Hi Ladies,

so i'm back with another question.

normal or not?? exclusively breastfeeding my little one a little over 8 months now & still no period.
everyonce in a while I get a cramping sensation like I am going to start having a period but nada.
with my first I exclusively breastfeed but had a period by now.

also.. lately I have been going in waves with how much milk I am producing..
for a couple day I will be engorged all day no matter how much she feeds and then for a couple
days I will feel like I am hardly producing anything..
could this mean that my body is getting ready to stop producing?

thanks : )

What can I do next?

Well, I didn't have a period until I stop breastfeeding, so I see nothing wrong with that. Milk can be because of how much liquid you drink or what sort of liquids you drink. I noticed that the days I didn't drink coffee I would feel like I wasn't making any milk. the days I had a cup in the morning would be normal, the days I had 2 cups, engorged...

I didn't get my period until my son was 15 months old. He started eating solids at 6 months...
I wouldn't worry about it.
As to the milk production, I don't know. Sounds to me like sometimes little one is pulling more out and your production ramps up, then pulls less and it drops (but not before you are engorged).
Good luck!

It probably means you are ovulating even tho you arent menstruating.
You shouldnt stop producing milk if your nursing a regular schedule.
Could you be pregnant? That happened to me while nursing.

Your body won't ever just stop making milk on its own if you have been nursing successfully. Don't worry about your periods, they will return! I breastfed for 18 months and only a couple of months after stopping did they return. You can still ovulate though, so don't forget that---this is how many women get a surprise baby!!!

I breastfeed for 13 months and didn't have a period until a month after I stopped. It was glorious. :) OB said some women get it back sooner than others. My guess would be that since you don't have it yet, you probably won't until you stop breastfeeding. Sit back and enjoy.

Your body will continue to produce milk as long as your baby is drinking it. I worried too, for awhile. But everyone was always right: relax. Your body knows what it is doing. But, do keep drinking plenty of water, of course.

Your milk supply come s7 goes if your feeding on demand the lenght of time & what your drinking if it is alot your milk supply will boost your boobs know when to produce how much & when your not drinking enough it'll slow down.I didn't have my period for months after my 3rd she was 15 months when I stopped bfing her but was eating solids by 6 months. My body went in waves of feeling like Iw as going to start but then it passes this lasted from months till I started to get my periods back to normal after bfing

your milk supply goes in waves based on how much you're drinking, eating, stress, sleep... supply & demand...

You're w/in 'normal' up to 6m after completely weaned
I bf my 1st son for almost 3y, never had a period, then got pg w/my 2nd child, he's now 8m, still no p because I'm nursing... there is a wide range of 'normal.' Exercise, stress... have a big affect on it too.

I didn't have a period at all when I was breastfeeding so I would not worry about that at all. I also think it is pretty normal to have days when you are producing more and less milk. Breastfeeding pretty much runs by "supply & demand". I would not think your body is getting ready to stop doing anything. You could breastfeed for years if you really wanted to.

As long as your baby is growing and thriving, your milk supply is just fine. As she adjusts her needs your supply will change, and that will account for your varied feelings of fullness.
People vary widely on when their period comes back. Mine always reappeared right away, which I could have done without.
Just keep going and enjoy this wonderful time with your little one.

I was back to a period after each of my two within 2 months even with breastfeeding exclusively so the lack of a period for that reason is beyond me. I have had horrendous hormonal fluctuations in the last year for other reasons and have talked to my OB/GYN who wants to go the pill route. At first I objected but it is worth you talking to your OB/GYN about. As for the fluctuations I found that introducing foods or shortening feeding times for whatever reason seemed to cause fluctuations, I wouldn't necessarily think you are no longer going to lactate soon unless you eliminate certain feedings altogether
