Buca di Beppo...
You have a bunch of them in the Twin Cities area. Great place...good for families. Fun...GREAT Italian food...fmaily-style dining. GREAT prices!
Hello! My birthday is coming up and tradition is to go out to eat. I'm sick of the usual places such as Red Lobster or Applebee's. I'm willing to try something different and LOVE mexican food. There will be about 10 of us so if possible we'd like to make reservations. I should also note that it doesn't have to be a Mexican restaurant. Any suggestions?

Pancho Villa on Nicollet in Minneapolis, in the "Eat Street" area. It's around 26th St., I think. When we go there it's usually only a quarter white people, and the food is awesome, as are the margaritas! Plus the prices are very reasonable.
Go to Salsa ala Salsa, which is just off Loring Park downtown. There are other good Mexican restaurants on Eat Street, as well.
Chino Latino is wonderful, they have big round tables for large groups or small ones for small groups. They have an amazing menu and serve everything family style-great for parties!! I went on Valentines Day and enjoyed it very much.
Chula Vista in West St. Paul was voted best Mexican restaurant for 2007. I also LOVE Pepitos off of Chicago in Mpls, but I don't know if they take reservations.
My fav is Boca Chica in St. Paul's Westside. or Chula Vista on Robert in West St. Paul.
hey! There are several Mexican places around that I don't mind going to (I'll admit it, I'm kind of a snob about Mexican food having been raised in Los Angeles). There's a GREAT place in Lakeville called El Patio at the corner of Dobb and Cedar. *GREAT* food, GREAT service. Everyone is friendly there!
Do you love REAL Mexican food? Or the Americanized version? If you like the Americanized version, there are no nice options for a celebration. They are all tacky restaurants like Don Pablo's.
HOWEVER, if you like real Mexican, try Masa. It's in downtown Minneapolis and it's haute cuisine Mexican. It's the same food that my family serves in Morelia, Mexico. WARNING: again, it has little in common with what most Americans think is Mexican food...
I 2nd that Chino Latino is SOOO fun. Definitely a great place for a large group. They have a huge variety of foods from equatorial countries around the world. If you go, save room for the Sacraficial S'mores. They are the best!
My fav. Mex. will not work for your party, but keep it in mind for a date night. Chiapas in NE Minneapolis. They have Jarritos, a large menu & have recently added some vegetarian entreés.
The Mexican places which were recommended are really good so if you do want Mexican, just keep a running list and then you can check them off as you try each one.
However, if you really want to try something different, I'd recommend D'Afghan in Bloomington. Yes, it's Afgani food and very very yummy. It is hard to find because you cannot see it from the street so people only hear about it by word of mouth. I've taken every friend there and they LOVE it. Nearest intersection is 494 and Lyndale in Bloomington. If you need directions, I can give them to you.
Neither are Mexican, but both are good! Enjoy! in Apple Valley is a beautiful atmosphere and yummy food...kind of wood/fire roasted/home cooked style. Tejas in Edina (Southwestern food) is great also! Both take reservations.
Happy Birthday!
El Loro or Acaulpoco my favorite mexican restaurants they have several locations throughout the cities.
How much to do you want to spend and how casual or fancy do you want it? I love La Belle Vie located in the old 510 restaurant spot across from the Walker Art Center. Very expensive but very good and a real treat. Mexican? Chino Latino is very good I heard. Or try a great little Greek restaurant called Gardens of Salonica or Thai...Taste of Thailand (four locations)
I second Boca Chica in St. Paul or El Loro.
Not fair - now I want mexican food! :)
I recommend LaCasita out in Roseville. The atmosphere is really nice and the food is excellent. I believe they have a deal for the birthday person as well.
Happy Birthday!

El Loro in Coon Rapids is authentic and fun. I think they do live Mariachi on Thursdays. Good food, good value, and we've had groups of 15 in there before. I just don't remember if they take reservations. (Sorry!:))
Saint Paul has some great Mexican restaurants, such as La Cucaracha.
By the way, I love your baby's name!
I cook Mexican for dinner at least once a week. I am from AZ and haven't found many good places. My favorite is El Burrito. They have a restaurant, grocery store with a bakery and deli and a cafeteria style restaurant. The place is run by people that pretty much only speak Spanish. When we lived in St. Paul we went all the time. It is sooo good! I have included their website so you can check them out. http://www.elburritomercado.com/contact.htm.
Hi B.
If you love Mexican food then you will love Boca Chica restaurant on Cesar Chavez St. in St Paul , they can accomodate your group of 10 just call innadvance to make a reservation. Best Wishes for a very Happy Birthday.

Try Tejas in Edina. 50th and France area. Good mexican and yummy magaritas.
Have a happy birthday!
I am not from Minnesota but my all time favorite resturaunt is Maggiano's. It is Italian. I'd suggest the family style. It is slightly pricy, but you get so much for the money and it is so good. I am from Nebraska and we don't have one here. Everytime I am remotely near one we go. I've been to the one there, I believe it is in Eden Prairie, or something like that. They have a web-site. They do take reservations. Good luck, and Happy Birthday!!!
El Patio is really good, great Margarita Pitchers! Chino Latino is another. And I second Enjoy in Apple Valley or Chianti Grill in Burnsville
HAPPY BIRTHDAY B.
