Need Good Moisturizer for Infant with Sensitive Skin

I was just going to say that the Melaleuca lotion is the only thing that works for me and my kids in this state. I love it. Anyway, I see others have told you the same thing. They really do have a bunch of awesome products though. :) Not just saying that because I am one of the marketing executives either. LOL I am so serious. They are so great.

I most certainly have to recommend Melaleuca as well. They have WONDERFUL products and the RENEW lotion is AMAZING!

As an Aesthetician I learned that our skin needs to manintain an acid mantle. The problem with modern cleansers is that they are too alkaline.
Don't use commercial brands of baby products and any commercial brands of any kind.
Sunrider's Kandesn products are PH balanced and are very gentle. Their Kandesn Cleansing Foam and their Kandesn Moisture Lotion are great.
Also what is your diet and your babies diet like? Are you eating processed food? If you are breast feeding what you eat is very important too.
Try to eat food that came off trees or out of the ground and stay away from packets and fast foods.

Many of the lotions mentioned previously contain parabens and harmful chemicals. Stuff that I wouldn't put on my baby under the best conditions, let alone if she were having skin issues.

Use something all-natural like California Baby or Avalon Organics Baby. Burt's Bees is okay too.

Something that works just as well, if not better, is coconut oil - get the extra-virgin organic kind. You can buy it at Whole Foods in the cooking oil section. Apricot kernel oil, olive oil, and almond oil are great moisturizers as well but do not have the healing properties of coconut oil.

My daughter started with dry patches when she was a baby. They got more frequent and it turned out to be eczema. I read and read for months on this website requests for eczmea and dry skin help and I kept reading about this product called Melaleuca- Renew Bosy Lotion and Renew Bath Oil. So many women swear by this and have claimed that it did away with their children's eczema, itching, scabs, dry skin etc... when prescription meds and over the counter ones did nothing or hurt the children. So, being that I have spent a small fortune on everything and anything for my daughter, I thought I'd give this a try since the claims were so fantastic.

Well, it's been about 4 months I've used it on her daily- oil all over her right out of the shower while her skin is still moist and then I plop on the cream. She hasn't had any eczema come up and she hasn't suffered from any dry skin. There have been times I thought she might be beginning to have her usual problems, but I would just put the cream and oil on her twice a day. Nothing ever came up on her. Since I knew I would be using this stuff permantently for her treatments, I joined Melaleuca so I could get the preferred customer pricing. Right now to join it's only $1. That runs through Oct 31st. If you don't already know someone you can try this through, I will be more than happy to help you :). I've tried their other products, too and they're all great. I just read all the numerous responses to your request and they are all good - but I have one thing to add... dry patches start from the inside out. This is an internal problem which people don't realize. Topical creams can only help so much. My baby had dry patches which turned to very itchy eczema and after trying a million different creams, my smart doc advised us to give my son fish oil and flax seed oil. They have it for kids at Whole Foods and he loved and still loves it! It's good for all of us - eczema or not, but I think it really helped my son's skin. He still has sensitive skin but no eczema now - (he's 4 now).

I love the arbonne products. You can buy online www.arbonne.com I use the bath gel, lotion and they have baby oil and sunscreen too. Also, vaseline lotion is the best! Very thick, great for dry skin when he was an infant.

I have tried everything under the sun for my son's escema, but the only thing that helps is the Eucerin Intense Therapy Cream. Also, for those severe areas, there is an ointment sold at whole foods stores (Calendula) that works amazingly....fixed my son's super bad patch overnight!

Our little guy has very sensitive skin too. The only thing we use is Aquaphor by Eucerin after his bath. It's lovely! Hope it helps!

Cetaphil, the kind in the tub. I have 2 kids w/ eczema, and they seem to have fewer flair ups.

The ABC line is geared towards baby, children and extremely sensitive. I was totally skeptical about the product until I tried it and now I love it and started selling it. For the dry patches, try applying a little bit of hydrocortisone cream on the area once per day and use Aquaphor. We swear by Aquaphor!

