Daiya is a brand of cheese that's really good melts real even just like regular cheese. You can find it at Whole Foods. Be careful there are some non dairy cheese that do contain casein which is dairy.
Hi Moms,
I have a 3 yo with an egg and cows' milk allergy. I am wondering if anyone can recommend any cheeses/where to buy them that are made with goat or sheeps' milk. We do use the soft goat cheese but I'd love like a sandwich cheese for grilled cheese, mac and cheese lasagna, etc. Is this possible? I miss cooking with cheese!! I was not impressed with soy cheese and neither were my kids. Besides, they make everything out of over-processed soy these days so I'd like to add healthy variety to her diet as opposed to just adding more processed foods.
THANK YOU!!

romano and manchego are sheep's milk cheeses. got them at costco and whole foods. be careful, though, as my son reacted to a teeny tiny sliver of it, even though the allergist said it would be fine... and sheep's milk is less close to cow's milk than goat's milk. closest we've been to using the epis. good luck!
Go to a Whole Foods, they have all sorts of different cheeses in their cheese department. My son has a casein allergy so we can't do any bovine derived dairy so we use a cheese (at Whole Foods but some super markets are starting to carry it) called Daiya. We buy the pre-shredded and I use it in all sorts of casseroles, grilled cheese, top baked potatoes with it etc... It's also non-soy. It's made form plant oils so it melts really well.
You've got some good responses already . I was going to suggest Whole Foods. One note of caution though - most kids who are allergic to cow's milk are also allergic to goat's milk (I don't know about sheep's milk). So be careful before you jump into a lot of these cheeses, if you haven't already tested them out to be sure they are safe for your child.
I found this place that has a wide variety of cheeses.
You can select cheese by goat, sheep and cow, and they even have one made from buffalo milk.
Some of these are a bit pricey, but you might find a few new things to try.

Here's a website for the varieties of goatcheese and where you can buy hem. Look for places near you, too.
I googled "goat cheese lasagna" and got lots of hits. Start googling, Mama!
I personally would love a grilled cheese with goat gouda. I love gouda!
You can find some goat cheese at Whole Foods (usually soft cheese).
I buy a wonderful mild cheddar goat cheese at our local coop in Madison, WI. Call your local cooperatives and see what they carry. Many times, if you own a share in the coop, they can help you by getting some cheeses in.
I buy a wonderful tasting sheep cheese at COSTCO; they actually have two types of sheep cheese.
I hear some local farmers also sell goat cheese at our farmer's market, but I just haven't had a chance lately to get down there to check them out.
We also have a cow milk/casein allergy so are always on the lookout for good goat and sheep cheese. We also have a soy intolerance and can't eat anything made with soy. I hear there are some vegan cheeses made out of rice; I've tried but wasn't real impressed.
Percorino is sheep's milk cheese. Has a taste and texture similar to other italian semi hard cheeses like Parm and provolone. My grocery store sells it in the specialty dept. Yum!
:)
Look for an organic market near you. My nephew cannot eat cow’s milk cheese or some of the others. My sister gets rice cheese for him and he seems to like it. He has sensory issues and is extremely picky.
