J.:
Have your in-laws ever been to Le Coq au Vin restaurant? It is our favorite since we've moved here (in 1991). It's casual-country French food on Orange Avenue (in between downtown and Sand Lake Road). When you are in there, you feel almost like you are going over to an aunt's house who set out extra tables for a get together. It's nice and quiet, and you can dress up, if you'd like, or come classy-casual (not our Orlando daily casual). I have been there around 20 times, and every single experience is wonderful...and everything I have ever ordered (or sampled from someone's plate...LOL) is wonderful! Louis and Magdalena Perrotte are the owners (he the chef, she will greet you and come around to make sure everything's okay) and they are so warm and welcoming. Their staff is wonderful at knowing what kind of wines to recommend or food suggestions. Remember...if you are ordering an appetizer souffle (I LOVE the gruyere souffle!!!), order it right when you are seated as the souffles take a while. If you want a dessert souffle, be sure to give them plenty of notice for the same reason (the chocolate, Grand Marnier, and Rapberry are all to die for...and the nice thing about souffles are that they are nice and light!) My all-time favorite entree (and have recommended to so very many people who always thank me for the recommmendation and it is now their favorite) is the thin slices of eggplant that is lightly fried and topped with large prawns and lump crab meat and a zesty Cajun hollandaise sauce and served with little potatoes with creme fraische and caviar and carrots (which are amazing...how do they do that to a simple carrot?!) and green beans (which I never have cared for, but everyone else says they are wonderful and eat mine...LOL)! I am so hungry for that eggplant right now!
Just wanted to throw this out there (especially since the Perrotte's are planning on retiring soon...which is such a shame to lose this award-winning Orlando classic!)