Try Johnson's Soothing Naturals Nourishing Lotion. It works best when used right after a bath. It cleared up the dry patches on my son's legs in no time!

Aquaphor Baby! My son had super sensitive skin and this is what my doctor told me to use.

Extra Virgin Coconut Oil. Get it at the health food store.

My daughter has sensitive skin also, and our pediatrician recommended Aquaphor. It seemed to work well without any reaction... my husband loves it too!

I have a 3 month old with the same problem. What worked for me is Cetaphil (the one in the jar not the tube). I use it with the "Cetaphil Gentle Cleansing Bar" which is soap free. It is milder than the baby products i've seen out there including Aveeno baby which is what I used before. I could see a difference after only 2 days. His skin is back to normal now but I still use the cream after his bath (only every 2 or 3 days, so his skin doesn't dry out too much again!).

Just use the cream after every diaper change. After a bath don't dry his legs off completely but only dab off excess water then put on the cream.

Best of all: the cream is not greasy at all.

cetaphil is awesome. no perfumes or dyes. I highly recommend it. We have used aveeno, too, but I prefer cetaphil. we have 4 eczema sufferers and dry skin is a big issue in our home - especially this time of year. They also have a cetaphil cleanser and a heavier balm for really dry days / protection.

My daughter has eczema so on top of prescription creams we use Cetaphil and Aquaphor.

Triple Paste (the best diaper rash cream ever) has just come out with a new cream for skin that is working well too.

My son uses aveeno or eucerin....

My son has really, really dry skin, and I have been using the line on him faithfully. During this time of year it always gets worse, so I add in the baby oil with it and it clears it up. Try Cetaphil cream or Aquaphor. My son has eczema and both work well for him. Walmart carries a generic of Cetaphil and it is quite a bit cheaper than the name brand and works just as well.

My DD has incredibly sensitive skin and we have tried everything on the market. She also has allergies and food intollerances, so we tried to be very careful with what goes on and in her body. Crazy thing...out of all the expensive products we tried, the Johnson's Baby Cream (it is in a pink tube) worked the best for her. Also Aquaphor works great for any red patches or dry areas. It usually heals it up in a few hours.

I like Aquaphor for really dry patches on cheeks and Disney brand has a nice eczema cream which I've used on dry patches on legs and arms. For regular daily use, I like Aveeno or the Johnson Natural cream. Huggies has a nice cream for sensitive skin specifically which is mild and scent free. I found all these at the grocery store. Almost all moisturizers have petroleum in them and that is not a good thing. Sensaria Natural Bodycare has the best moisturizer for dry and/or sensitive skin with no petroleum or dyes or perfumes in it. don't put anything on it, other than mayb a bit of organic aloe vera gel. it is his "water skin" still coming off--the patches are around the joints. moisturizing now will make him prone to heat rash later.

but also see if he is having a hard time digesting certain foods. that can throw your skin off very quickly since it is the largest elimination organ your body has.

The brand California Baby is pretty good. My son's skin is sensistive too and he has no reaction to it. You can find their products at Target and beauty supply stores. Also you may want to cut down on the frequecy you bathe your baby now that the weather is getting dry. Hope this helps.

Check out the babyface products from San Diego Natural Soap Co (www.SanDiegoSoap.com). They're extremely mild, all natural, organic and have a lovely lavender scent. The kids' line is great too and has an orange creamsicle scent. I've used all the products on my daughter since she was an infant (now 4 1/2 years old), and she's never had a reaction to any of them.

My pediatrician recommended Lubriderm for sensitive skin for my babies. It worked great and I still use it for all of us.

I have exema and swear by Aveeno!

Okay, I know this is going to sound crazy for an infant, but the only thing that doesn't give my little girl acne is my face cream - Oil of Olay sensitive moisture therapy lotion. It's not oil based like most baby moisturizers, and you don't have to use much. We just tried it out of desperation one day and it worked really well! When I run out I plan to buy the generic brand version and see if it works as well.

