I am looking for a referral for an OB/GYN in the San Diego area. I just had a baby in Jul-07; and refuse to go back to the OB/GYN I had during my pregnancy. I never had any problems, so I had my annual exams at Planned Parenthood for years before I found out I was pregnant. I chose my sisters OB/GYN during my pregnancy; however, did not appreciate this OB/GYN's bedside manner. Anyone out there have a good female OB/GYN that seems to care about your welfare and pregnancy just a little? I am not asking for much, just someone with a little compassion who can remember my name and know what service I am in for. Anywhere in the San Diego area would be great!
THANK YOU! Big thanks to all who responded to me. Before I posted my question here, I really didn't know where to start on finding a good doctor. I never cared how warm and fuzzy my doctors were because I never needed them, until I got pregnant. That's when I realized that a little compassion can go a long way. My last pregnancy became high-risk in the last trimester, and I had to chase my doctor down the hall just to get my questions answered. So thanks again, ladies; I now have a great place to start with the resources you have provided.
Dr. Magone is very good. I think she is at sharp hospital in La Mesa now. And it takes a while to get in. B.
I LOVE dr. june melin. she has a very different bedside manner than most- talks to you like a friend and not a dr. she never sugar-coats anything and is very up front and honest. she is located near mission bay and she is the only one in her practice. she delivers at scripps-mercy hospital in hillcrest.
Call West Cost OB/GYN. They are across the street from Sharp Mary Birch and WONDERFUL. I've always seen Dr. Marcrander, but Dr. Goodwin is very good too. Good Luck!
My OB/GYN was fantastic and very caring. Her name is Dr. Yvonne Goff and she practices out by Grossmont Hospital. Her office number is ###-###-####. Not sure if your insurance will work or if her location is convenient, but I do definitely recommend her. Whichever new doctor you end up with, hope your next experience is more positive.
I'm not sure what health care provider you have, but I have Kaiser and have a wonderful OB/GYN. I typically ask for a female doctor, but after going to a few and finding myself highly disappointment, I decided to try a male doctor. Dr. Erickson is awesome! He works in the El Cajon office and possible other places as well. He is the first male doctor that I have been completely comfortable with. I would highly recommend him to anyone.
K.: Dr. Holly Salzman at UCSD Scripps Ranch of Mira Mesa Blvd is an incredible doctor. She is a family doctor, so she she see you for your OB/GYN needs as well as all your other needs. I live in San Diego too and wasn't impressed with my OB/GYN either unfortunately. After I had my baby I had to switch insurance because I didn't go back to work. I'm with Kaiser now. My neighbor loves her OB/GYN and she's with Sharp, I'll ask her his name and get back to you.

I had both of my girls at Sharp Mary Birch Hospital and use the group of doctors and nurse practitioner at West Coast OB/GYN. They are all great. The one I recommend as a primary OB/GYN (although you are seen by all of the doctors in the group) is Dr. Gwendalyn Henao. She is very approachable and easy to talk to. Their nurse practitioner, Mona, is wonderful as well.
I've been with Kaiser Permanente for over 5 years. I'm having my third child in June and I can't praise Kaiser's service enough. I have seen so many different nurse practitioner's, midwives, and ob/gyns and I have never been disappointed. Yes, it's an HMO, but they do their ob/gyn and pediatrics department right.
My present ob/gyn is Dr. Cantu. So far, she is la creme de la creme; everything you'd want in a medical provider, but, like I said, I have been pleased with every other provider too. Even at the last birth, I showed up around shift changes and saw many different nurses, but somehow, they made it seem effortless. The care has always been top-notch.

Dr. Goodwin @ West Coast OB/GYN!!! She is teh BEST!!! They also have Dr. Marcrander, and Mona NP, both females!! I have been through hell & back and they are the sweetest, nothing but professional, caring, and respectful!! They are located near Sharp Memorial Hospital and deliver @ Mary Birch as well!! I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE my OB/GYN... (She delivered my daughter as well as both my niece and nephew). She has a very kind and gentle manner, but not "wimpy". She has always taken as much time as I need to answer any questions I have, and has always made me feel as if when she is with me, there is no place else she should be... makes me feel "cared for"....She is across from the Sharp Complex off the 163, although she is associated with Sharp, she is an Independent Dr, so she takes other types of Insurance. I truly do love her and have recommended her to everyone I know who is looking for an OB. Hope that helps!

I agree with all who suggested West Coast OBGYN. All of the doctors are terrific. I had a high risk pregnancy and they were fantastic.
I have the answer to your prayers. Dr. Lorraine Stanco delivered my son, and she is the BEST THERE is, in San Diego. She delivers all her babies at the Sharp Mary Birch hospital for women. That hospital specializes in delivery and all other surgeries, that only a woman would have to have for example hysterectomies, and things like that. Another wonderful female gynocologist is Dr. Mary Jennings. She is the Dr. that referred me to Lorriane Stanco. Here is her number also ###-###-####, sorry I don't have an address for her. But she's a little different than Dr. Stanco...she comes off kinda harsh at times, but she only has your best interest at heart. Dr. Stanco...though...has WONDERFUL bedside manners. She referred me to my peditrican ...who is Dr. Scott Upton. HE IS WONDERFUL....and here is his number, if you need a peditricain....###-###-####, I don't have his address...but he is really close like around the corner to Dr. Stanco's office.

I have been seeing the same OB/GYN for about 15 years and he is the best. Very compassionate about his work and will always let you know up front whats going on, can sometimes seem a little blunt when he tells you whats good for you but I can handle that because I know he is looking out for me. I recommend any of the doctors at IGO in La Jolla, there are several and they all work together. I see Dr. Wendy Buchi and she is wonderful! You never feel like you are being rushed and she really seems to be concerned about your needs. After I moved away from the area I still drove the distance to keep going there, and still do. I had all 3 of my children with IGO and a hysterectomy.
