I have a 4 month old and she has been so healthy, but the last week she has only had one BIG BM diaper every two days, its usually stinky, a little runny, and dark brown, yellow-green. I do Nurse and supplement with formula once a day..... nothing has changed in my diet, has anyone had this experience before?

What can I do next?

i think that it is the formula. and that is ok!! her body is getting used to the new digestion . anyway you might want to help her out a little by giving her about 2-4 ounces of water with a quarter size amount of kayro syrup (light or dark). make sure the water you use is either boiled or bottled. good luck and god bless.

My little guy did the same thing. He only had a BM every 3-4 days, even as long as 7 days and then he'd have a big blowout! Now that he's on cereal, he's more regular and daily. Hope this helps.

I am a mother to a 10 month old, but he went through the same thing at that age and my Ped. assured me it was fine. At 4 months we also started him on pureed foods, some of which don't have any fiber or have very little. The important thing is to keep him hydrated and it sounds like he's getting plenty of fluids. The way you know that is that his stinky diapers aren't pellets.

Hi A.,
Well it is not unusual for BF babies to go 3 days between BM's. In fact I could tell you when each of my BF babies were due for their Bm's, because they were so regular like clockwork every 3 days.

The stinky part makes me think it is the formula. Formula can be really hard on little ones systems. Do yo also notice that her spit up is very stinky also? I noticed with my niece & nephew who were both BF & FF had very stinky Bm's & spit up. BF babies bm's go from that bright yellow to a lighter brown as they get older.

I personally would recommend trying to omit the formula from her diet & see if her Bm's return to normal. Take care, G
