SOMEWHERE between my car in the driveway and the house, I've lost my son's blankie. I'm so bummed out. We have a back up blankie (and honestly, it's not like he REALLY needs to it sleep or anything), but my MIL's best friend had made it for him and even though it's literally loved to pieces, I was planning on keeping it forever :( I'm so sad it's missing!!

Have you ever lost something that meant the world to you? Does it still make you sad to think about it?

What can I do next?

I left my blankie in a hotel when I was 6, and by the time my parents called to ask it was lost forever. It still makes me a little sad to think of it, but my parents were probably relieved that it was gone!

LOL!!! Yea!! So glad you found it. That happened to us once.

It was our daughters toy dog from the movie BOLT. She got it for her first birthday and it was her favorite buddy of all time. They were inseparable. One day we couldn't find him. My husband freaked!! He thought perhaps they lost it at a store or in the parking lot during one of their outings. He retraced his steps a few times but couldn't find it. It was gone. Both of us were so sad that it was lost forever. Even though our daughter didn't seem too upset we wanted to keep the dog forever because it was her first favorite toy.

About a week later I was brushing my teeth when my daughter comes in and starts playing with the bottom draw. (It's her drawer so it's the only one that's not locked) I look down as she was closing it and get a quick glimse of a dirty white tail. I leaped over to the drawer, open it up, and there (in all his dirty, raggedy glory) was Bolt!! She had him the whole time! I yelled for my husband and we both did the happy dance while my daughter laughed at us. Needly to say... Bolt has not left the house since. Still her favorite, but he is no longer an outside toy. :)

Our daughter lost her favorite hat while we were in NYC. It was a one of a kind Bumble bee hat. We were all so disappointed.

Its life. It was just a thing and who knows, maybe it will magically show up..

I can't find a sweathsirt that I love. It was big and heavy and has my maiden name sewn across it. I found it at Old Navy and bought one for each of my brothers and myself. I haven't seen it in months. I'm afraid my husband must've worn it to work and forgot it. I am sad but not giving up hope. It may just turn up in the least expected place one of these days.

You are so lucky you found it! I'm happy for you because to this day( it's been 3 years) I'm still sad to think of the blanket we lost at a soccer game and someone took it and never turned it in. Both my husband and I were sick about it because it was our first born daughters blanket that his aunt ( who had since died) made for her. It never turned up. Now we don't bring special blankets away from home. So since you got lucky I'd recommend a blanket that's not special for the car and going places. May you never have to go through that again! :)

oh, i'm so glad you found it! i'm relieved to say that both my boys still have their woobies (pilla-pilla for my 24 year old, blankie for the 20 year old). i'm not sure how THEY'D feel about losing them at this point, but I'D be devastated. and i'm kinda tickled that they're not too macho to keep their old friends on their beds still.
i lost my favorite, though. my beloved stuffed donkey, dapple gray, was the casualty of a bad relationship in my early 20s. i stuffed my cats and what clothes i could fit into my VW superbeetle and fled, hoping to go back later and get the rest of my stuff but it was not to be. dapple and a few other childhood loves were lost forever. i hope he at least donated them, but probably not.
less wrenching but more immediate is the SECOND i-pod to go AWOL. i'm not sure whether my house gremlins are particularly into classic rock, or if i'm just not yet mature enough to be entrusted with expensive toys.
