OB GYN For Natural Birth at Baylor Dallas/Plano Medical Center

I second the referral of Dr. Elizabeth Stevenson of Park Lane Ob/Gyn Associates (http://www.parklaneobgyn.com) who delivers at Baylor Dallas.

She was great all through my pregnancy and fully supported my decision to use hypnobirthing. She never once pressured me during my labor, even though I eventually stalled out at 8cm, and could not progress further. She gave me her medical opinions, but let the decisions be mine (with no pressure or judgement) in how long to continue trying for a vaginal birth. I highly recommend and trust her. Good luck!

Anyone at Norwood's practice (Women's Health Alliance) will be supportive of natural birth and a doula. Norwood himself is great.

I will just warn you that if you have any pregnancy problems, that practice won't take you seriously. I followed their stupid don't worry about "a blood clot smaller than a plum" guideline and it turned out I was in premature labor, my water broke, and I ended up losing both of my twins. Thank goodness I already had my wonderful daughter, but I don't know what a lady of advanced maternal age (39 when I lost my babies) with a PPROM in the prior pregnancy had to do to be taken seriously when I had problems with my twin pregnancy. A major blood clot (the size of a mango) at 13 weeks was "a fluke," only then they blamed that bleeding when I lost the twins at 20 weeks, saying that the earlier bleeding must have irritated the amniotic sac and caused it to rupture and send me into premature labor. The spotting right before I lost my twins wasn't severe enough for them to worry about either when I called to ask about it.

It's been 3 and a half years, and I'm still pretty mad, if you can't tell. Honestly, I don't know what I was supposed to do or say to get their attention, and I trusted those doctors since they got me through my first pregnancy and got me a healthy daughter. I should not have trusted them. If you are young and healthy and have no history of pregnancy problems (or are young enough that you can have more babies after a loss, which is not the case for me--that was my very last shot), then I think you will like WHA. If you may have any problems, I suggest you find another practice.

I will say that Baylor Dallas is a great place to have a baby (and even to lose two dead ones, if you have to have dead babies anywhere--they send lots and lots of chaplains by to visit you). Now that they've remodeled it, I'm sure it's an even nicer facility.

I just had my 2nd daughter at Baylor again. Had a good experience again. I always knew I was going to have her at Baylor, but this time my labor came on so fast I had her naturally. I personally would have loved labor to take a little longer (woke up and less than 2 hours later she was born!), but Baylor was good. My Dr. didn't get there in time and the Dr. on call was great and handled herself with immense composure... all the while I was freaking out. My Dr. is Dr. Brothers and I've been happy with her and Crochet. Definitely recommend the practice. The Baylor Mommy and Me meetings are great too. Highly suggest it for new mommies.

That's so awesome that you are planning for a natural birth. I am a Bradley instructor and if you still need prenatal classes I'd love to be able to help! I'm not sure If you've heard of the Bradley Method but it completely prepares you and your husband on how to birth naturally. Althought it should come naturally it's something that we sometimes need practice and preperation for in advance! Any way I'm in your area so if you need classes still let me know! :) A.

I knew I could get a midwife at Baylor Dallas, but that is too far of a drive for us.

Dr Brothers delivered my son at big Baylor. She delivered her babies naturally without meds and will definately work with you to do the same. I was induced however due to gestational diabetes that had gone out of whack. Dr Crochet, her partner, is great and really nice. They used to be in practice with Dr Graham. She's also very very pro natural childbirth and very brass tacks about things. I think all three of these Drs have probably the lowest c-s rates in the area.

Loved my OB Gyn at Big Baylor--Dr. Norwood. He is with Women's Health Alliance. My only complaint, if any, would be that the appts take awhile b/c he spends so much time w/ all of his patients.

If you're wanting a natural birth why not use a birthing center and a midwife? The Birth and Women's Center is walking distance from Baylor Dallas and always has an OB on call when a birthing mother comes in. That way you get the serene, supportive environment you do want and the swift backup should anything go wrong (very rare with uncomplicated pregnancies). You will have the same midwife and assistant during your entire labor and birth, most insurance covers it and it's 60-70% cheaper than a hospital birth! Go to www.birthcenter.net to get info on them. I had both my kiddos there and wouldn't trade the experience for anything!
But, if you're set on giving birth in an actual hospital setting, then I would call the Birth And Women's Center for their recommendations for an OB at Baylor. They have two that they work directly with, but I forget their names. So, they are aware and supportive of your birth preferences.
