Here is a great dip recipe and it is really quick and simple to make.

Pizza Dip Recipe

Ingredients:

1 - 8 oz. cream cheese
1 tsp. Italian Seasoning
1 can Pizza Sauce
1 cup shredded Mozzarella Cheese
Parmesan Cheese

Blend together the cream cheese and Italian Seasoning. After blend is complete, spread onto the bottom of a pie dish. Once the bottom is covered, spread the Pizza Sauce over the cream cheese. Now spread the mozzarella cheese over the pizza sauce and also sprinkle with Parmesan Cheese.

Bake the dip until the top is golden brown and bubbly. (You can also microwave until the cheese is melted)

Serve with tortilla chips, corn chips or French baguettes.

Here is a simple inexpensive dip that I make almost everytime we have a get together and everyone loves it.

1 8oz cream cheese block
Salsa
Shredded cheddar cheese

spread the cream cheese on the bottom of a microwavable container, spread salsa over the cream cheese and then sprinkle the top with cheese. Microwave about 2 minutes or until cheese is melted.

Serve with tortilla chips.

For a hot dish, I usually always do sloppy joes...it's really cheap and easy just throw your meat in a crock pot, add your sloppy joe sauce and then buy some buns...quick easy and budget friendly. It always goes over well.

Hope you enjoy...my family and friends always do.

Have a great day!

Here's a 3 ingredient dip or filling for pinwheels:
1 medium sized jar of salsa
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
1 block cream cheese

Mix with a mixer. If you use less salsa the mixture is thicker and spreads nicely on tortillas that can be rolled up and sliced pinwheels. The dip is great on anything, especially nachos.

Hi S.,
My family loves my Taco Dip recipe and it is very simple.

1 8oz. cream cheese
1 8oz. sour cream
green onion
Large jar of Picante Sauce (I usually use medium strength)
small can of black olives (sliced)
1 bag of shredded taco cheese

In a bowl, mix well the cream cheese and sour cream. Spread this as your bottom layer in a dish. Pour jar of Picante Sauce and spread evenly. Sprinkle with desired amount of taco cheese, green onion, and black olives. Enjoy with your favorite chips (we tend to use the Scoops).

Enjoy!

Have the party in the midafternoon so people won't be hungry for lunch. Also, if you have close family (brothers, sisters, etc) ask them if they could all bring something small. We make a dip that uses hamburger, velveeta (store brand works fine) and salsa. You just use equal amounts of burger and velveeta. Brown the hamburger, add to crock pot. Cut up Velveeta, add that to crock pot, add salsa. I usually use 2lbs of hamburger and 2lbs of Velveeta and a jar of LARGE salsa (chunky works really good). Just stick it in the crock pot on high until it's hot all the way through. Serve with tortilla chips.
Also, kraftfoods.com has GREAT recipes for very little money. You can always double or triple the recipes depending on how big the crowd is. Save money on invites, and call people instead of mailing things out. I'm betting people will offer to bring a side dish.

Congratulations to your son!

Here are some favorite hot dishes for our get-togethers:

"Hanky Panky" (won't policemen love that name?!)
1 lb ground beef
1 lb sausage (as hot as you like)
1 lb Velveeta
Bread of your choice
Brown the meats and drain. Put them in a crock pot and add the Velveeta (I usually cube it so it can be dispersed and melt faster). Heat and stir until the cheese is melted. You can leave it in the crock pot as long as you like; just remember to stir it occassionally. Serve with party-size rye bread, small bagels, or white bread (or rye) cut into fourths. I've also seen it served by topping small bagels with the Hanky Panky and baking them in the oven.

Cocktail Meatballs
1 bag of Armour meatballs (we usually find them at Kroger)
1 jar of Heinz Chili Sauce
1 can of Cranberry Jelly
Thaw the meatballs. Combine the chili sauce and cranberry jelly in a saucepan and heat until the jelly is melted. (My husband ususally "chops" the jelly with a spoon while it's still in the can to make smaller chunks to melt faster.) Put the meatballs in a crockpot and add the chili/cranberry mix. Turn on the heat and forget it (except for the occassional stir).
(I'm not sure what sizes the meatballs come in. We have only found two: a "small" bag and a "large" bag. This recipe is for the small bag. It's easy to double this recipe for larger gatherings, too.)

