We have a 99 VW Passat with about 160K miles on it. We've taken pretty good care of it, but it needs some work to keep it going. I think the shocks need help cause they're squeaking...

I'm always afraid of getting hosed because I'm female and don't know cars. My husband doesn't know them either, but you know what I mean?

I have personally used Tilden's located at Clifford/Las Vegas Trail in White Settlement for the last few years for all kinds of repairs. They have never tried to sell me something that I ddin't need nor have they talked down to me like I had no clue. I highly recommend them. They do have a few other locations but this is the one that I have personal knowledge of. C.
We have stopped trying to bring our cars to shops and started bringing them to the dealership.... their hourly rates may be slightly higher but at least no one has tried to scam us since we've been doing it. They guarantee their work and parts.... though as opposed to using repair shops, we have never had to go back to get it redone/corrected.
The dealerships have a vested interest in preserving their reputation since their main business is SELLING cars - and no one wants to buy a car from a place that has a bad BBB rating...
Sometimes you get what you pay for.

We used to go to Tilden's, but the ownership changed and so did the service. Now, we go to Dealer Alternative and have had good experiences there.
Square D specializes in VW's. They are off of Cooper in Arlington. I don't know the exact address, but it is aprox 1223 Colorado Lane. I've only used them twice, but they did not talk down to me and the work I had done seemed to be a fair price.
