I would suggest trying to see a chiropractor. I have been seeing one for about two years now and it has made a huge difference in how I feel.
I am looking for advice on pain relief outside the spectrum of modern medicine. Holistic or acupuncture etc. I am still having residual pain in my back and pelvic area from my 2nd C-section 4 months ago. They recently discoved a 1/2inch fibroid in my uterus but was told its shouldnt be causing the discomfort I am in. I am on Percocet and other various medications for the pain, but do not want to take anymore.

I know several people he has help gradually reduce their dependence on pain meds and even eliminate it in many situations. Tell them K. F. of All Computer Works referred you. My number is ###-###-####
I have had residual pain from c-section for 4 years and have found the a combination of various treatments to promote healing process were needed. Massage, chiropractic, swimming, whirlpool, vitamins and fresh foods. I found that percoset made me very tearful and depressed. When switched to ultram my mood and head was clearer, but it's not for everyone. I am also starting a special antioxidant juice from the amazon called Mona Vie (ckeck out the website). Many people swear by it's healing properties. Good luck, keep me posted and share what is working for you!
Do you have endometriosis?
I would highly recommend Dr. Sharon Hodgson- Acupuncture & Holistic Health Center- ###-###-#### She is absolutely wonderful. I also live in New Tampa and went to her Temple Terrace office on Fowler when I was trying to get pregnant, and then throughout my pregnancy. Tell her I sent you!

Dear A.,
I too suffer with residual pain in my low back and pelvis which I attributed to a very long labor with a malpositioned baby, then c-section. I go for monthly massage treatment that utilize pressure point techniques and assisted stretching. I have also used acupuncture in the past for a neck problem. It was super! The acupuncture Dr. I saw was in the USF area. His name is Dr. Yangchong Ou. It is pronounced Dr. "O". Look up www.naturamedicine.com. I am a nurse and I do recommend you get a second opinion But try something natural first. There are herbs you can take that reduce inflammation. There are exercises you can do to strengthen you muscles gently. You have now been "cut" twice. I also can imagine that you pick up your children a lot. I think mothers of young children do extremely physical work. Also PRAYER! I am a Christian too and I don't know how people do it without Jesus.
Sincerely,K.
I have had acupunture done on my lower back when I was always in alot of pain. After four sessions I haven't hade pain since, so for me it really worked. Between that and a very good massage therapist, you can fix most anything.
A kinesiologist may be able to pinpoint and treat the source of pain. Check out http://www.icakusa.com/directory/index.mgi for a listing of providers in the Tampa area. For accupuncture I would reccomend Nick LaCarruba, who has good success and alot of experience with a variety of "female" issues. His email is: ____@____.com <____@____.com>

I am sorry you have such discomfort, C-Sections are tough to recover from and why its important for all moms to know that its a surgery to avoid. Some of my first thoughts would be to investigate to make sure there is not a secondary infection in your uterus that someone is missing and to get a second opinion about the fibroid. Basically when you take a holistic approach you are trying to discover what is causing the pain and cure it...not cover it up with a treatment like drugs. If there is no infection present and your pain stems from nerve/muscle damage then a chiropractor would likely be the first type of therapy to try. You may also want to find a chiropractor versed in epidural damage (ie constant pain in your back, another reason women should explore unmedicated birth; would you rather be in pain for a day or for the rest of your life?) Additionally a massage therapist would compliment chiropratic care...you may also want to explore CranioSacral therapy (many chiropractors are versed in this as well) You may even research your area for holistic doctors to help with the fibroid issues. There are diets which may reduce your fibroids..hang in there and I hope you find the cause and cure of your pain. S. www.fcdoulas.org
Hi A.,
Reading your plea, it makes me a bit sad, because as a Doula, I see many C-sections happen without medical necessity and leave women recovering with great difficulty. Please try to look for homeopathy first, to help your body get back to a basic constitution. Arnica is a wonderful basic homopathic remedy for swelling and bruising helping you heal from the inside. Maybe a very gentle stretching class to help release the back discomfort would help too. I teach mommy & me postnatal yoga which helps women alot, so go online to thinkholistic.com or yogadirectory.com to see if you can find a postnatal group in your area. Drugs are never good for you or the body so any alternatives would be better in my opinion.
I healed a lung tumor last year with chinese herbs and acupuncture/homopathy so I believe in the body's ability to heal without Drugs.
Best to you,