Hey D., I know what you're going through. When my son was little he had extremely sensitive skin. I tried the sensitive skin baby lotions and baby washes, but no luck. His skin got so bad that he got a little weeping rash on his head and neck. His pediatrician recommended using Aquaphor or Lowilla soap to bathe him and Eucerin cream and that worked very well. As he got older I started using the Aveeno stuff and now he can use regular soap. I hope that helps!

Have you heard of Melaluka ( I don't know if I spelled that right). Supposedly they have a lotion that is even better than Eucerin. You should try to look it up online.

I agree that it could be a food sensitivity. It's the number one question when my sons went in for allergy testing years later. Aloe Life makes a great organic, natural aloe. Organic coconut oil and organic olive oil work wonderfully too! Try to avoid lotions with dyes and perfumes.

D. - my first son had eczema in certain areas and my ped recommended Eucerin. It is more expensive than other creams but it works well. It doesn't have perfumes. My first is now 8, and doesn't have eczema as much, but I've been using Eucerin for my second son since he was born.

You can try Eucerin or Cetaphil. Cetaphil also makes a body wash that is great to use instead of a soap-based baby wash. Several people in my family have actual skin issues and these products work great for them. You can even buy Cetaphil at Costco, which saves a lot of money. I think you can get Eucerin there too??

My 3 girls all have dry skin and we use Cetaphil which works great! We use the Cetaphil Wash also. (You can get both at Costco) We also use Aquafor for the real dry areas and during windy days. In addtion I would have your Dr. check your son out...you never know if it's an allergic reaction to something?

My suggestion would be to find out why your son is getting the dry patches, and work to remedy that way. The skin patches could be a sign that your baby's body is actually trying to eliminate toxins or chemical from the body. I would suggest making sure to use non toxic baby soaps like California Baby. I know there are others out there, but California Baby worked for me.
Baby soap products have lots of chemicals in them, and babies can get eczema when their little bodies are trying to get the chemicals out of their system.
Even baby wipes have lots of chemical. Seventh Generation makes gentle ones.

Babycenter.com sells California Baby at a good price. Whole Foods has a lot of good products as well. They can be expensive, so you can start off there and then search for the products online.

This is what worked for me with my son. It's astounding to find out what kind of chemicals go into baby products, and that there is no government agency to regulate them.

For my son, the soap even affected his breathing! It was a godsend when a mommy and me teacher did a class on chemicals. I try to pass this information along whenever I can, because it's another one of those things that no one tells us before hand.

I have a chunky 3 year old boy who had constant red, dry patches on his legs. To keep it in check I use Cetaphil. Make sure you get the cream, it's so much thicker than the lotion and stays in place and I think it's more effective. It works great for him.

My son has eczema and we use Burts Bees Baby Bee Buttermilk lotion - you can get it at Mother's. It's awesome and is one of the few lotions that he doesn't react badly with!! Good luck!!

California Baby has the best moisturizer, and it's specifically for sensitive skin and is all natural. I even use it. You can get it at Magical Child in Encinitas (and other places I'm sure, but that's where I go). We used it on both of our girls, especially my daughter who also has sensitive skin. Good luck!

i am also a first time mother concerned about the sensitivity of my baby's skin and my midwife suggested extra virgin olive oil. it has worked wonderfully from the two week mark until now and she is currently seven weeks old. let me know how it goes... other natural brands that have been recommended include aubrey organics and burt"s bees.

I use Cetaphil Cream (comes in a tub) for my daughter who had ezcema and dry skin since she was born. It works really well!

We use Eucerin Calming Cream. Both my kids have sensitive skin and mild exczema. On really bad days, I use olive oil. They were recommended by my pediatrician and are extremely gentle.

Aveeno for babies works for my little one, but if I stop using it her dry skin comes back, let me know if you find something better. thank you.

Hi, i am a mom of two--3 years and 5.5 months. both needed Aquaphor. It is a bit greasy, but works wonders.

