Have any of you experienced a decrease in sex drive when you were taking oral bc pills? If so, did you stop them, and did your sex drive increase or return to 'normal?'

What can I do next?

Yes!!! When I was on them, my sex drive took a huge nose dive. I didn't fully realize it until I got off it to conceive my second child and I felt like myself again. I really thought I just wasn't in the mood much bc of being tired taking care of my baby. But now with two babies, a lot more fatigue and a lot more work, I am way more into things. I never want to take it again!!!;) Good luck:)

Very good question. I think as we get more advanced with these drugs, we aquire more side effects. I have been using BCP since I was 16. So its been nearly 20 years! Lately, these new types - I am on Seasonique/Seasonal - are giving me problems. I have heard everything from "dryness" to yeast infection to breakthrough bleeding and spotting. All these things are listed on the informational packet. I think I have a healthy sexual desire and sex life but these "side effects" are definately hinderances. Keep in touch with your doctor is all I can say:)

Yep - it is very common to have a decreased sex drive while on oral BC. And yes, it will return to "normal" when you are off. Talk to your doc. Maybe you can switch to something will less/more progesterone or whatever the issue is. I hate taking BC for many reasons, this being one of them.

Also, I remember having to just "try" to be interested more, and it really did work. It's like forcing yourself to smile, eventually you really are in a better mood!

Best wishes.

Yes, and yes. I've been on a lot of different types of birth control pills trying to correct this problem, and can't get around it. It takes about 1-2 months for my sex drive to return to normal after I go off the Pill. After my second baby is born, I plan to try an IUD to see if that solves the problem, because my marriage deserves more than what I give it on the Pill.

Oh my gosh, sex drive was horrible while on them. Didn't realize it until I finally got tired of lots of problems I felt I was having with them and decided to go off them to let my body go back to it's "natural state". Well, let me tell you within a couple of months it was "on". That was almost 3 yrs ago and it's been a whole new sex life for us.
