I have had this happen before.. I popped them like pimples.. but I did so right away. There could be deeper infection now and I would ask a physician.
I was wondering if anyone has had any problems with Brazilian Waxing. I started getting them in April 07 and everything was going along fine. I had a waxing in October, same place, same person. I noticed a few days later that I started to have
large pimple types of marks on the frontal area. It's now March and I still have them
and they really haven't seem to go away. They are redish purple and a little tender to the touch. Not very attractive. I asked the shop about it and they feel it's ingrown hairs. I just wondered if anyone else has had this problem and if so what they did about it. If not, any suggestions besides going to a Dermatologist or Gynecologist? I have a Gynecologist appointment in April. Thanks in advance for any of your responses.
I want to thank all of you for your quick and wonderful responses. I have been doing what many of you said. Some of you have some different ideas and I am going to try them. I do have a Dr's appointment and am definitely going to follow up on your suggestions. Again, thanks for all your help. This is a great place to get answers to your questions. I hope, at some time in the future, I can help some of you with my
suggestions. Have a great day everyone, D.

It does sound like in grown hairs. I have had this happen after a waxing as the hair starts to grow back in. So I lightly exfoliated (a dry wash cloth) then plucked the hair out of the "pimple" I know this sounds weird and painful but it actually felt better than the tender spot, and it seemed to do the trick as the spot was gone in a couple days. They make a cream that balances the ph and helps prevent in grown hairs in the bikini area.
These are in grown hairs. I would start by using loufa on the area every day and follow up with a product I believe is called Tend. I've been buying for a while so I only know it by sight. They should have it at Ricky's. It is basically like an after shave product for sensitive areas and it keeps you from getting more of those bumps. But you should be doing a loufa after waxing regularly to prevent in grown hairs.

I would definitely say you have an ingrown hair that is infected at this point. I would try using warm compresses to see if you can get it to the surface and then pull it or squeeze it out. Since it's been so long, I would try the warm compresses for a few days and then go see the dermatologist if it doesn't improve.
For future waxes, make sure you always exfoliate in the shower and use some type of solution to fight ingrowns.
I always wait 24 hours after waxing and then make sure I use a loofah or scrub to exfoliate while I'm in the shower. I do this daily. After the shower, I use a tea tree oil pad on my bikini area. Tea tree oil is a natural disinfectant so it helps to prevent pimples and clogged pores. There's other solutions you can use like Tend Skin or Bliss Ingrown Hair Eliminating Pads, but I prefer the more organic approach.
Hope this helps!

I use the NADS product. It is great and washes off with warm water. Nothing sticky or messy. You can reuse the cloths too. I also have had these bumps on 2 different times. They were also purple. I found out that they were in grown hairs. What happens is if the hair is pulled out in the same direction that it is growing in, it WILL cause it to become in grown. Because the hair in that area grown in different directions, it is very difficult to always pull everything out in the direction that it should be pulled in.
You could research the proper way to take care of them, but this is what I do. If they are uncomfortable, I use a clean tweaser and just scratch across the top and then the hair just pops right out. It is not even attatched because it is like a very small infection. DO NOT DIG AT IT! It will cause it to scar just like a pimple that kids tend to pick at.
I truly believe that this is the case for you ladies. I would use a LITTLE proxide on a cotton ball on them after the hair is removed. Then just keep it clean. It is SOOOOO much better then shaving, I wish that I had started doing it in my 20's.
D. could be a staph infection, you may need topical antibiotics or even oral pills..........I would have at least your general MD check you out. Or at least get topical bactracin and apply for a few days to see if it helps...could be mrsa....even if its ingrown hair follicles you probably need them treated.......hope it helps.....B.,R.N.
Hi D., Don't know what Brazilian waxing is but in general what people don't realize is that the stick that is dipped in the wax go's back in the wax to reapply to another area. In other words it has touched someones body and dipped back in the wax warmer to accumulate bacteria from everyone else before you. I hope your appointment is early in April . In the meantime what you might try is Witch Hazel. You can get it in your Pharmacy or supermarket/Walgreens. Dab some on with cotton or find Witch Hazel Pads. Do this as often as you can. Good luck.

it is common i get them on occassion with regular waxing not brazilian. you need to take a tweezer and pluck the hair out of the pimple and then it will heal and go away. otherwise the pimple gets bigger and hurts more. (there is actually a hair in there believe it or not)
Well it could be an infected hair follicle, but it could also be herpes simplex, which can lay dormant for 5 years.
many people don't even know they have it,especially men.