Use pure organic coconut oil that you buy at a health food store (or even a grocery store). It has no chemicals, sinks into the skin and is really lovely. I use it on my face at night and it feels great.

although i no longer sell arbonne products i do still use their baby lotion and oil. they work great for sensitive skin. you could probably find someone locally who sells their products on craigslist

My daughter has very dry patches her doctor recommended Aquaphor, it is also good for chapped lips, scraps and scratches. My skin lady recommended it for dark circles, I love this stuff.

My nephew had the same problem. My sister tried everything. The two things that worked best for her were the Aveeno baby lotion for sensitive skin and also bathing him in baking soda. My son had some very dry and flaky spots on his legs. I tried the Aveeno and they were gone in a day. Every baby is different though. Good luck mama.

I used Cetaphyl creamon dry patches. Trader Joes has a heavy with aloe that is inexpensive and fragrance free Both are great for sensitive skin. I try to stay away from moisturizer with fragrance. I also bath my toddlers in baking soda and/or Burts milkbath. Again, stay away from fragrances. Good luck!

Many of the brands mentioned are actually full of toxic chemicals. Did you know Johnson and Johnson baby shampoo has Quarternium-15 in it, which is a cheap, toxic filler that is a formaldehyde releaser and is a cancer causing agent?!!

Try Aveeno. It was suggested by my pediatrician for my daughter when she was born 5 years ago and I've used it ever since. Our whole family uses the Aveeno products including the sunscreen.

I have been using the california babies lotion on my daughter and myself. It is very similar feeling to the lotion that I use from the plastic surgeons office that is 65$ a tube. I love it it has no sent and feels very good on my skin that I am in the process of using retin a on.

Eucerin and Vanicream are good ones. I don't know if they're kid friendly or not you should ask your dr.

When my son was 3mns old (now he is 3yrs old) he started to get red bumps on his body, although his skin was did not look dry, the doc finally said it was dry skin. At first the doc said it was a viral infection, but since it didn't go away it was dry skin. He gave me a few samples of different lotions for my son.

But, I didn't use any of them, did not want to experient with all the different kinds. So, since he was about 4mns old I have been using Soul Scents Body Butter. Its all natural and organic.

Now, I am not trying to sell you my product, just thought I would let you know what worked for my son and my husband who has extremely sensentive skin. If you would like more information please send me a private message. I will say that my son's doc is now recommending Soul Scents Body Butter and not giving out the dozen samples like he gave me. The doc and I saw a difference in my son's skin in 2 days.

burt's bees baby line has worked great for my 5 mo. old. it has immediately cleared her baby acne and eczema and usually any little bumps or rashes that appear. consider using the soap in conjunction and perhaps the lotion 2xs/day

Sounds like eczema. We have the same issues with our kids, and the best thing I've found for it is the deep moisturizing baby aveeno (dark blue cap). I also use the baby wash (also dark blue cap). Hope this helps!

Arbonne the baby care line. I love their lotion. My little guy has very sensative skin. He has red hair and very fair skin. This stuff works fantastic! they also have gentle sunscreen for their fragile skin

Eucerine Healing Ointment. They use it in the Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit. Its a little like vaseline but absorbs in to the skin. My son has bad eczema and I put it every where and it makes a big difference. It also doesn't have the alcohol in it that causes the burning when you have really dry skin. I highly recommend Alba Botanica's unscented lotion. I had a massage therapist who used it, and loved how it felt. It is a very pure lotion- we use it on our son who has very sensitive skin and it's great for everyone in the house.
I also am copying an article which came out a few days ago on Dr. Weil's website. He is good about studying natural methods of dealing with health issues, but making sure that there is scientific research to back it up. If your son has problems with infection due to the eczema down the road, it might be something to keep in your back pocket to ask your Pediatrician.

We use Cetaphil, it doesn't have any perfume, scent, etc. The doctor recommended it for babies or adults with sensitive skin.

I love the Aveno baby lotion. It works great and my daughter has sensitive skin and it doesnt irritate it at all. In fact I love it so much I use it too!

Cetaphyl is really good, and they have a cleanser too! Aquaphor is good too, but it is not really a moisturizer. It's good to put on after a bath, while still wet, to lock in the moisture.