Chili Dip
1 package of cream cheese, softened
1 can of your favorite Cincinnati style chili
1 pacakge of cheddar cheese
Tortilla chips
Spread the softened cream cheese in a round glass pie plate. Cover with the chili and then the cheese. Heat in the oven until it's warm (usually when the cheese is melted). Serve with chips for scooping.

Throw together a lasagna, some garlic bread and put out some veggies and dip. Don't let the lasagna intimidate you. Use Prego and no bake lasagna noodles. The recipe is on the back of the Barilla lasagna noodles. And if you shop at Wal-mart, you can buy their brand of garlic bread which is cheaper. This is what I usually do for my kids family birthday parties. Or...Sam's Club has a BBQ pork in the frozen foods section and it serves a lot of people. Get some cheap buns. Make cole slaw...bagged cole slaw greens and pour the marzetties cole slaw dressing over it...YUMMY!

I just tried this over the weeking and it was GREAT! -

3 cups fried potatoe squares (I made mine home made using potatoes, onion, garlic, and a bit of season salt) Receipe calls for frozen hashbrowns or potato squares

3/4 cup Bacon bits (package of bacon fried up)
2 cups shredded cheese
16 oz sour cream
2 tbs butter (melted)
tortillas

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix potatoes, bacon, cheese, and 1 cup sour cream (1/2 of sour cream container). Warm up tortillas in microwave, probably about 10 seconds, and use mix to place in center of each tortilla and roll like a burrito. brush melted butter on both sides of burrito. I made about 6 burritos out of my mixture. Then place on cookie sheet and bake for 12-14 mins (should get golden on outside of tortilla). Let stand for 2 mins. Then cut diagnolly and serve with remaining sour cream. It is supposed to be a potato skin appetizer... Mmmm.. they are so good though. Hope you get to try this b/c it is amazing and wasn't hard at all to make. Enjoy!!

Bagel dip is an easy favorite that everyone seems to love! Take one can of Olde English cheese, a block of cream cheese (light versions work fine!) Blend them both up together until completely mixed and form a good consistency. Serve with torn up bagels, pretzel bread (if you have Servatti's near you) or veggies. I also think that asking people to bring an appetizer is totally fine...especially if you provide a hot meal. We always do a chili...crock pot and it is good to go! Congrats to your son

There's always cheese balls, veggie trays and cold meat and cheeses trays (you can make your own cheaper). Then some sweet desserts...a sheet cake decorated which you can also make from a cake mix. Store bought cookies maybe. Have fun and don't worry about it. Good luck and God bless......

favorite salsa
1 package low-fat cheddar cheese
1 cup finely chopped lettuce

If you can afford to buy string cheese, a bag of frozen Rhodes rolls, and pepperoni, I have the thing for you.

Let the rolls thaw, and cut them into 3rds, press them out into circles, layer 2 pepperoni on the dough. Then cut each string cheese into 4ths. Put 1 peice of the cheese in the dough too. Roll all of them up and try not to allow any holes in the dough. Bake at 350 until rolls are golden, and cheese is melted. Serve with warm pizza sauce. This is time consuming to make, but it makes about 75 pizza bites, and is always a huge hit at parties. As well as being rather cost effective for the amount that you get.
Good Luck!

I agree with the other moms - soup is the best way to go! Chili, Vegetable/Beef, Broccoli Cheese, or Potato Soup. All you need are the fixin's (cheese, sour cream, bacon bits, crackers - depending on the soup you choose). Bag of chips and a Veggie tray with dip goes well with it and inexpensive (carrots, cucumbers, broccoli, pickles). Cornbread goes well with chili. That way all you need are small plates and bowls/spoons. Soup goes a long way when needing to feed alot of people! We do this every year for my stepson's birthday with our big family. He gets to pick the kind of soup each year and everyone seems to enjoy it.

