So What Happened?

Update: so, after insisting on having more lab work done thanks to all of your encouragement, it turns out I do have a thyroid problem after all. I have now been diagnosed with Graves' hyperthyroid and am taking medication which hopefully will get my body back in balance. Thank you all again.

After I delivered my child at age 36 I also had terrible night sweats. I went to the doctor and they put me on estrogen since they wanted to see if that fixed the problem. It did. After a few days my night sweats went away and I discovered I was peri-menopausal. This is not too early to begin peri-menopausal symptoms. I have been on estrogen replacement therapy ever since. Basically, I was having severe hot flashes which would wake me up and cause me to not be able to go back to sleep. I only noticed them at night. I am still peri-menopausal at 48. It can begin long before menopause. Somehow having a baby changed my hormonal balance.

I would suggest getting your thyroid checked.

CALL YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY!!!!!

Is this accompanied by weight loss, fatigue, nausea?

I didn't have night sweats or nausea, but I thought the weight loss (being able to get into pre-pregnancy clothes 2.5 weeks after having my daughter) and fatigue were normal for a mom 7 weeks postpartum.

Only, the small, lymph node I found in my collarbone was not normal. My OB/GYN didn't think it was much to worry about. My intuition told me otherwise, and my Family Practitioner got me set up for a breast ultrasound and biopsy of the node.

I didn't have breast cancer, but I did have Hodgkins lymphoma (cancer of the lymph nodes). Nothing else indicated anything was wrong. No one thought I really had a problem.

My diagnosis came 2 days before my son's second birthday (my daugter was 10 weeks old).
I've had clean scans for the past year following 5 months of chemo.

In your case it could be NOTHING but your body still reacting to the hormones. But, it could also be something much more serious.

Please call your doctor and have them thoroughly check you out!
Please also let us know what you learn.

Have your thyroid checked. I had TERRIBLE night sweats for years until my hypothyroidism was diagnosed. Sweating so profusely that I would SOAK through my clothing, pillows and sheets and would have to change clothing in the middle of the night.

As soon as I took thyroid replacement, the sweating stopped.

After I had my son, I had some night sweats, but I didn't have them every night, and it didn't last more than a few months for me. I'm in my late 40's now and have night sweats on occasion because I am pre-menopausal and my estrogen levels are in flux. If I were you, I'd see my doctor about it. Something is going on with your hormone levels.

Hi N. F,

Sometimes the body is out of balance. We also have toxins in our bodies and this is a way for them to get out of the body.

Make sure they get good clean alkaline water to help them through the process during the day.

I can share a few more tips if you want more info.

Have a great day.

First of all, congratulations on the twins!
Interesting you mention this, no one ever seems to talk about it. I was sweating at night sooo much after the birth of my son! It has slowed down, thank goodness, but still happens quite frequently. I would say it was almost nightly for several months. Now, it's maybe once a week. One night this week, I got up and changed my shirt and then was drenched again hours later! My son is 18 months and I stopped nursing about 3 months ago. I'm not sure why this is happening because it never happened before.
I sort of related it to my intersticial cystitis or painful bladder syndrome(which causes me to be in pain.) Now, I'm thinking it's hormonal. I am only 29 though. ???
I hope it slows down for you and me both.

After all four of my kids I had night sweats off and on throughout the time I was nursing (between 10 and 14 months). I think it is pretty normal unless you have other symptoms that concern you.
