Hi Trish
BEFORE she has the doctors check her and being as she doesn't have insurance, ask her to read "Take charge of your fertility" this way she can track her cycles and conclude IF she is in fact ovulating... doesn't matter what age, not all women do... and even when and if you have a period, that is not indicative of a woman having ovulated. It 's worth a read and she can check it out at the library if she doesn't want to purchase it.
As for people perhaps suggesting to wait on kids if she doesn't have health insurance. I don't think that is a slam in as much as it might be a good idea to really think about this. With no insurance, medical bills can stack up. I don't think it's a matter of you or your friend not being a good parent, it's more probably people saying, do you think it's really feasible at this time? that's all.
but even so. the book is a good read and whether your friend has a baby or not, it's a good way to really understand the body. I highly recommend it for all women.
good luck!!
