I know there are professional organizers and there are professional behavioral therapists. Is there an organizer out there that can train a 15 year old with Asperger's to organize his work and backpack?

The school can't help, because he won't let them. He's 15 and has attitude about needing help.

I was thinking if I could hire someone to help him at home, set up a system and practice it over a certain period of time that I could tie it to some good things, like computer games or laser tag trips etc.

It's just impossible for me to help him, he doesn't want my help. But he does go see a counsellor, so he isn't opposed to getting professional help.

Not sure what to do but I'm sick of the mess of papers, sick of the piles in his room and just don't know what to do.

What can I do next?

NACD (National Association of Child Developement, they have a website) can help with this. They are awesome and can help in many areas. I have a friend with two on the autism spectrum and they are doing great with this program. There are also some private schools that give courses in this during the summer..another friend had her son in one last summer. Best of luck to you.

Hi Traci:

I'm new to the area, and have a 13 y.o. daughter w/ Asperger's who attends Highland Middle School in Saginaw/Eagle Mtn. School District. This district has "parent support trainers" who can come into the home and work with you and your child on anything you'd like. You may want to check your son's district to see if they have anything similar. I just talked to the one in our district, and she is coming to the home to help my daughter and I work on "morning stress" and general school anxiety. Let me know if I can be of any help. Good Luck! T.

Dr. McAlpine in Plano is working with my son on these skills, and he loves her. He also has a stinky attitude, but she is so understanding and fun, and she truly likes him - so he's working hard with her now.

I don't know where you live, but if it's in Dallas County and you are receiving MetroCare services, they will pay for Dr. M - Her business is called Brain Training and it's near Ohio and Park.

She is also home schooling her 15- or 16-year-old autistic son.

Have you tried checking at the Kinkeade School of Autism in Irving? Maybe they'd be able to put you in touch with someone. It would be worth a try if they could at least point you in the right direction.

My son is 6 and was diagnosed with asperger's last year. During this year at school alot of people have left and we are basicly starting from scratch. We had an ARD meeting at the school and they have it up so a member of the Autism team will come into our home once or twice a week to help him get orginized and help us to deal with him. It's all set up thru the school so there is no cost. You might want to talk to his principal and see if that works for you.