NOW before anyone gets upset, you should know that there are MANY MANY MANY strains of the virus,
And only a doctor can tell you which kind,
MY son had a strain of the virus on his CHEEK from the chicken pox shot, so do not jump to conclusions.
I included 2 links, but there are many more, your best option is to really see a doctor, OB/GYN first, and then she will refer you or prescribe you something for the area.

EDIT:
After bikini waxing or shaving, there may be a possibility of little bumps and the area may itch when it starts to grow back. Getting bikini waxed is also like getting a haircut. You need a few days to get used the sensation. Using GiGi's Bikini Wax Soothing Cream (a topical analgesic cream) will help relieve bumps, ingrown hairs, redness, or other discomforts resulting from the hair removal procedure.
sounds like ingrown hairs. i had them before also and stopped waxing. i actually went to my dermatologist because they were looking so bad that she "popped" them and then they went away...i waited like 4 months tho...i would check it out if i were you, the last thing us ladies need are infections by your "hoo hoo" good luck!! :)
If it is just irritation and/or ingrown hairs, you an try a product called Tend Skin. It is absolutely fabulous. Put it on immediately after the waxing, and use it 2x a day for the next couple days. For one, if it's a bacterial issue, it will disinfect. It also reduces irritation. My husband uses it after he shaves and it is the ONLY thing that works for his sensitive skin. Definitely see your doc, to be sure.
Yes, they are ingrown hairs and they hurt and itch. I loofa. Scrub really hard just so the skin doesnt grow over the hair folicals and the hairs can come out. It is a little uncomfortable to do but well worth the effort.
I used to own a Salon and can't imagine it's still irritated. It probably is ingrown hairs (I'd know by looking). Maybe when you see your GYN have them take a look.
Not everyone is cut out for it.
Hi - I have been waxing my bikini for years and used to ahve the same problem - I found something called "no bump" (you can get it on the internet, comes in a green bottle) when I put it on after waxing, i no longer got red bumps or ingrown hair...once the bumps are there - not sure - my sister has a salon and I know she has done a 'facial' type thing on the bikini areas for ingrown hairs (mud 'mask', etc) - hope it works out -

Hi D.,
It may be that you have sensitive skin and need to go to a place where they use wax on sensitive skin (it's green rather than the honey color). Sometimes the waxing professionals are not very professional and don't rip the hair our properly, and the most famous excuse in salons is that all of a sudden you have all these in-growns. To get rid of the rash you can buy a soft brush or like a natural luffa and scrub the area gently in the shower and then put either special cream or baby powder. My suggestion is go to a place that has sensitive wax and waxing professionals who know how to rip the hair properly.
Good Luck

