Ok Time to Ask Momma a Question.....

I have a 1 year 5 month old Dalmatian. I have recently run out of the Frontline I have been using since the get-go. However, we really need to cut back on our budget and it appears that "Advantage II" is cheaper than the frontline. From what I can tell it appears to do the same thing killing all life cycles of the flea, lasting up to a month, etc. The only difference I can tell is the price??? The reviews seem to be good so I just wondered if anyone else had an opinion of one or the other. Don't suggest the one's that are in the store to use because I am against those due to an article I read from a vet discouraging people NOT to use them....not to say I agree with every single article written from a vet but he made some valid points that I tend to agree with. I think I found it on 1-800-petmed website if you would like to check out the same article. Anyways I just wanted opinions between the two frontline and Advantage II??? Which one???

What can I do next?

They are all good. Advantage and Frontline are comparable, but the newer patents is what jacks up the price. We have used Advantage and had no complaints.

I agree with you about OTC flea preventive. It's expensive, ineffective, and actually harmful to pets!

I didn't like Advantage. I don't remember if I used the regular or Advantage ll. But I felt like my it made my dogs stink and the greasy spots on them seemed to last for days.
I use Frontline Plus.(not regular frontline) It is effective for 3 months against fleas! (only 1 month for ticks) So if you only use it every 3 months, might make it cheaper.

I have cats and have found that the frontline is really the best. Costco has it for a really great price - cheaper than mailorder and obviously, quicker.

Frontline and Advantage are both good products. I'm not sure if Advantage II does ticks if you have an issue with them at all. Double check, I know it used to be only fleas and Frontline Plus did both. I think Advantage recommends also using a separate tick preventive such as a collar. So I guess if you have tick concerns I would go with the Frontline Plus, since it would take Advantage II plus something else and then the cost is probably the same. You can probably ask your vet or look up maps of where different tick diseases are if any are in your area.

Good job for not using the over the counter cheap ones too! I have seen way too many pets react from those in varying degrees and when you call the companies they usually don't seem concerned and just fax over the reaction protocol. Garlic can have toxicity and it is like some things that may effect one pet more than others. It has the same thing that is toxic that is in onions (onions are much worse though and contain more thiosulphate that is what causes the reaction. Garlic probably has to be consumed in higher doses for toxicity.

I was always a Frontline devotee because Advantage didn't work on our dogs initially. THEN they got fleas with Frontline! We tried Advantage again, and it has worked well now for 2 years. It is cheaper, so that's a bonus. Give it a try. Our vet was amazed it didn't work initially, but evidently it's like me with allergy meds; they work for several years -then I build up a resistance and I have to use something different.

Frontline stopped working for our pets. I remember taking my Shiba to the vet cause he was losing fur. The vet said he was having a reaction to flea bites. I was floored, I had just put Frontline on them the week before, and here he pulled three of them off. He also told me that he had been seeing a lot of cases where the frontline wasn't working. I just bought the Advantage II and put it on them last week. The little guy is still kinda itching, but I haven't seen any fleas.