I recommend Aveeno products. My son had dry patches when he was a baby and I switched to Aveeno shampoo and lotion and haven't had any problems since. I now have a 3 month old and use the Aveeno line as well for her. Good luck.

I experienced a similiar situation with my daughter. I used Aveeno products (bath wash, lotion, cream) and it made her rough patches disappear. The Lavendar Aveeno lotion smells good too:)

My son, myself and my sister all suffer from ezcema and we ALL use Aveeno products...my son gets patchy dryness on his back, me on my underarms and legs and my sister on her neck and hands.

Also, when my son was younger we used Gentle Naturals wash and cream for ezcema...it's great for younger ones and dailiy use.

Very often that is an indicator of a food sensitivity, before it becomes a true allergy. We use Paul Newman's organic olive oil - no waxes, etc and we never bathe our kids more than necessary. Some of my friends bathe their babies daily and have dry skin issues. Our 6 year old gets a shower nearly daily, our 2.5 year old 3-4/week and our 6 month old gets a shower with daddy 1-3/week.

Try good old vaseline. Both my daughters have issues with dry skin (borderline eczema) especially at this time of year. I rub vaseline into the dry patch and then lotion over their entire body. Also it could be from your laundry detergent. You shouldn't ever use liquid fabric softener on babies clothes and set your washer for an extra rinse cycle.

Cetaphil Lotion. It is 100% dye and fragrance free and is so wonderful. My little girl had eczema and sensitive skin and this was the best lotion ever.

Try Aveeno Baby Lotion.

Baby Aveno for excema (sp?). My daughter doesn't have excema but I thought this was a wonderful stumble upon. When she was a year or so, during the winter, often had runny nose, etc during the cold. Little ones tend to wipe their arms across their faces..well my daughter got extremely chapped checks. So, I ended up picking this up. I got it in the afternoon and when I picked her up from her daycare, I put it on her after her evening bath. The next morning the chapped, redness, dry skin was GONE!!! I began using this all through the winter and we never had a problem. If I forgot, and she got redness again, I put it on her and in the morning she would look normal again. I also used it on her legs because she has dry skin there. I think it is a miracle cream!

Try the California Baby brand. I have a friend with twins that have many allergies and very sensitive skin and they are able to use this one with no irritation. Henrys Market carries it.

Hi, I am an esthetician. I have been using organic jojoba oil for years, it is the greatest oil I have ever used. If that doesn't do the trick, try organic olive oil or organic almond oil. Mix a tiny bit of collodial silver with the application. Hopefully that will work! If it continues, you really should consult with a dermatologist.

Cetaphil is the best it was recommended by the derm. for my daughter who couldn't even use the gentle Aveeno. You can buy it anywhere and they also sell the soap.

My favorites for my daughter's extremely dry skin are Cetaphil Body Cream and on really bad days, Aquaphor. We've used it since she was a little baby. They work wonders. Also, the Cetaphil Gentle Body Cleanser is one that won't dry out baby's skin in the bath.

I just started using California Baby Calming Botanical Moisturizing Cream and Earth Mama Angel Baby Lotion...they are both organic and natural and they smell wonderful I bought them both at Amazon.com (you can buy a few California Baby items at Target)... My son has eczema and viral induced asthma I thought maybe he was allergic/sensitive to the chemicals in all the creams and lotions we were using. Today I found out he is allergic to dust mites:( I guess that means i'm cleaning this weekend....spring cleaning x100.

My Pediatrician had us use Eucerine as well. She also recommended using Dove soap when bathing baby. Now that's all we use!

use olive oil, put abt a teaspoon of it in your hands and rub them together and then rub it onto your baby's skin.

I'd go to Henry's or Sprouts or the likes and pick up an all natural moisturizer. Maybe something for eczema.

Olive oil or castor oil are both great moisturizers and have no added chemicals. They have both been used for centuries and are very healing. Make sure you are also giving your son lots of water and check for food allergies. Dairy is a big one.

Cetaphil. You can buy it at the drug store. My Dematoligist recommended and it's great. Use the cleanser.
