Parent Participation Preschool at Theodore Judah

I'm struggling to find information online about parent participation preschools in the Midtown/East Sac area. I've heard of a good one run at Theodore Judah Elementary, but couldn't find any definitive details about it on the Sacramento City School District website. There I found information about subsidized preschool options (headstart and state run schools), but those seem to have income caps that I don't qualify for. Can any one speak to the cost, hours, ages accepted and if there is an income limitation on this particular school? Are there any other parent participation schools in my area? Thanks!

What can I do next?

Hi...this is a great program and the teacher, Miss Anita is wonderful. I attended the 2 year old program last year and was planning to attend the 3 & 4 year old program, but just recently had a baby, and was sadly unable to make it work for me. The reason you are not finding it is because it is actually run through the adult education center, McClaskey Center(as the parent is considered the student) That being said, you should know that this program requires a bit of commitment on the part of the parent--for the 2 year old program you must attend the Friday morning class and once a month night class (only for the parent) For the 3 & 4 year old program you are required to commit to working in the classroom once a week (at Theodore Judah it is an afternoon class---although there are other locations that offer a morning class) and a once a week night class for parents only. I wish I had the number to give you, but can't locate it. But I thought at least steering you in the right direction was a start. Good luck.

My sister goes to that program, they just added a Thursday group I think it's $60 for the semester. Call the school and they can refer to who you need to talk to. Another option nearby is Fremont Church on Carlson.

Hi N.!

I do not have specifics on that school but my son attended Roseville Community Preschool for two years. There are so many wonderful aspects to it. The committment is what you need to gear up for, time, some money (food, snacks, we also did parent snacks) and the enrichment found in community is well worth it if it fits with your family.

You will find other supportive parents. I would ask the school is there are any parents who are available by phone, coffee or email to give you an inside lay of the land.

We had many families come from Land Park, etc to our school, even Davis and Auburn. For me, I like local and close but I may have travelled if that is what my son needed.

On a flip side, we could not do coop this year due to my husband's travel and our schedule. My daughter is in a developmental affordable preschool. (less than the coop for us) 3 days a week and It follows most of the principals of the our old coop and I can come when I want..but it works for us not to cook, clean and committ to monthly meetings.

I am glad we have done both.

Best of luck

The Theodore Judah program is now at Caleb Greenwood. The link above shows all of the schools this particular "parent education" preschool are located and the phone number to ask questions/enroll.
