B.B.
I have 2 friends who shave and I can see razor bumps and one of them gets a 5 o'clock shadow, I definately will stick with plucking.
Ok, I was watching RHONJ and Caroline M. stated that she shaves her face to exfoliate (sp) it. I have never heard of this but it really sparked my interest. Have you ever or know someone who does this? My hubby said dont do it bc hair will grow back thicker and darker. I told him thats a myth. Is this something that gets done when you get a facial? Let me know I am very curious. TIA
OK, just asking, like I said just curious about it.
Thanks oneand done...I found the same info. I was thinking that I already do the upper lip with the lotion removal stuff and that has never caused me to get a mustash beyond the blond fuzz that is already there. thanks for the back up, lol.

i shave my upper lip and i wish i never started. because it did grow back darker. its courser too. i would reccamend plucking or waxing over the shaving method.

DO NOT SHAVE YOUR FACE!!!! yes. people do it to exfoliate their skin but there are better ways to exfoliate!!!
I would NOT NOT NOT do this. there was an episode of this on Dr. Oz and even he said don't do it.
Hi K.,
Instead of a knee-jerk reaction, since I had never heard of this, I took the time to look into it further. Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Taylor were two notorious face-shavers! Asian women swear by this practice.
It has been said that men age better--maybe because of the daily shave? Hmmm....maybe.
I do know this. When I googled it I got more positives than negatives. And you're right about the hair growing back thicker and darker: total myth.
Here are a few websites you might want to check out:

The reasons given by Dr Oz were these:
1. It does exfoliate your skin, but it can be very irritating.
2. You are stripping away the outer layer of your skin cells which is not good for water balance or for protection against the sun.
3. If you cut your skin, it could be even microscopic cuts that you don’t see, you are prone to infections.
Soooo...while they are valid cautions, it seems that extreme safety, sun protection, etc might counter-balance those points, right?
Interesting Q!
I have never heard of this. Weird. I would tend to agree with Cheryl that there has to be a better way. Also, if you shave the hair won't necessarily be thicker, but it could be darker. The hair on your face has been there a while and it may have been lightened by the sunlight. There is a possibility that new hair will grow in very dark, b/c that's it's orginal color and it hasn't seen the light of day yet!
I have been shaving my upper lip for many many years. Mine has NOT become darker or thicker. It looks exactly the same. I dont need to do it every day, maybe only 2-3 times a week. There is no stubble. It MAY appear to be coarser because of the blunt ends that were shaved, instead of growing out pointed through the follicle. But I don't notice, & I have dark hair too. trust me, if it looked like stubble, my husband would have NO problem telling me! ;D I know that wasn't what your question was originally about, but the issue came up in some of the answers :)
It's not a myth! I had a hair stylist who did this, but she had to keep doing it just like a man because it did come back thicker and darker! If you're willing to make the daily commitment, it is great for exfoliation. I just don't want anything else I have to shave!
no I do not do this and never have and I have no known anyone who does this.
As we grow older our hormones change our hair texture and color. Shaving or not shaving has NOTHING to do with it. Every one of my aunts had facial hair and some shaved it off and some didn't. Their hair never changed differently. It is a myth that it changes, you often see what you think/or have been told to expect happen.
I have a unibrow and have shaved between them and under them since I was in 7th grade, they are actually thinner now.
I just did it yesterday in the shower. The older I get there's more fuzz but it's not dark or thicker. It seems like I need less make-up afterwards. :)
I've done threading and that REALLY hurts. I'll do the eyebrows but the upper lip tends to break-out the next day. :(
