New Fridge - Need Opinions

So, we are buying a new fridge. It will have the freezer on the bottom. Can't decide if we should get French doors or a single door for the top part. Pros? Cons? I know...pretty insignificant question, but I don't want to regret whatever I choose. :)

What can I do next?

Having had both, I prefer the freezer on top because the kids can get their own food from the fridge if the freezer is on top.
They need very little from the freezer but all the food they need access to is in the fridge.
So I now opt for the top freezer if you have kids.

I have the French doors, too. Love, love, love it! Easy access and tons of space.

When we replaced appliances, we went with black because I didn't care for the stainless steel trend. We affectionately call our fridge "Darth Vader". It's awesome.

We have a kenmore with French doors on the top which is great... BUT the freezer on the bottom isn't working out so well. I'm not sure if its a design flaw with kenmore... But the tracks get ice on them, then the drawers (theres2) don't close all the way which compounds the problem because it causes more ice build up... Ill never buy another kenmore appliance that's for sure. We seriously taped the top drawer shut because pieces broke of the track from ice build up

We got the French door fridge a few years ago, and LOVE it. I love how I can see and reach almost anything. I am only 5 foot tall, but I can still reach everything on the top shelf, but not all the way to the back. I love the ice maker on the bottom drawer. The only bad part is, at party time or holiday time, I wish my fridge was bigger. But I wished that when I had the bigger older one too. I have a Kitchenaid, and I just wanted to let you know the only problem we have had, is the waterline was backing up with calcium, and it was leaking on the floor. This happened twice. They fixed it under warranty both times, but it was scary because we have wood floors and what if that would have happened if we weren't home at the time. They would have been totally ruined.

I like the French doors because you have the option of leaving it half closed. I know it's not a huge difference but you can keep half of the fridge a bit cooler.

Also, get one that has a solid drawer in the bottom and not wire drawers. Stuff is always falling through the mesh/holes in the wire ones.

I have a single door with a freezer on the bottom, but given the choice I would have french doors. I love having the freezer on the bottom!

We have French doors but the freezer is on one side and the fridge is on the other (and I personally don't really like it, because I can never fit things in the freezer). Your situation will be a little bit different with the freezer exclusively on the bottom. :)

One thing I do want to suggest is that you look at the space/opening where your fridge will be located. If the opening is tight, you are going to want to make sure that the fridge extends a few inches past any cabinets or counters so that you can fully open up both sides of the fridge without it hitting the cabinets/counters beside it. I am specifically talking about the SIDE of the doors (the approx. 2 inch side of the door that moves with the hinges of the door). I know of several people who have had custom cabinets built with a specific refrigerator's dimensions in mind only to have to get a smaller refrigerator for not thinking of this extra space that will be needed when the door is open. Not sure if I'm making sense here....

Either way, good luck!

I have the French doors and will never buy any other type of fridge. It just makes it so much easier to use and you don't let out all the cold air opening one side. I when with white since I have had stainless in the past and hated them (constant cleaning, not worth it).

My mother in-law just bought a new fridge and hates it with a passion. It is the freezer on the bottom type and the French doors on the top style. The side holder compartments are awkwardly spaced and she can't adjust them and she also doesn't like how the shelves are laid out in the fridge part.
Just make sure that the side compartments work for what you would put in there-like a tall ketchup bottle, dressings etc...

I never would have thought of that-I would just be looking at the nice new shiny fridge-lol but now that she hates her it makes me look at it in a whole new way :)

She also does not like the freezer on the bottom because of the fact that you can't access the bottom without moving everything around. And I totally get it-I went to give her a little pint of Culver's ice cream and put it on top and the thing wouldn't close then until I moved it way over to the middle. A pint mind you-pretty small thing.

I have a side by side-just FWIW.

I bought the french doors. I love the freezer in the bottom. hate the fact that there is no ice maker in the door. the ice maker is in the bottom so you have to pull out the drawer to get to the ice. so thats a pain. love the 2 door option on top. only time I have an issue is when I want to get in the meat drawer you have to have both drawers open.

If French Door will fit in the space, that would be my choice. So measure your space. I could not get French door. I did get Steel Clean. Looks like stainless without the fingerprints. Love it!!!

I have a small kitchen island that would make a regular door awakward to open. Be sure you have the room for opening a big door.
