Ok well I am new at the pill thing. I had the Depo shot before. Anyways my Dr. told me to take my Sunday pill when I got home after the appt. with her then take my Monday pill tonight. With rush hour I didnt get home till about 6:00pm. So I decided to bypass that idea. Is it bad if I start my first dose on a Tuesday? Or since the case says "Sunday" for first pill is it a MUST that I start on a Sunday? Also I started my last period on the 21st (last week)....and I dont plan on taking it till tomorrow or if I HAVE to will wait till next Sunday. Will I be ok for sex around Christmas and New Years? I do not know much about this pill stuff so I am not for sure. And reading the site just makes me confused. FYI I am taking Ortho Tri Cyclen. I am planning on taking my Monday (Sunday) pill ____@____.com any responses or suggestions would be great by then. TY

So What Happened?

I did double up the days I was missing. No bad side effects for those that were conderned about that. Considering the DR was basically telling me to double up I assumed it would be ok being as how an actual DR was telling me to. I am fine. TY everyone for input. :o)

I have been on the pill for a long time and what I would do is just double up. Take Sunday & Monday pill today, and then Tuesday & Wednesday pill tomorrow and you will be fine. I always just take mine when I go to bed, which is not the same time everyday. I would give the pill at least a week to work, but I like to be a little conservative.

If you start on Monday it would be no different than starting on Sunday, you just have to move the dial to start on Monday to help you keep the day straight. I personally would not double up, but just start a day off.

Just start now. If you want to follow the days on the package, you can double up now, or double up next week to get on track, or just always be a Tuesday starter. I think the idea behind the Sunday start is so you can have period-free weekends. So starting on a different day just means your period will be a couple days later than if you start on a Sunday, and it may last through the weekend.
I follwed the package because it helped me remember to take them. The reason the pill isn't as effective as other methods of birth control is mainly because of human error :-). So do what you need to do to remember them and you should be fine!

I have been on the pill of and on for several years and this time round I start my pills on Tuesday and it has had no effect on me. My Dr says to wait to be on the pill at least for 1 month straight before you can have unprotected sex (to be on the same side) so in that note you should be fine for Christmas or New Years.

Thanks and Good Luck!

Read the directions that came with your pills - different ones have different ways to handle this. The most common, though, is to double up on your pills for 2 days. So today take Sunday and Monday's, and tomorrow take Tuesday and Wednesday's. Or you could just start with today's pill only. As it's only the first 2 days of the pack, I wouldn't be too concerned about it. you should always use a backup method for about 10-14 days anytime you mess with your birth control - whether it's switching brands or missing a day. You usually don't ovulate until about the second week of your cycle, anyway, so the odds are in your favor that you are fine.

Although the directions tell you of dire consequences if you don't take it at the same time everyday, I wouldn't worry too much about that. It's more important to just get it in your body than it is they are taken exactly 24 hours apart.

It will take you awhile to get used to having to take a pill everyday, so my advice on that is to either keep them in your purse, so they are always with you, or keep them by your toothbrush so you take them every night (or morning).

Good luck!

Go ahead and start now, take the one for the day you are actually on and continue through the rest of the month. Your period will probably come on the Tuesday after your last Saturday pill. You will be more than fine to depend on the pill after your first period with the birth control. Sometimes if I forgot a day, I would double up and never had any problems. I did the pill for 11 years but have my tubes tied now. I actually miss it because my PMS wasn't as bad and my periods were lighter and more predictable.

Ok, I'm the nerd who actually reads the package inserts! It actually answers your question in there as far as when you should/can start it and how to track it. Some pills are different, so I would read there to be sure. But, quickly, yes, you can start it later.