I would recommend Christy Giallourakis, Accupunture Physician. She is excellent, she assisted in my home birth. After delivery I began to hemmorhage and she stoped the bleeding quickly with one needle. She has helped me with TMJ pain, tendonitis and postpardum "adjustment". I'm sure she could help you with your pain. She is located in Tarpon Springs, 435 East Tarpon Ave. ###-###-####. I don't know if that is far for you but she is worth the drive. Good luck.
Good Morning A.,
I am sorry to know about that, I can imaging how are you feeling, your age and kids age are similar to yours, I don't have any medical advice, but I have the best medication for you.
Trust in your God, asking for sanation, to cure you fibroid and ask him that in the name of Jesus. He knows you have 2 little angels who needs you ready to go all the time, full of energy and a clean and relax mind for them. Trust me A. belive in him with all you heart and you'll see big changes in your life, I wish you all the best of the world, please let me know about any progress, what your doctor said about it, Can you have remove that ? or are you thinking to have more babies?. Anyway my mom had a similar issue.
Have you thought about going to a good Chiropractor? I have had back and neck pain before from an auto accident and received alot of help from going to one, and from message therapy. I would recommend both for you.
Good luck!
K.
A., have you ever looked into chiropractic? I not only used to work for a chiropractic office but have two kids of my own and had a very similar situation after my first child. So many people go day after day in pain and on meds with no releif. If you don't know much about chiropractic, at least go in for a consultation and have them perform routine xrays. Then they can see if your back is even ever so slightly out due to carrying your child. Even if it is barely out of place it can cause extreme pain extending as far as your toes at times (as was my situation). I'm telling you, you would be surprised. I don't know any chiropractors in your area, but if you call McKenney Chiropractic @ ###-###-####, Dr. McKenney could probably refer you to a doctor in your area. Hope this helps and hope you check it out. You WILL get the releif you are looking for!
Consult a chiropractor. I have back pain as well. I have had two children and two c-sections. My lower back and neck hurt. it was from bending and lifting. As a mom, your body never really gets a break. I have an adjustment every four weeks. If I'm in pain or not. I've found that the regular adjustments keeps me from having the pain and headaches that I was was getting.
There is a place called Nature's Essentials, on Erlich Rd, that does elctrodermal screening and uses homeopathy and essential oils to treat...including Rainddrop Tech. for massage. They can also refer you to an acupuncturist.

Have you had therapy? I am a physical therapist and am just wondering if you have had therapy. I have seen sacroiliac displacements during and following pregnancy. It can stick around a long time if not corrected, not to mention I am sure you are lifting a lot with a 22 month old and 4 month old. If you would like more information let me know. The key is finding a therapist with SI expereince.
Good luck

I would suggest a good chiropractor...
Have they done an MRI on your lower back? You might have some disc problems... especially from lifting your babies.
I'd say you were wise to not want to take the Percocet anymore - if possible. Those can dull your senses and you need to be "sharp" all the time to take care of children.
Hi, A.--
With apologies for suggesting something I haven't actually tried...I've been very intrigued with the Atlas Orthogonal technique of chiropractic treatment. From what I've read, there are only a few hundred specialists in the country who are trained in it. Maybe someone else out there has experience with it and can help both of us? There are very good explanations of it at www.uppercervical.org and www.drracine.com. I went for an initial consultation with a Dr. Rauch in Palm Harbor ###-###-####). To his credit, he turned me down when I told him I might be moving out of the area in a few weeks; he didn't want me to cough up the money for the initial xrays and treatments if I wouldn't be around for the 5-8 weeks when his patients usually see a breakthrough (unlike many chiropractors, he does NOT plan on having you there every week for the rest of your life!). I was amazed, looking through the thick scrapbook full of handwritten testimonials in the waiting room. If Palm Harbor (Pinellas County) is out of your way, you might try calling Dr. Rauch's office anyway; they gave me several recommendations for doctors near my new home and could probably come up with some for you, as well as who takes what insurance plans. Again, I haven't had a chance to try this myself, but this doctor clearly demonstrated that he wasn't just out to fill up a back-cracking factory. (The office was also very child-friendly, by the way).
accupuncture works for some people. you can also try a metaphyscial healor ( someone who heals with their hands ) I know someone named cathy whom does this , her info is

