I second the Labor of Love referral. It is a very mommy and family friendly place. CharLynn, who runs the birth center is wonderful. I would go there every time. B. P.
I am new to the area and 3 months pregnant. I live in the Odessa area close to Ehrlich and Veterans and am looking for a good OB or midwife. I've received one reference of a Helena Reichman at St. Joseph Women's hospital - is anyone familiar with this doctor or the hospital? Are there certain hospitals I should consider or stay away from? I've used a midwife before and had a great experience but would only consider this route if they delivered at the hospital or very near the hospital. Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! (I did see all the responses regarding Carrollwood OB/GYN)
Great feedback! Thanks for all your advice - it is most appreciated!

I don't know anything about midwifes, but definitely choose St. Joes Women's hospital. They are the best! I've never heard anything negative about them. Stay away from University Hospital, that's for sure!
I have used the women's group and they deliver at St joseph and also in University community hospital my first son I deliver at St joe's (lived close to there) and my second I went to University and to tell you the thruth both were amazing and about the Women's group they are very professional they have to offices one in MArtin Luther King and the other one is in New tampa (tampa palms) it is a big group and I have seen all of them thru my pregnancies and I do have my favorites but all of them are excellent and very qualified.
I will give you the number in the Martin Luther king's office

They are the best all my friends and their families go there.
Hi! I love Labor of Love. Check out their website at http://laborluv.com/. I live in Dunedin and go to the one here, but there are other locations.

Dr. Reichman is my ob/gyn and she is awesome! I plan on getting pregnant again very soon and wouldn't think of using anyone else. She takes her time and answers all your questions and is very friendly. Her office is right inside the hospital which is very convenient also. St. Joseph's Women's is a wonderful hospital to give birth at! My sister-in-law gave birth at Brandon Hospital and it doesn't even compare. I thought it was horrible! I've heard that Mease Countryside is very good also. Hope this helps!
As far as hospitals go I love St joe's Womens Center. Both of my kids delivered there. Hopefully you will not need this but the NICU there is great. My daughters nurse answered all questions when doc was not available. He knew all his patients names by heart. He also knew that she prefered to sleep in the total darkness. He treated all of them as if they were his own. My neice was delivered at Tampa General. They were ok it just seemed to be very dirty. Rooms and Hallways not cleaned. I have never liked the University Hospital.
Dr. Reichman is GREAT!! And I am probably biased but I think that St Joes is the place to go, though you are far from it I would avoid brandon regional at all cost.

If you were happy with a midwife before, it would probably be a good idea to stick with that here. The best choice would be Women's Health Care. They are located right next to Tampa General on Davis island. Yes it's a longer drive for you, but if it's important to you to have a birth experieince that's YOUR way, then this is the way you will probably be happiest. There is a another clinical midwifery group on the other side of the bay that delivers in Clearwater. That one is Contemporary Women's Care.
Have a wonderful pregnancy and birth experience.
