Hi C., I went to ww schools when I was younger. I had my son go to Stevenson and John Glenn and we lived in Garden City. Used my Moms address since she still lived in the house I grew up in. I also live in Wayne now and I dont hear alot of good things about Franklin and Wayne High. My Grandson goes to Heritage Academy Charter school in Taylor and they are FANTASTIC. Stay on the waiting list and pray you get her in the charter school. Also a really great pre school is Noahs Ark. The teachers at the elementary school by me try to get those kids in there class. Good Luck with the charter school. You definitely cant beat them. They are like a private school and really spend time with the kids and have smaller class rooms.

My 3 older kids went to both Franklin and WMHS. Like any school, it depends on the teachers they get, and their own desire to learn. My youngest currently goes to Marshal Middle School, previously at Kettering Elementary. She was diagnosed in 3rd grade with ADD and a learning disability in math, and both schools have been wonderful in trying to help her. There are going to be situations in whatever school you choose with other children acting out, but as long as your daughter has a good foundation of right and wrong, and wants to learn, that combined with a good teacher, wwcd is not a bad district. When the schools stress parent involvement, they know what they're talking about, it makes a world of difference to the students and the teachers to know that the parents are supporting them. Basically, what I'm trying to get at is if you choose to put your daughter in a charter school, and thats the right thing for you, then go for it, but if she does have to go to Vandenburg, be involved as much as you can, get to know her teachers and help in the classroom if thats possible. As far as Franklin and WMHS go, my children did well in both. They were all involved with extra curricular activities, which also helps at the higher levels, and graduated with honors. A good education really does start at home. Good luck with your decision. I wish you and your daughter the very best whatever you decide. :)

I used to be a substitute teacher for the WWCSD, and I subbed for middle & elementary schools. After twice of working at Franklin I vowed never to go back again. Don't get me wrong, I know kids act differently when they have a sub vs. their regular teacher, but the kids there were downright rude to me (swearing at me, ignoring me, 2 girls even broke out in a fight in front of me!) and when I asked another teacher for help she said, that's just how these kids are! My family is currently looking to buy a house in Westland and I can tell you we will not be living in Franklin's district. I had similar problems at Wayne Memorial, but not as bad. For the most part, I enjoyed John Glenn H.S. and I also liked Stevenson Middle school.

C.,

I was also wary of WWCSD before my oldest started there. I have two children at P.D. Graham in Westland and have loved it. I have found it to be a great community for my kids to learn and grow. However, I've been told by friends who work in the district that it's one of the best in WWCSD. I am also a parapro and have worked in two of the elementary schools. I can honestly say that each school has it's own personality and what might appeal to one family may not to another. I'd highly suggest talking to ANYONE you know that has children there and check out greatschools.com. Lastly, remember that any school is only as good as it's involved participants, so wherever you end up, make sure you do what you can to make it the school you want your children to go to. Good luck with your decision!

I've got 3 kids in WWCSD. We attended Walker Winter Elementary, and I believe it and PD Graham are the top in the district. I've been very happy there. I have one there, one at Stevensen Middle and one just starting at John Glenn. My only issue is the lack of classes for the advanced student. They are the children left behind by the current federal education policy. If thats a concern, compare the charters. If I personally had to do it again, I'd have stayed in Canton, moved to Ann Arbor or Livonia. My kids are all high IQ underachievers and get little attention. Especially in Middle.
