Park Days with Other 4-6 Year Old Children?

We just moved here from Florida and my 4.5 year old son is having a very hard time. He misses his friends and his school even more than I could have imagined. He needs friends here fast! We go to parks and he immediately meets up with boys his age and play like crazy. But then they leave! Anyone else have children the same age and want to meet sometime at a park? His best friend back home was a girl in our neighborhood and we would go to parks together all the time. Thanks!

you might want to try joining a mom's club. those typically find playgroups based on the age of your child although one of our groups recently stopped meeting regularly with preschool schedules. the oldest of our kids is 4.5 years. http://www.momsclubspringfieldva.org/

there are the local rec centers that offer classes by age.

i met a really good friend who just approached me at a park with my son one afternoon. they were looking at houses in the neighborhood. she was not even with her son at the time.

best of luck.

Hi Maryann! That's a hard situation to be in - we moved here when my girls were 2 and 4, so I've been there! I joined a group called Mothers and More. My girls are both in elementary school now, so I just do social things in the evenings with the moms, but there are playgroups and parties, etc. during the day for moms and kids. I actually met most of my good friends at my daughter's preschool. Lucky for me, the kids she was attracted to had really cool moms! I also met a few friends in the park - I just had to suck it up and ask them if they'd like to meet again (since our kids got along so well). Felt sort of like dating, but I've never been sorry that I've asked another mom for her phone number :)

Hi

Which area are you living in? Does your son go to school at all? You could try joining a moms group and getting hooked up with a weekly playgroup that way , you can then start to meet people and anyone that you get along with well you can then arrange other playdates.

Check out www.momsclub.org - it's a moms group that is based on zip code, so the members are in your local area! My chapter is great! Some of my favorite friends are from Mom's Club.

Good Luck!

Try MOMS Club. I joined 7 years ago and I've loved it. We take the kids to parks, take turns hosting playdates and even have "Moms' Night Out." You can find your local chapter by e-mailing them with your city and state at the link on this website http://www.momsclub.org/join.html
Good luck! You'll soon be settled in to the NOVA experience. Welcome to the area!

If you can swing it, you might put him in daycare a few days a week. Even just a half day program might be nice.
