Did you try going to the local WIC or madicaid office? Usually if you have no insurance for your pregnancy will be covered through medicaid. Call your local office set up an apt. and they will tell you if you qualify.
Hi all :) My insurance won't cover my surprise pregnancy so I am looking in to options. Has anyone used the Maternity Card or a program like it? Any other suggestions?
Thanks.
Nevermind...see my "So what happened".
Actually, many insurances don't unless you pay for the coverage...I have individual coverage and had no plans to have a second baby so soon after the first so I didn't pay for the rider. Husband makes too much for WIC/Hoosier Healthwise/Medicade.
Turns out his insurance at work will accept me even though I'm already preggers and we don't have to wait for open enrollment like we thought.

That is insane! Most insurances do, what kind do you have??? That is totally nuts! Anyways, when I lived in KY and OH and later TX, I had to use the med card. YOu are not treated differently. Just find a good doctor cause you do have a choice. Good lucK!

Check with your local Department of Family and Children. They offer pregnancy medical insurance help for low income and non-insurable families. If not there try your local health department and they might be able to point you in the right direction.
I tried the maternity card but not worth it. It is better to talk to you hospital. I went to St francis and they have a discount program. Most insurances expect a women to be on insurance a year also before she can use her maternity. ITS ALWAYS SOMETHING. Most hospitals also finance. So I'd call the hospital that you have decided to deliver at and call the financial dept and talk to someone there. Thats what I did. Usually they ask for $1000 before you deliver and they decide what to do after that. Thats all if you cant get medicad though or you dont want it.
I Think I ended up paying half or less, than the bills they sent me and I fianced what was left.
I hope this helps G.

well doesn't that just add to the stress of this unexpected pregnancy! I'm not sure if you know, but the midwifery center on 38th street is awesome...much cheaper than a traditional hospital stay...and if nothing else, they can deliver at methodist. But, I can't remember who your OB is, but sometimes they will continue to see you, or be a back up if needed. Plus..natural deliveries are so much cheaper! Ahhh, yet another reason to not get an epidural...then medication to speed up labor..then c/s when you don't "progress"...oh I'll stop :) I can't really help with insurance hoopla..but I will support and lift you up and help you through whatever else I can! I know you have friends and family...but we (Mendy and I) love you and Eli and will be there to be a sounding board! Rest up today:)

Can I ask what insurance you have and what reason they gave you as to why they cannot cover your pregnancy? I have never heard of this happening. Right now I don't know any options for you as far as insurance but i am going to look into it. Just doesn't seem right....
