Parents Helping Parents (PHP) should be able to help.
If you think you are saying the wrong things, try just listening to your friend with your mouth closed. ;)
My dear friend is going through a divorce. Her 4.5 yr old son is also autistic. He's a beautiful and fabulous little guy who is madly in love with his parents. She's having a very hard time - as you can imagine. i feel like a fool when I talk to her since I have no idea what to say. Just wondering if any of you know of support groups I could refer to her. Thanks in advance for your input.

there is a group that is called Parents Helping Parents that can put you in touch with a support group in your area-My friend also has an autistic son(now 12) and she used to run a support group but gave it up a few years ago,I don't know who runs it now-PHP should be able to help you find something for your friend
The website for Parents Helping Parents is www.php.com
They have all sorts of help for parents from support groups to informational lectures.
Good luck
You don't say where your friend lives, but here's a group I stumbled on in the Stockton/Modesto area: www.valleysnafu.com.
They're website looks like it has plenty of resources even if the meetings are too far away.
I have to say, the Educational Specialists at PHP are amazing. I had one spend a couple of hours with me on the phone coaching me on what to say at my daughter's first IEP meeting. She also e-mailed documents and followed up to see how the meeting went.