I find making a chili bar or taco bar is fun and simple,.
Cook the chili in a crockpot and then just have all the sides people like on their chili,
with the taco bar do the same thing, make the meat, then put out all the toppings and let people serve themselves.

And last but certainly not least, ask people to help, in this economy, no one will be offended, just ask if others can bring toppings, or drinks or paper plates, it is not a bad thing to help out friends.

Relish trays usually go well, just carrots, celery, pickles, maybe olives, maybe cauliflower and broccoli, for dips you can use ranch dressing, and simple onion dip from sour cream etc.
Take a pound of ground turkey or beef, a pack of velveeta style cheese and a jar of mild salsa, brown the meat and drain put in a serving dish, cut up the cheese in small pieces and add to the meat and stir in the salsa, you can melt the cheese in the micro or the oven, stir up and can put spoons of sour cream on top and serve with chips.
Sometimes a fruit tray works well too, but it can get expensive depending on the fruits you use.
You can always make meatballs and put them in a crock pot with some barbeque sauce, sweet and sour sauce, or we used to use Catalina salad dressing.
You can get ham, turkey, or chicken sliced thin, roll it and put it out with a tray of cheeses and sliced bread.
Always potatoe chips, frito style chips go over well too.

First, you should ask for help. In these tough times, I know that most everyone is willing to help out, if asked.
Second, I have a buffalo chicken wing dip...it is easy.
2 large cans of white meat chicken or 3 cups of cooked chicken breast, 8 ounces of cream cheese, 2 cups of shredded cheddar cheese, a small bottle of hot sauce(if you like started out with half a bottle, if you don't like it too hot).
It is layered in greased baking dish...cream cheese, chicken and hot sauce, then shredded cheddar.
Bake at 350 degrees until cheese melts(less than 10 minutes)
Remove from oven...you can either combine mixture(to place in a serving bowl) or just leave it in your baking dish.
Serve with those pretzel cracker, regular crackers or your favorite dipper item.
Good luck, and congrats!

I think Melissa left an ingredient out of her Hanky Panky recipe. We call it something completely different but it was aptly named for a Halloween Potluck at work: Ground-Up Neighbor!

1 lb. hamburger
1 lb. sausage (I like hot - you might want mild...)
1 lb. Velveeta
1 jar of a chunky salsa (at least a medium)
Brown the meats and drain. Put into crockpot - low. Chunk up the Velveeta and put in Crockpot. Add your jar of salsa. It'll look SOOOOO gross until the velveeta is completely melted. If you put it on high, it could burn before all of the cheese is melted...We use Scoops because they are sturdier than regular nacho chips.

As far as cheap hot dish: sloppy joes? I use half turkey and half ground beef...frozen ground turkey's like $1.50/lb at SuperWalmart. If you throw all of the meat into the crockpot frozen then add the sloppy joe sauce, it doesn't get greasy at all - oh, use one less can to the amount of meat. If you have 5 lbs. of meat, use 4 cans of sauce... You can buy buns at the Schewebel's or Nickle's Bakery thrift stores (I'm assuming you're in the Akron area) Good luck!

The sloppy joes were a good idea for something hot. Also, a big pot of chili can go a long way. Add a salad, bread, a few apps and a couple of desserts and you have an entire meal for a reasonable price.

Don't be afraid to ask for help with the food. I always like to take something!

Here's a good app:

BUFFALO CHICKEN DIP
Ingredients
1 pkg. 8 oz. softened cream cheese
1 can (10 oz.) chunk white chicken, drained
½ c. buffalo sauce
½ c. ranch dressing
2 c. (8 oz.) shredded Colby Jack cheese
Tortilla chips

Directions
Spread cream cheese into ungreased shallow 1 qt. Baking dish. Layer chicken, buffalo wing sauce and ranch dressing. Sprinkle with cheese. Bake uncovered at 350 for 20 to 25 minutes or until cheese is melted. Makes about 2 cups.

And a good dessert (and easy, I buy the Angel Food cake already made):
ANGEL LUSH WITH PINEAPPLE

1 pkg. (4 oz. package) instant vanilla pudding
1 – 20 oz. can crushed pineapple in juice – do NOT drain
1 c. thawed cool whip

Mix pudding and pineapple, including juice, together. Gently stir in cool whip.

