Ok moms, what milk do you guys use? If organic, what benefits have you seen? I am spending a lot more on organic, about 5 bucks more and want to know if it even makes a difference in health?

Please help!

Organic!

We rarely use milk (cooking, cereal, etc) and NEVER drink it. It lasts forever. One small carton will last us almost a full month, when if we still haven't finished it, I'll still toss it and buy a new one.

Growth hormones and toxic buildup of antibiotics that are used in the mass market cruelty pits - AKA milking farms - are absent in organic milk, as well as the state of relief when you realize you are not contributing to the cruelty and suffering these poor cows live, shortened by the horrible conditions in which they are born, 'live', milked to death, then cruelly killed... just so we can drink another animal's breastmilk!

My husband and I drink the regular stuff. The organic tastes so much better....but it's expensive and goes bad quick.

Organic for sure! especially for the baby......too many hormones in the other one....but it is certainly expensive. We are not freaks about organic eating but follow some basic rules - milk, poulty and fruits/veggies with thin skins that absorb the bad stuff like berries, tomoatoes etc but don;t worry about bananas, potatoes or other thick skinned produce.
Edit - a very helpful mommy just corrected me - potatoes are one of the dirty dozen.....so they are on my organic list now.....I better check the dirty dozen list to make sure I am not missing anything else. Thanks A.C.

We buy organic. I have always been worried about the growth hormones and antibiotics in the milk, and also, organic cows have to be treated much better (the federal government requires more pasture time, etc. for organic milk cows) so we have always bought organic. I really like Stoneyfield Farms because the milk is comparatively cheap, the taste is good, and I can buy it at our local Walmart.

As a little added note, my FIL is totally not into organic stuff, or really environmental stuff of any kind, but he is a chemist, and as part of an experiment, he once tested regular milk vs. organic milk in his lab for a variety of chemicals and hormones. I will go ahead and disclose that I have not seen the results, nor have I read the study he published, but what I can tell you that he and his wife immediately switched to organic, instructed all their sons to do the same, and refuse to drink the regular stuff, ever. Since he had previously been vocal about the "waste of money" that organic produce was, I think the results must have been pretty significant to change that stubborn guy's mind so completely. Of course, just because he found a lot more of the hormones and chemicals than he expected doesn't mean that regular milk is giving you cancer - I don't know if any long-term studies have been done on the effects of such things.

Non-organic milk is FILLED with extra growth hormones, antibiotics, and pesticides (from what the cows eat), and the way they treat their cows is awful. Organic milk is free from these things... The tests they have done in people that have ingested regular milk have shown great evidence in those growth hormones and antibiotics going straight into our bodies.

Back in the old days, "regular" milk didn't give all their cows those toxic things. (So I don't wanna hear the argument "I had regular milk and I'm fine") In fact, it is funny that "regular" milk is called so. Organic milk is technically "regular" milk and "regular" milk is acquired in a VERY non-regular way: mistreating cows and pumping them with hormones and antibiotics.

My thing is, if I can choose to NOT have my children ingest all that extra stuff I don't want in their bodies, then I will chose organic. Most things we buy are organic... but , honestly I think choosing organic milk out of it all, is the most important. We still have some non-organic things... but I'm just happy that I am GREATLY reducing the amounts of pesticides, GMO's, growth hormones, antibiotics( which actually has contributed to infections that are immune to anti-biotics, I believe the body is SO used to them), and other toxins that are not regulated.

My FAV, though? Organic whole goat's milk! YUM!!! it is also easier on the tummy!

Hello,
We buy Stremick's Heritage Foods organic milk. We've tried just about every organic milk available in our area and by far Stremick's tastes the best. In fact, delicious! So creamy, even the non-fat! Stremick's milk is free from synthetic pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers. And their cows are never given any growth hormones or antibiotics. Some studies have shown that growth hormones can bring about premature puberty in children.

I was curious one day and looked up their sustainable practices on a website that rates such from dairy farmers and they were rated very, very well. I really liked that. Anyway, we pay about $5/gallon.

Here's some food for thought, in terms of benefits of organic (from their site):

(Oh, and when I just googled them I found out that Walmart is now selling this milk)

I buy organic for my boys and me. My husband is vegan, so he drinks soy. There is a strong presence of cancer on both sides of our families and that is why I do it. My father died of pancreatic cancer when he was 46 and there is a clear link between that cancer and exposure to pesticides (he was a farmer) so it is organic whenever possible for all of us.

We have our milk delivered. To be honest I am not sure if it is organic or not, though I think it is. I do know that it is hormone free etc. I have not noticed any difference in health really, but I was more worried about the long term effects. Some "experts" say that all the hormones in our dairy products is one of the reason our kids are going through puberty so much sooner. Don't really know if it is true or not, but thats what I read.

I'm a dairy farmer (Well, my dad is and I grew up/still live on the farm).

In my opinion, milk is milk.

"My" farm isn't considered "organic". However, whenever we give the cows any medicine or anything like that we still have to wait until it is out of their systems before we can sell their milk. They keep all the bad stuff out of the milk, "organic" or not.

I buy organic milk because Whole milk is just the best. It is sooooo yummy! I started buying it when pregnant with my first, and since then, I can't 'stand other milk.

I tried drinking non-organic, hormone free vitamin D milk...and I just couldn't keep doing it. The money I was saving wasn't worth the difference in taste to me.

I buy regular milk but make sure that it's free of growth hormones. The only things I buy organic are the dirty dozen (top 12 fruits/veggies high in pesticides).

I was on an organic kick for a while with milk because I was afraid of the affects of RBST (the hormone some dairy farmers give their cows to increase milk production).

Then I found out that most dairy farmers have stopped using it. And most of those who don't actually put a disclaimer on their carton stating that there is not RBST in their milk. So save your money and look for the disclaimer (all of Walmart's milk has the disclaimer on it). Or, if you don't see the disclaimer, call your local dairy and just ask. Here in Missouri, Central Dairy does not use it.

We personally don't drink cows milk, i make or buy almond milk or hemp milk as it's actually not healthy for humans to consume cow milk. But if I was to buy cows milk, I'd always go organic to keep unnecessary chemicals out of my kids diets.
