I am planning to do the same with my next child.

I'm considering using cloth diapers with my 15 month old and would like some advice on how to get started from some moms who've had experience using them. What brand do you use, how much will I have to spend to get started, any cons other than having to do laundry more frequently?

I also started cloth diapering at 15 months. My daughter is now 25 months and still in the original diapers that I bought. We spent $200 on diapers, which considering we were spending over $100 a month on disposable (our daughter was allergic to all diapers so to prevent a rash we were buying organic and changing her every hour during the day, she was still getting horrible rashes!) we have saved a lot of money.
I bought 4, 1 day packs of Flip Diapers from Kellyscloset.com. I liked Kellys closet because it was the only place I found that you could mix and match the diaper cover colors instead of just getting two pinks or two blues in the pack which is what most places have. The one day pack is 2 covers and 6 inserts. The covers are one size so you just adjust the snaps to make it fit your child. We are just waiting for our second daughter to hit the 8 lb mark and then both kids will be wearing the same diapers. Major $$ savings!! I did buy newborn inserts for the baby though. Which was another $30.
If you plan on using cloth for the long haul (for any more kids that come along) I would highly reccomend a diaper sprayer. A friend bought one for us when we found out we were expecting #2 and it has been amazing! I love love love it!!!
I would find some cloth diapering fourms and check those out before ordering to see what kind of diaper will work best for you. I did not want to use pocket diapers (kind of grosses me out) and I didn't really want to use AIO because I use them all the time, even out and about, and didn't want to have to carry a lot of stuff around with me. I love with the Flip diapers I only have to bring a bag for the dirtys and bring the liners which don't take up any more room than disposables in the diaper bag.
I cloth-diapered two kids from birth. Here is a great site for reviews and some general overviews: http://www.diaperpin.com/home.asp. I purchased most of my diapers from this site, and they were terrific. http://www.nickisdiapers.com
Different diapers work better for each body type - my son and daughter had different covers which worked better for them. You'll probably have to do some sampling and experimenting.
I use the cloth diapers from greenmountaindiapers.com along with the Thirsties duo wraps. I also use hemp liners for overnight and occassionally homemade fleece liners - which are good for keeping any diaper cream off of the cloth and for keeping baby's skin dry (putting them in the dryer will take away their loft and effectiveness). I also use cotton liners during the day - to help with clean up and to extend the life of the diaper. I tie it all together with a Snappi, which although is not absolutely necessary, definitely cuts down on having to wash poo off of the covers. This way was easy and inexpensive.