Can cut angel food cake in 3 layers and spread each layer with pudding mixture or serve individually.

Can cover with strawberries.

Makes 8 single servings.

Cubes of ham
Cubes of mozzarella cheese

Put a few cubes of each ham/cheese in a cresent roll and fold to make a pocket around and bake.

Pasta salad is always easy, makes alot and is cheap.....

I use tri color noodles in mine, a cucumber diced, a can of sliced black olives, 1 pack cherry tomatoes, cubed pepperoni, and cubed colby jack cheese. I mix with a jar of Lite Italian dressing.

My M. makes a taco dip.....

spread cream cheese on the bottom of a baking sheet, cook hamburger and add taco seasoning and spread on top of cream cheese then top with shredded cheddar cheese and bake until cheese is melted. Serve with tortilla chips. This is always a hit and does not require many ingredients.

I make a taco salad that is different and good....

1 lb hamburger cooked and cooled
1 onion chopped
1 tomato chopped
1 can light red kidney beans drained, rinsed and dried well
1 package shredded cheddar cheese
1 can sliced black olives
1 package fritos corn chips
1 jar light ranch dressing

mix all together and serve cold. make sure to stir in fritos right befor serving so they are not soggy.

You also could just do something like baked spaghetti..

Cook noodles and drain, mix in jar sauce and heat, pour in 9x13 dish, top with sliced pepperoni, and sprinkle with mozzarella cheese, sprinkle lightly with Italian seasoning and bake until chhese is melted and slightly browned.

Serve with Garlic bread and a salad.

Pasta is sooo cheap and I can usually find pepperoni at Meijer's(meijer's brand) for $1 and sauce is cheap. You could make each 9x13 for about $ 6. This pasta is good and you don't miss the expensive ground beef.

Hope this helps and Have lots of fun!!!!

S.,
I don't know if you'd be interested in this, but we were in the same situation once w/ a yearly Christmas party. Instead of snacky foods, I made a huge pot of vegetable soup and one of chili. Everyone loved it. You're set up might not lend itself to that, though.

Also, I have a home business that's bringing in extra money for us. If you're interested my # is ###-###-#### -home, or ###-###-####.

Try Tastefully Simple. All the snacks and dips are easy and only require 1 or 2 ingredients. All the dips use mayo and/or sour cream and are ready in minutes.

Chocolate Chip Cheese Ball
1 pkg (8 oz) softened cream cheese

1/4 t vanilla
3/4 cup powdered sugar
2 T brown sugar
3/4 C miniature chocolate chips
3/4 c finely chopped pecans

1. In mixing bowl, beat cream cheese, butter & vanilla until fluffy. Gradually add sugars; beat just until combined. Stir in chocolate chips. Cover & refrigerate at least 2 hours.
2. Place cream cheese mixture on large piece of plastic wrap. Shape into a ball. Refrigerate at least 1 hour.
3. Just before serving, roll ball in pecan pieces.

Serve w/ a variety of graham crackers.

BAKED CHILI SPREAD (HOT)
* ALWAYS a huge favorite

1 10oz can chili without beans (I use turkey chili)
1 small onion, chopped
8 oz cream cheese (I ALWAYS use light)
1-4oz can mild green chilies
8 oz Monteray Jack cheese, shredded

Mix chili, onion cream cheese in bowl. Spoon into greased 9x9 baking dish. Spread undrained chilies over mixture. Sprinkle w/ shredded cheese. ( I HAVE mixed in chilies w/ chili) Don't necessarily like it better one way or another. A little less messy, I think, though.

Bakes at 350 degrees for 15-20 minutes or until heated thru. Serve w/ nachos.

YYYYUUUMMMMMY!!!

For something quick, you can also take a brick of cream cheese (or light cream cheese) and put some plum or cherry preserves or jam, apricot jam or preserves or chutney on top. (you can really pick any kind or flavor that you like) Serve w/ crackers and or celery.
