Hi Moms and Dads! So my little guy is getting bigger and he is going to need a high chair soon. I thought he could use his sister's but she is just still too attached to it, so I guess I'll have to buy him his own. I am thinking about a booster that would go on the dining chair but I am not really sure how well those work. I really like the idea of being able to push it up to the table for meals, but its not a deal breaker. I don't want to spend a ton of money, so the $200+ ones are really not feasible right now. Thanks in Advance for your advice and help.

We have two we LOVE! The fisher price space saver that straps to the chair and converts to a booster (other posters have rhapsodized about it below, so I'm just adding in mine too!). We also have the cheapo Ikea plastic one with the snap on tray. It is perfect! Light and easy to move from kitchen to table, easy to clean up, straight back (why do they make them with a recline? that's a choking hazard!), just great and so cheap! We had a full sized one with fabric seat (impossible to clean), recline (uggg) that was always there, too big to pull up to the table really, and huge and impossible to store. Good luck!

The Fisher-Price Healthy Care Deluxe Booster Seat worked really well for us. As he got older we removed the tray and he could eat at the table with us.

Mine was a freebie so I'm not even sure they still make it, but something to look for, the height on mine adjusts and I LOVE LOVE LOVE that feature. at the max height it can be pulled up to my counter height table for a meal, or I can lower the entire seat and sit on my couch and comfortably feed my little guy.

Love our Fisher Price Space Saver.

We also recently purchased an Infantino seat that clasps to the table. If your babe is sitting very well on their own, this might be a great (and inexpensive) option. Bonus is you can take the seat virtually anywhere (restaurants, trips) and it fits in suitcases. No tray, though. Would need to eat off the table.

I tried some of the $200+ ones with my first child and hated them when it came to cleaning them and they were big and bulky. When I was expecting txins, I needed something trim, easy to clean and easy to put away since I had to get 2. I ended up choosing some ftom Ikea that are plastic and cost about $25 each and I love them! They are super easy to clean, they stack and are easy to take apart or even bring with us when travelling or going to someone's house for dinner. I couldn't believe paying 90% less for a highchair would result in my being so incredibly happy with my purchase.

We love our fisher price space saver. It is a "high Chair", but it snaps onto a regualr chair and then can be converted into a booster.

Old fashioned wooden spindle chair. Small and all you need. Who needs their kid to recline, swing, and basically be strapped in to blast off into space just to eat a meal?!? I hate those giant plastic nightmares they make now days! And the trays are so big and hard to wash without making a mess on the floor.

I found our highchair for $15 on Craigslist and love it. Saw another just like it at a yard sale for $20 the other day.

We have a Fisher Price space saver chair and LOVE IT! We actually have 2 because our first two kids are only 18 months apart and we loved it so much we got the same again. It reclines so your little one can start sitting in it as early as 3-4 months, is very adjustable, converts to a booster (although a tall one depending on your table it might not fit under) and is less than $50! Plus, since it attaches to one of your dining chairs, it isn't taking up more space. We also have a Fisher Price healthy care booster seat that our 2.5 year old uses. It is smaller, but less flexible and the child needs to be older and sitting well to use it. We only got it because it was lower and would fit under our table so she could sit without the tray (but our table is unusual I think). My first choice is still the Space Saver model though!

Booster chairs are cheap and I like them a lot. I like the flexibility and being able to put them away when I don't have kids using them. I also want them to get the feeling of being at the table and learning that we sit there to eat and we don't run around the house. When they are getting old enough to sit without falling, we just stop using the belt and lid so that they are at the table. If they get down before they are finished we can start dealing with that behavior. All my kids are able to sit and eat a meal without bouncing around by the time they are 2.

I used the polly chico highchair with both of my kids. It's on wheels and I used to always wheel them around the house or over to the table for meals. It reclines so you can actually lay an infant in it. I think it's around 110 on amazon but babies r us sells it as well.

As for a booster, I love the Cooshee booster, also available at Babies R Us/ Toys R Us.

I have to say I love, love, love our Cosco high chairs. You can get them in Babies R Us or Target for $40. That's right, $40! And they're foldable!! We wanted something space saving, so we bought these for our twins and they are some of the sturdiest pieces of baby furniture I've ever bought. I can't believe it, but I've caught the boys climbing into them and they are completely solid (our boys are 30 lbs each at two years old!)! They will not tip over! And when I have guests over, I can fold them up and tuck them away in a closet! Or if we are going away, they fold up and fit in the back of the car if need be. Love, love, love that feature. Plus for $40, they are super affordable.

My husband and I have been really happy with the white plastic highchair from Ikea. It has an easy snap-on tray and everything is easy to wipe down. Also with the tray off it scoots right under the lip of our dining room table. They're pretty cheap new, but you can find them on Craigslist too. We've had ours for 5 years now and it's just great. No strange nooks for food to get stuck in or moving parts to break.

I don't recall the name, but I THINK it is CHICCO and I THINK I got it for our grandson at Babies R Us and it is a portable highchair that attaches to the kitchen/diningroom table. You can bring it with you and I have not seen a table yet that it does not attach to.

Good luck!

We have the Fisher Price Space Saver chair, using it with our second child now. It is nice because it is portable. We have taken it to restaurants and to the inlaws house as well.

The ones that strap to the dining chairs are great! I also suggest one that has a cover on it that is EASY to remove. I have an 11 month old and she just sits in the chair without the cover because she is so messy. I just wipe the chair out after meals. It is a lifesaver. also, they are portable so if we are going to a friends house that doesn't have kids we can easily take it with us!!

Chicco Polly!

Ours is almost 4 years old and has held up great. We will be buying another one next Spring when baby #3 is old enough for it. Our 2 year old still uses it (it was her older brothers)
