One Year Old Throwing up in New Carseat

Can you try him in the Britax, rear facing? It is safer to be rear facing anyway. My 22 month old is still rear facing in a convertible seat, though she is getting big for it.

I don't think it's the carseat. It's motion sickness. He might not be ready to face front just yet.
My daughter got terribly car sick even well after she was a baby. We realized the things that worked better for her, including dramamine on any long car rides.
For now, just let him ride however it won't make him sick. You'll have to get trickier as he gets older if it doesn't subside. My daughter is 24 and still gets car sick if she rides in the back of the car on windy roads. She's fine if she's driving or in the front seat, but in the back....forget it.
My son never got car sick in his life so I don't know what causes it exactly.
Keep your little one in the seat he's happy in for now.

It's probably carsickness, poor little guy. This happens when there's a visual disconnect between messages from the eye and the inner ear. He's probably become accustomed to the rear-facing seat, and his nervous system is thrown off by the switch in direction. Google "car sick toddler" or "car sick baby" for lots of tips.

I was carsick a lot as a kid if I couldn't watch out the front window. Motion from the side would get me, especially if I was looking at stuff inside the car. I still need to watch the road ahead when someone else is driving, or I'll get sick.

i agree with the other moms that its car sickness. if your adamate about having him face forward ask his dr about infant dramamine. or like others suggested just keep him rear facing for as long as possible.

The marathon does go rear facing so you should probably keep him rear facing till he out grows the weight. I do believe it it the motion sickness. I know when I rode rearfacing in my dad's station wagon (on of those ones where the back seat faced the rear) and I switched, I would get sick and often. Some people don't like to keep their babies RF becasue of their legs are long, but kids can fold their legs. My sons favorite thing to do is to kick the seat and it bounces his seat a tiny bit. He loves it. I also think that if we did get in accident, I'd prefer a broken leg vs. a broken neck. Just food for thought.

He doesn't get upset or start screaming right? My son does this occassionally but only if he starts screaming because he doesn't want to be in his seat anymore.
Possibly take to the doctor..or just call...

Turn him back to rear facing! The AAP, NHTSA, and Safekids all recommends children remain rear facing until at least 2yrs and 30lbs, and Britax is a huge advocate of extended rear facing, their seats will rear face to 35lbs! Please read the manual and do some research online about extended rear facing, and google Joels Journey for more information.

He's getting motion sick, turn the car seat rear facing, install it properly (if you need help please visit www.safekids.org for an event and CPST in your area) and he will be 500 times safer in the car and he likely won't be car sick any more either.

My 3 year old gets car sick a lot (just like his mom when she was young). Make sure that the seat is in the middle so he can look out the front window rather than the side one. Put up sun blockers on the side windows so he can't look out. Make sure he doesn't have a book or small toy in his lap that he is focusing on. Keep the car fairly cool. Have plenty of towel and a bucket on hand for long drives.

Well Sweetie, you just have a child that will get carsick. My daughter was fine in the rear facing carseats too, the minute we turned to face forward she would throwup. Not a lot you can do. You can ask your pediatrician what are some motion sickness remedies that they recommend. It's just how it is! Good luck!

Mostly I think it is motion sickness. Are you by chance driving with the windows open? The fumes can come back in the vehicle and make them sick and they will throw up then. There is over the counter medication for the motion sickness, but I don't have a name for you.

It sounds like he's getting motion sick while facing forward. Experts now advise keeping toddlers rear facing. Can the marathon be rear facing? There are many brands who do now make rear facing seats for toddlers.

Have you checked to be sure the straps are not too tight and that he is able to sit upright, i.e. not slumping down and thus compressing his stomach?

Because rear facing is safer, I would be tempted to buy a seat that can be kept rear facing if the Britax marathon can't be.

Hi! Just wondering if you ever figured out the car seat problem. I switched my daughter into the britax boulevard last month from her peg preggo infant carrier. She throws up almost every other car ride. She has never had this problem before and when I switch her back to the peg preggo, or if she is in our other car with the maxi cozy she has no problem. I have tried all different levels of the recline options and nothing has worked, it has been about a month now. Just wondering if you child continued to get sick from the carseat. I put her back in the infant carrier for now and we are going to go buy a different car seat.

Agree with the others. I have the britax marathon and installed it rear-facing for as long as practical. It does get squishy before they are two-years old, but both my kids tolerated it almost until then.

try putting turning back to rear facing. A believe a marathon can be used rear facing its much safer for your baby plus he seems to be getting car seat forward facing.
