My baby girl was just born 4 days ago. We've been working on breastfeeding, and yesterday when she was nursing, I noticed that she has a bottom tooth already, and another 2 coming! How is this possible?!? Has anyone heard of a newborn having teeth already? It seems so abnormal - is it???
Nothing to worry about, every child is different. My mother tells me that I was born with 2 teeth, yet my daughter didn't get any until almost 9 months.
Yep its normal, but not very common. Sorry this seems kind of shocking, but I guess she's just early. :)
Speak with your pediatrician and contact La Leche League. My sister Sarah was born with 2 bottom teeth in the early 80's and at the time they were called 'Milkteeth' and the Dr. said my mother had too much calcium while pregnant. The Dr recommended pulling them, my mom resisted at first but after a week she had to stop nursing and then even the bottles were giving Sarah sores on the bottom of her tongue. They removed them when she was 3 weeks old. I think they might have been the last to come in when she started teething at the normal age but they are fine and healthy.
With new research and technology, I'm not even sure if this is still a common medical practice. Good Luck and I hope this helps.

Just talk to the pediatrician about it.

Like the other posters said, it's not common, but it's been known to happen and doesn't mean anything is wrong. From what I understand, sometimes these teeth fall out before the real baby teeth come in and sometimes they are the real baby teeth. You could always ask your doctor about it.
With kids, nothing is abnormal! :) My first son got his teeth in very early (4 by 4 months) and my second a little later, but not much. When I asked my OB/GYN she told me it's completely normal and that some babies already have teeth when they are born.
That said, I nursed both my boys until they were 13 months old. It was a challenge at first with the biting, but they got the hang of it. I would just say "No biting" when they bit me, and stop nursing. With your little one being so young, maybe she won't bite, but if she does, maybe stop for a minute or two and then try again. Kids are fast learners, she'll get the hang of it quickly. Good luck!
Our first child had a couple teeth that would come and go!!! I could definitely FEEL when they were peeking out though....... People wouldn't believe me till they would see her with them one day and not the next! LOL. The doctor said it's fine. Uncommon but normal. They went away when she was about a month old and didn't come back till she was like 6 or 7 months.
I've never seen it, but have heard of babies being born with teeth. This O. is an over-achiever! :-) Congrats & Enjoy your little O.!
It happens. Doesn't mean anything really. Some kids cut their first tooth when they are 3-months like my son, others get their first when they are 12-months like my daughter. And then there are those few that start cutting their first tooth before they are born or just shortly afterward. The only thing I think you should be concerned about is how this will effect breastfeeding. Maybe contat Le Leche to see if they have any suggestions just in case . . .
I have heard of babies born with teeth...I think it is called milk teeth? Not unusual and nothing to worry about. Ask the doc about it. Congrats on your new sweetie!
It is rare but I have heard of babies being born with teeth.
My husband's family has had kids born with teeth in the past. They fall out quickly and two sets will still come in like normal (beginning at the average ages and everything). Good Luck!
I think i have. Atleast early teething within a couple mos. That's brutal,though, for breastfeeding. Especially just starting out. It hurts with no teeth at the beginning.
I've read about this -it's not that common, but it's not horribly rare either! Nothing is wrong -a few babies are just born with teeth!
My best friend in kindergarden was born with ALL of her teeth. It's not common, but it's not unheard of.
This was back before nipple shields... so her mom made her own by cutting a hole for he nipple out of a piece of chamois... and used it until the baby learned to nurse without biting.
I've heard of it happening, but never seen it myself.
My girlfriends son was born with several teeth. He was a large baby. Now at 17 he is 6' 4".
Call a pediatric dentist in your area-to have a look-they usually remove them-I worked for a pediatric dentist and we had quite a few newborns come in and have them removed-GOOD LUCK! L.
It's actually much more common than you'd think. There was a similar post a few weeks ago, and the number of babies born with teeth is surprisingly higher than you'd think. Approximately 1/2000 newborns are born with "natal" teeth. You may want to call your pediatrician just to let them know that they're there.
