Hi everyone, im a new mommy to be i found out that i was pregnant
at 6 weeks and went to my ob for a chechup the first ob told me to wait a few weeks more to have an ultrasound done. And so i went back @ 10 weeks for my first prenatal checkup i had everything done all the blood tests and had both ultrasound and transvaginal ultrasound done. The doctor said that the baby looked too small to be 10 weeks and wanted me to go to another facility/hospital for a second look. I started to feel worried i was asking him if the baby is okay but he couldnt give me an answer he said until i get a second set of ultrasound at the other hospital. And so i went there in the afternoon and had another ultrasound and the transvaginal ultrasound. The radiologist Is a bit cranky and not in the mood for conversation. I couldnt see the monitor since i was lying down and it was facing her so i couldnt see what she was seeing. I asked her if there is something wrong with my baby but she was also ignoring me just like the doctor. I was growing more and more upset i have a lot of questions in me that no one seems to bother answering. Im so worried and frustrated i dont know whats going on.
Please help! Thank u

I can imagine your frustration and need to have immediate answers. I can also imagine that doctors don't want to rush to giving you an answer without reviewing the ultrasound films... and you certainly wouldn't want them to give you the wrong answer because they rushed to judgement. I would recommend you call your doctor's office, let them know your level of anxiety and ask them to provide you with information as soon as possible.
Keeping my fingers crossed that all is well for you and baby. Good luck.
My understanding is that they are a technition, not a dr, they can not discuss medical information with you. Frustrating I know but your dr. does not want to tell you anything that could upset you further then saying "I am not sure if there is anything wrong that is why we are checking." You have to allow them to do thier job(s) and chances are whatever it is is nothing they are looking for so many things b/c we are a bunch of worry warts and sometimes they need a few min non pressure to look over some things and to even get a second pair of eyes on it. Your doc will call when they know something either way.
Did they say if the baby had a heartbeat? If so you're probably in good shape. If not, perhaps you were wrong on your due date?
Hi,
I know how stressed you must feel but please don't worry. Your doctor is probably just trying to determine how far along you are and wants a second ultrasound to determine your due date. I had my second child 6 months ago. During my first ultrasound at 12 weeks, the tech and MD said the same thing. They thought he looked too small to be that far along. I had a normal pregnancy and delivered him at 39 weeks. Your little one is fine so try and relax. Congrats and enjoy your pregnancy!
Well try not to worry too much. I know hard to do. I know from experience that the ultrasound techs can't say much at all to you while they are looking at. I found this out the hard way. I know you are playing the what if game and the waiting is extremely difficult but try to keep calm. If there is something wrong, the wait shouldn't be too long. But I would keep on top of them. Stay strong and I'll keep you in my prayers and thoughts.
I went in for a f/u U/S with the tech and had a doc appt directly after. Other than giving me a picture of the baby she told me that the doc had to talk over the details with me. Everything was luckily fine for us but I think standard practice if something is being checked out, they leave it for the doc to discuss with you. Good luck!

First, if you do not like the bedside manner of your doctor and rad technichian, I'd start OB-hunting. You're so early in your pregnancy that it is really easy to switch (medically-speaking). If your insurance allows, switch now.
Second, are you very certain about the first day of your last menustral period? Sometimes ultrasounds can show a baby to be measuring smaller or larger than the LMP age suggests if an inaccurate date is given.

Dont worry... be patient. I'm sure they will let you know as soon as they know. Most of them are not allowed to answer your questions, that's why you have to schedule an appt with your doc and she is the one mandated to answer them.
Maybe they are just trying to figure the date of conception and delivery. Sounds like you probably werent as far along as you thought you were maybe?
Hi L. C,
I've read the responses and I'd just like to add a bit. "Growing a baby" is a natural function that takes place no matter how many ultra sounds and test you may have. After "growing" 3 of my own, my opinion is that we tend to put to much emphasis on the medical intervention of a totally natural process. It bothers me that doctors perform so many test and many are unreliable and cause needless worry. Prenatal care should be simple: Eat healthy, hydrate, exercise gently, rest well and RELAX. I know the first time is full of anxiety because you're dealing with the unknown but please remember nature does a wonderful job. I wish you well and hope you enjoy "growing" your little one!
the ultra sound tech's are not supposed to talk to you about what they see. however, i've had some that would tell me, this is your baby, here's what they call the baby's first cheerio, etc, but that's it
congrats!
Hello, This is your baby and your body. The doctor needs to explain what is going on. Insist that he/she does this. There could be nothing wrong with your child, but you have the right to know this.
Good luck with your precious baby.

They said the same thing to me when I got my first sets of ultrasounds. I was supposed to be at 5 weeks and 1 day and i was estimating at 4 weeks and 1 day. So they did a second set, where I was still estimating a week behind. Finally, after my first OB visit, they did a third one (it was cool to get to see everything that many times), when they finally were able to get within three days of the estimated date they originally had. I'm sure, as long as there is a heartbeat, that there is nothing to worry about and they are just trying to determine the accurate due date and stuff. Normal due dates are based on a standard cycle, so if our cycle is even a few days off then there estimations are all thrown off. I had one ultrasound tech literally say to me in a VERY rude tone of voice "You obviously don't know when you actually started your LMP, otherwise our dates wouldn't be so off." Turned out, he was just a little short for his gestational age and had a growth spurt lol
The lab techs are technically not supposed to tell you much of anything, but this one sounds like he/she could have been nicer. As for your doctor...I think you need to find a new one. Doesn't sound like this one is addressing your concerns and needs.
Good luck! You might just have your dates wrong...
