I'm using them for the opposite reason - to track when I'm actually ovulating. Thus far, I've been unsuccessful and have been through 2 kits. I'd love to know what the recommendations are on certain brands/kinds over others.
Thanks!
Has anyone used ovulation tests for birth control? I'm still breastfeeding and think the pill decreased my supply so I stopped taking it and want to track my ovulation. How do the test/kits work? Are there some better than others? Please share your experiences with using them.

Agree with the others that I wouldn't use for BC. Look online or at 1/2 price books for "Taking Charge of your Fertility". This will show you how to track via your body and temp. to tell when you're ovulating.
Good Luck!

It is the greatest book about charting your ovulation. Due to allergies and sensitivities I have to artificial birth control this is what I have used.If done right you can easily avoid pregnancy.
my husband and i use natural family planning, but it's a little challenging when your cycle isn't back and you're up all night nursing an infant. so we would often use ovulation tests as just a guesstimate. i would usually use them a day or so in advance and the day of and if there is any ovulation line at all (darker or not) we would just avoid. i haven't noticed that any brand is better and you must realize that it is obviously not even close to 100% effective. good luck!
No, the ovulation tests are meant to help you get pregnant, not the other way around. I've used the ovulation tests for getting pregnant...I believe you get 5 tests in one kit. If I were you, I would sit down with your OB and have him/her help you determine when you should avoid relations. I wouldn't rely on a store bought test for this purpose. Track your periods on a calendar and discuss it with your doctor.
I wouldn't use them as BC. One, because they are pricey (even the dollar store ones cost you almost $30 a month), and two, because there are better ways to track your cycle. I would trust condoms only over an ovulation kit, but that's just me.
When my husband and I were beginning to think about having a baby, we thought to use the ovulation tests just as you're thinking, so we tried it out. Our daughter is now four months old - we're obviously very happy they were inaccurate, but I definitely would not use them for birth control!
Using your body signs will be much more effective and much cheaper! I vote learning them either by internet research or taking charge of your fertility.
