Need Milk-Free and Egg-Free Recipes for My 16 Month Old

My 16 month old is allergic to milk and eggs. He has been on Elecare infant formula since he was 4 months old. I am running out of ideas for meals. He is in daycare. The daycare provides food, but I am not able to let him eat what they serve because most everything includes milk (mac & cheese, cereal, etc). So every night I am preparing breakfast, lunch and snack for him for the next day. His typical meals are oatmeal or hashbrowns and sausage for breakfast. For lunch I give him chicken nuggets, baked chicken and veggies, or turkey ground with potatoes and veggies. His typical snacks are animal crackers, fruit cup or graham crackers. The teachers tell me that he is always very sad during meal times because he is the only one in the class that is eating something different. The other day it was another child's birthday and my son was the only child that could not have cake. That just broke my heart. I tear up just thinking about it. I can't wait until he grows out of this allergy. Any other recipe ideas for breakfast, lunch and snack? Thank you all very much!

What can I do next?

D. - I just did a search for "milk free & egg free recipes". There are several sites and here is a link for a site for a cookbook with recipes.
http://www.dairyfreeeggfreekidpleasingcookbook.com/
I didn't have a chance to look at any of the other sites and see what all recipes are just online. You might try that search or something similar and see if there is anything you can come up with. Also - you might get with the daycare and see if there is anyway they can let you know a couple of days before a kid brings birthday cake/cupcakes so you can bake one for your son so he can share in the party. Maybe he won't feel so left out then. I would think there is a recipe somewhere for cake & icing that is dairy free and egg free. I will try to keep my eyes & ears open for you on this. HTH....

I would recomend that when there is a birthday party to bring a egg/milk free cupcake to the daycare. I would recommend to the teachers to maybe do rice-crispie treats instead of cake. The daycare center should be able to make a special lunch for your child. Maybe you should follow the schools menu, just subsitute the egg/milk products for products similar. For example: Lunch: Chicken nuggets, mac and cheese, corn. Subitute the daycares mac and cheese with your very own mac and cheese made with water instead of milk. Also try www.foodallergycookbook.com and www.foodallergy.org/Recipes. I would also recommend getting into a group for children with food allergies, it will work wonders!

Last year I made my son a Goody Bag for birthday parties at school. The thing he loved the most was Oreos! They are milk and egg free. For cupcakes I recommend the Wacky Chocolate Cake. http://southernfood.about.com/od/chocolatecakes/r/bl01018... For frosting use Pillsbury Vanilla or Strawberry. You could make homemade cheese free pizza. I load ours up with tons of veggies! This is a favorite at home. I also make this when he gets invited to birthday parties and they serve pizza. Pillsbury pizza and French loaf dough is dairy and egg free. For fruit dip use Toffuti Better Than your Cream Cheese with strawberry jelly. You may ask if you can keep Italian Ice "ice cream" cups or fruit sorbet to use during parties at school. Also look into West Soy yogurt. Mixed Berry is the best and hardest to find.

I feel your pain--my son is currently gluten-free/dairy-free. it can be very hard!
I would stick with lots of produce and some fun dips (kids that age love to dip). Maybe some hummus or peanut butter and honey?
You could also find out what they are serving at school and make a mock version of it.
Good luck!
