Dr. Sylvia Spradlin is AWESOME. She is not a pediatric specialist but she does have three kids of her own and she is great with kids (and scared adults!).
She is in The Doctor's Building at Olathe Med Ctr. 913/780-0123.
Has anyone gone to a Pediatric dentist that they really like or maybe hated? I want the good, bad and ugly. My sone is 2 1/2 and I want to make him an appt. I want to know if anyone else has experienced one and would recommend a good one.
I live in Olathe and work in Prairie Village. My son goes to day care in Overland Park so anywhere between Olathe and Prairie Village would be great.

We absolutlely love Jenkins and LeBlanc they have now 3 locations. Evey person who works there is awesome and the office is so great my son who is four and daughter who is two love going there!
I highly recommend David Parrish DDS. he has an office off 95th and Metcalf and another one in Olathe on Parker near Santa Fe. His staff is great and my girls actually like to go to the dentist. The phone number at his Overland Park office is ###-###-####.
Dr David Parrish is the best! All of his patients call him "Gramps". He is funny, caring and their staff is wonderful.

I love my dentist Steve Martin but it is in Shawnee, KS so that isn't in your area. I do have to say make sure whoever you go to is on your insurance. The first dentist I went to for me, not my kids, wasn't and even though they covered part of it, I still had about $400 out of pocket for a cleaning and cavaty fills.
My insurance doesn't cover Jenkins & LaBlanc which really bums me out. However, the dentist I now go to starts at age 3 and goes all the up so I don't have to worry about finding a different dentist for everyone. My daughter LOVED them. They did have scrap but they demonstrated everything they were going to do on her teeth on her fingernails so she knew what to expect. Of course my daughter is one of those weird children that likes to have her teeth cleaned.
I can't say enough about Dr. Donna Thomas @ 95th just west of Lamar. I have been taking my kids there since my first one was just 1 (she's now 6). I think she is going to be relocating her office in November 2007 to the old Club Le Femme building off of Nall, just north of Town Center Plaza.
I previously worked as a dental assistant, doing temp. work, so I got to really see many dental offices(the good, bad & ugly!!). And when it came to pediatric dentists, I believe that Dr. Thomas offers more than most offices. A lot of pediatric dentist just employ dental assistants to clean kids teeth, not dental hygienist. That's a big deal, especially if the dental assistant hasn't comleted any additional certification allowing them to "scale below the gum line". Only dentists and hygienist are trained to properly scale/clean teeth. And when you know kids don't typically do the best job brushing their own teeth, why take a chance?
Even if you choose another office, please check to make sure that the person performing the cleaning is the dentist, a registered dental hygienist or at VERY least an expanded duties dental assistant! Ask questions. And demand the best care for your child. If you're given "Oh, kids don't really need "scaling", they just need polishing....so it's okay for a dental assistant to do that. But that is not always the case! And yes, a dental assistant can polish teeth, but many times more than just polishing is needed.
I do think going to a dental office specializing in pediatrics is a great choice. It really does help the anxiety of the children. So, I wish you the best of luck in finding the right place for your family.

My daughter goes to David J. Cobb in Olathe (128th ish and Mur-Len) and she loves him. David L. Parrish also offices with him in that office so I'm sure either would be good to go to. The phone # is ###-###-#### and the address is 975 N. Mur-Len Suite A, Olathe, Kansas 660626.
I've always taken my daughter to Dr. Fales in Olathe (135th - just east of the Applebee's/Kohl's). He is a pediatric dentist and has a play area and the office is designed with the kid in mind. He also has a wonderful 'comfort' dog for those that are nervous or upset. My daughter's first appt there was when she was 3 so we did a 'visit' first to tour the place and they gave her a bunch of stuff to play with at home. She has always been comfortable there.
I take my kids to Dr. Glenn Hemberger and he is located at8575 W 110th St in O.P. His number is ###-###-####. When you walk in it is dinosaur themed and the receptionist is super nice. The staff is great at making kids feel at ease and when they sit in the chair by themselves there are television screens so they can watch cartoons. Hope this is helpful!