D....I haven't had as harsh as a reaction as yours sounds, but I have had a bump or two that seemed more than just an ingrown. If you use warm compresses on them every so often, they might subside.
Mine just went away without doing that, so hopefully yours will, too. If they are still there when you have your OB appointment, definitely point it out to her/him. Good luck!
This is normal when you get Brazilian wax. I get them all the time too. Exfoliating helps too.
Hi D.:
I get Brazilian Waxes too. I have been getting them as often as I used to since I had my 4 year old. But I have been getting them on and off since about 2001, prior to that just regular bikini waxes. The girl that did my brazilian wax the first time told me that in order to prevent ingrown hairs, I needed to use a loofah sponge and a body scrub to clean the area every day. So thats what I try to do. Not sure if what you have is because of ingrown hair though.
Since its been several months since you had the wax done and the pimples are so tender, I would recommend seeing a doctor.
Stephanie.
I think you should go to your family doctor, don't wait until April. By pulling the hair out(waxing) you leave an opening for germs and such to get into your skin, and with things like MRSA around you can't afford to wait to get it checked out. I don't think you can take the word of "the shop" this is a medical concern not a cosmetic one.....go to the doctor ...TODAY
Hi D.,
I've been getting brazilian waxes for about 2 years now, i notice if i nair or shave instead one month it makes ingrown soo much worse!! I use Arbonne's Awaken sea salt scrub everytime i shower to help all the ingrowns the longer you wait they worse they get so definitely keep scrubbing. Where do you go to get them done??? I found a great spa = Sugar Sugar in port jeff they are fast, professional and use a sugar based wax which is much gentler. If there is no hair coming out I would def go to the doc - gyno and have it checked out! I get worried abotu salons double dipping their sticks in the wax, this could easily spread anything!!
Good Luck!!
Yes, the bumps in general are totally normal - they are most likely ingrown hairs. There are several good products out there to help. You have to be diligent and use them daily - one is called Zero Bumps. Also a gentle loofah daily will get rid of dead skin which is a big culprit. You also may want to ask your practitioner if she can tweeze out the ingrown hairs next time you go - painful but necessary to avoid further infection. If you already have a dermatologist, you may want to just call and ask for other product and general care recommendations.

They are in grown hairs. I am not sure where you live but most places that specialize in Brazilian waxing can give you a solution that can prevent them. The shop should have been able to fix this and if they were not then see a dermatologist or change shops.
Hi D.,
I'm a mother of two. I've been getting Brazilian waxes since Apr 03. Interestingly, I started waxing to avoid getting ingrown hairs, which for me, seems to occur sparingly since I started. In general, I use an exfoliant (any OTC scrub like St. Ives will do) daily in the shower to free the hair follicles that tend to grow parallel to the skin, rather than perpendicular and thus through the skin.
It sounds like you have some areas of folliculitis. They should resolve as the hair grows through, though the areas will be tender. If you can express the pus surrounding the follicle, it should release the pressure and the hair should come through the skin.
This happens from time to time with my waxes too. But through the years as I stuck with it regularly, it happened less and less. If you're shaving in between, this will make it worse, may even bring it on.
Good luck!
Hey there D.!
I went to get a brazilian wax before I went on a cruise in May 2005, it started with the red bumps that you can easily pull the ingrown hair out of. I then realized that i had several bumps that didn't have any ingrown hair. They got really sore and pretty big and very unattractive. When I realized that there was no hair in there to pull out, and compresses weren't working at all I went to the doctor, and he recommended doing exactly what I was doing, he also said try epsom salts. Well, nothing has worked and I went to the doctor several more times since then, we tried antibiotics and everything. He eventually decided that they are subacious cysts and since they have been there so long there is nothing they can do. Well, here we are over 2 years later and I still have these ugly red bumps (about 3 of them). I am going to make an appointment with a dermatologist (The doctor said to wait till my daughter was born to do that). Anyways, for your sake I hope they are just simple ingrown hairs and not this...I went from always shaving or brazilian waxes to now...I have to leave some hair to cover the bumps just because I am so self concious, even with DH. It sucks. So I'd say get to the doc asap, do the compresses try to get the hair out, even try to get some anti biotics if it is bad enough. Good Luck
giiirrrl..
go to the walk in clinic NOW and make sure its not a staph infection. I had the same thing happen to me except it was with a razor. Staph is no joke and you dont want to mess around with it. I let mine get bad and they had to lance, drain, remove tissue, and pack the wound every two days. Ended up in the hospital because it spread into my blood and it was MRSA so regular antibiotics didnt work...had to get an IV to finally kick its butt. It was gone for a year then popped back up in nearly the same place. i thought it was just ingrown hair or a massive pimple that would go away but it was unusually tender. i had reused a recent razor instead of following original orders of using them once and toss. (My fault and kicking myself now) so here i am again, more antibiotics, gauze, packing, and feeling icky. PLEASE get checked for this. It can be life threatening if not caught in time. Many people dont realize that staph kills more people every year than AIDS....crazy huh?
good luck and best wishes!!
