I am in charge of a project next week at my son's preschool, but I really have no idea how to begin, and I need help from you mamas! They are going to be learning about the solar system and I need to come up with a project that uses food to create things like planets, satellites, etc.
My son is allergic to dairy, nuts, and eggs, so none of those can be ingredients.

Any crafty mamas out there that can give me some ideas or point me toward some specific websites? I am totally not creative, so I need help! Hoping to do a lot with fruit if possible...

What can I do next?

Lots of citrus comes to mind. It comes in all sizes. Pummelo for the Sun, etc. Grapefruit, naval orange, orange, tangelo, tangerine, mandarin orange, and a grape for the tiniest. LOL

For satellites, I am picturing some cheese squares or cheese sticks with toothpicks attached to olives.

Rice crispie treats!! Im not sure they are dairy free with reg butter but you coukd probably use whaeer butter you use for him at home. You could dye the marshmallow mix any color before you put in the crispies. Also popcorn balls... They can make the bigger planets and the sun. Hope this helps.

My first thought is that you often see styrofoam balls used. Since you need food to be used, why not use round fruits and/or vegetables of different sizes...peas, grapes, cherry tomatoes, oranges, various melons, etc.

Yup, totally go with the melon balls and round fruits. You can even cut the melon balls in half and insert little rounds of cheese or lunchmeat in the middle to make Saturns. Using toothpicks of course. Or wooden skewers and you can put a whole system on one skewer.
You might want to check out pinterest. I don't do that one, because I hear you get addicted and it's a major time drainer. See if you have a friend on pinterest who can look for you :)