she cal also refer you to many other alternative healors. you can pick which one fits best with you. She does fabulous work. and ive seen what she does works with many.
I hope you have gotten a second opinion. Have they done an ultra sound, CT Scan, or MRI? Have they looked for a sponge someone may have left inside you during the C Section? If you live near a university with an OB program, run, not walk to them for a second opinion. The sponge deal happens more often than we would like to think. Good luck
Hi A.
I am a staunch advocate of Acupuncture
My mother has had many problems with lower back pain and she has found acupuncture to releive a lot of the pain.
My sister also takes acupuncture treatments for 2 herniated discs in her neck.
Good luck

I also had a C-Section for my son and had immediate pain in my hips once I got home... I went back to my doctor and also went to a orthopedic doctor and was told nothing was wrong.. They gave me a steriod pill to take for a week which helped a bit and also an anti-inflammatory pill.. In the end I tried to walk alot and strech and finally after 6 months or so it started to get better.. Dont know if this is anything comparable to you but maybe can help.. I am terrified though when I do have my next child if it is going to be the same situation or even worse..
I would recommend trying chiropractics first. Your lower back maybe out of line and that can cause unbelievable pain. The meds mask the pain but don't fix the prob. Having babies is rough on our spines.
I know of a great chiropractor in Riverview if you want his number and addy.
Wow A., you got some good advice. A lot of moms seem to suffer from similar ailments including myself. I had a vaginal birth and immediately after I began to experience severe pain in my sacrum and hip flexors. I couldn't bend to lift my 6# child out of her bed or even stand up out of my own bed. I started w/ accupuncture to deal w/ the immediate pain and then went to a chiropractor. Along with diligent yoga style stretching I began to feel some relief but still couldn't stand up straight because my upper back muscles were in constant spasm from over compensation. While at the chiropractor I read an article about myofacial manipulation or Rolfing. I knew this is what I needed. My chiropractor recommended someone who practices KMI(Kinesis Myofacial Manipulation) based on the Rolfing model. It is expensive and painful but worth every bit. The method seeks to release poor body alignment and re-train the muscles and myofascia(connective tissue which covers muscle tissue) to maintain proper body alignment and consequently relieve chronic pain. Check out www.bodyworkbydallas.com for more info. You can also see my testimonial signed E.G. I'm a new person! All the best to you. E.
I would try Chiropractic treatment for pain and well being. It is natural and there are no drugs. I had severe pain after the birth of my son 6 months ago and went to a chiropractor for relief. I did traction and the pain went away after 3 treatments. Center for Physicians Care in Winter Park, FL, is where I went for help, ###-###-####. Good luck!
I would advise for you to find a Neuromuscular Therapist that specializes in prenatal and postpartum massage. You don't just want a massage therapist...you need someone who is skilled in therapeutic massage AND who knows about how to best assist during the postpartum time. Most likely, it will be someone who specializes in prenatal and postpartum therapy. When you look for someone, make sure that they have had some specialty training in therapeutic massage (Neuromuscular therapy) AND training in Pregnancy/Postpartum massage. You can look through organizations that train them. Try Bodywork for the childbearing Year (you can google it). They will give you a referral for someone who they have certified in your area.
This is my specialty area, and I personally have had a lot of success working with mothers exactly like you, with residual hip and back pain.
Acupuncture may be helpful too, but I usually don't refer someone out for this type of pain (as I would with other cases).
Let me know if you have any other questions! Good luck to you!
I would recommend that you get a procedure called coloscopy I think that's what it's called. They go in through the belly button and look at the uterous area for any fibroids/scaring. I have been in this kind of pain for years. I have been told that removing my ovaries/at least one would alleviate the pain. I get excruciating pain that comes literally unexpectedly and am always taking tylenol for the pain which relieves it temporarily. As soon as I go into water/bath tub or pool or beach the pain begins or before period/after or during intercourse. Continue to seek medical help. I really don't believe acupuncture is the answer. It has to do with the blood vessels. See Dr. Charles in Wellington I believe.
Good Luck - S.
