Hello Mamas! I need some ideas.....We have a child who will be 7, and his birthday is in Dec. I am completely unsure about where to have a party. Here are the things I need to consider: weather, price (really on a budget this year), and do something different--other than a jump house party, bowling, or at the house. Would love to have ideas to think about! Thank you in advance for your help!

Hotel Pool Party!!
My babysitter's twin boys were born in Dec and she liked to rent a hotel room somewhere with a decent pool and have a pool party. You have the use of the room as well. Perhaps ask for a room near the pool. You have the flexibility of time and kids like something special like swimming in the Winter. Shouldn't be that expensive, depending on the hotel that you choose. Choose any theme you want. Perhaps get some parents agree to stay to watch the kids for safety.

Good luck!

I know you said not to have the party at the house but to keep the budget down... have it at the house and call the Critter Man or one like it and have them bring the snakes, lizzards and frogs and let the kids have a reptile party!

do reptile theme games and art projects and the boys will LOVE it!

If you need party favors, invitations or more give me a call

I glanced through the other responses & didn't see anyone mention www.birthdaypartyideas.com - this is a GREAT resource for you - the ideas are organized into different themes & the ideas range from simple & inexpensive to extravagant & over the top & everything in between. I used this site this year to do my two kid's birthday parties & they turned out better than ever! I would definitely recommend taking the time to check it out & browse through it! Good luck!

One year we had a tie dye party. The cake looked like a tie dye shirt. www.familyfun.com (p.s. they have really good ideas on that site for parties and there is instructions on the cake.)

We used acryllic paint in jugs of water so it was very diluted. You can also use koolaid. We put them in water guns. I bought a white t-shirt for each kids and told them to come with shorts, socks and shoes that were okay to get messed up. They played with the colored shooting water guns. Each shirt had a splash of different colors.

Well, this may be a party to stick in your back pocket for another time. I guess it is not warm enough to get your guests wet outside.

I have three older girls so not many parties that boys would enjoy yet - my son is only three.

My husband and I do parties also. He is a balloon artist and I am a face painter. My parents do the air-brush tattoos. Let me know if you are interested. You could use one or more of us at your party.

Check out sporting events. I took a bday group to fc dallas soccer this summer. I combined both of my girls bdays and it was great. The price was comparible to other bday packages i'v e seen and done. I had some parents go to help and gave the offer of discounted tickets to other parents and siblings. It was the best bday party ever and everyone really had a great time. They got autographs and bday packs. Great!!! Don't forget to check for events even off season.... You can get behind the scenes tours as well. Also, check the musuem... Ripleys is cool!

Wow...what great ideas from everyone! I did my daughters 7th party at the planeterium at the University of North Texas. It was one of the cheapest i have done, but most fun and educational!! It was $2-3 per child. The kids all loved it! It was cheap enough i was able to invite her whole class (although all did not come). I even had parents stay (paid their own way) because they were so interested! We let a few of the girls stay later for a sleep over and went to their night time observatory...free...and they got to see through the big tellescopes!! A very good time for a low budget...and one to remember! http://skytheater.unt.edu/

My daughter has a January birthday and we did her party at the pool at Keller Pointe. It was great! The kids were all excited to be swimming in the winter. We used the party room and it was worth it. The Pointe provides a helper and there are several options to choose from for food, cake, goodie bags, etc. They may have info on the Parks and Recreation website.

If your child is into baseball, maybe you could arrange a tour of the Frisco baseball arena for a nominal fee.

Or get a popular DVD and have a boys slumber party...campout in the backyard with adult supervision. Have each participant bring a favorite game.

Check out www.Candisno.com She is great! My son's birthday is in June and we had her come out for snow cones and when she started advertising for her snow parties we were very excited. We had her come out as a reward for good behavior and good grades! What she does is she comes out and she has accessories to make snowmen and then after that they can have a snowball fight! It is a lot of fun! And you get to choose which you would like hot chocolate or snow cones! She is very reasonable and it is a lot of fun for the kids!

Just an idea - if you are a mom of 3 and on a budget, is it really necessary to have a party? You could probably get by a LOT cheaper if you take your son and 1-2 of his closest friends out for a movie (matinee or tuesday cheap seats) and pizza. Or putt-putt (use a coupon). or the bounce house place that has open gym time on the weekends. My advice, from a mom of 4, soon to be 5, is to make sure your kids do not expect a big party every year, because you will go bankrupt. Birthdays can be celebrated in a very special unique way, making the birthday boy feel really special, without throwing a huge party.

Just wanted to make a suggestion - don't feel guilty if you don't throw a party because kids feel special if you just show them your love.

Have ou considered doing a traveling petting zoo? They will come to your house and it is arounf $150. They clean up if there are any animal messes. I am not sure if this is in your budget. You could also do theme party of something your son likes. Good luck

We are in Dec as well, so I completely understand about weather. We also are on a strict strict budget, so we're using Flips for Fun off of Keller Hicks. My son does flips every week at his school, and the teacher is wonderful!!! She has a guy teacher too if the party is mostly boys in case they don't feel comfortable with her, but she is still there (Ms. Amy). They help you decorate and clean up, so there's not much you actually have to do, and the price is really reasonable (one of the best we've found).

Now if you want to do the cleaning and stuff, Cabela's is great and has fun games for b-day parties and is super extra super cheap.

Hi H.,

I conduct "make your own" stuffed animal parties. The children stuff their own animals. I can come you your home or any location of your choice. The price would depend on the number of children. If you think you may be interested, you can find more information, as well as my contact info, at www.StuffAndLoveAnimalFriends.com.

Thanks,

Not sure how tight your budget is or where you live, but my son is dying to have a party at Summit Climbing Gym in Grapevine. It looks like it would be a "cool" party.

Since you are in Keller, you have several options nearby--

Indoor swim at The Pointe (you don't have to do a birthday package with them, just have your own at one of the tables)
Tornado Terry's Arcade--kids LOVE this place!
Ice skating @ Blue Line in NRH.

My son is 7 and the last 2 parties have been camoflauge and pirate. We had them at a school park with a covered pavilion. Pirate game - sm. wooden treasure box from Michael's filled with chocolate 'coin' candy, jolly ranchers(jewels), plastic compasses etc. We printed 7 clues each on a piece of paper. Each one led to another clue. Final clue led to the treasure box then they split the 'bootie'. Cake was chocolate sheet cake decorated with jolly ranchers, string of pearl beads,'coin' chocolate and lock shape cut out of foil.
Hope these ideas help.
Camo party - camo bandanas and parachute men party favors. Clues were given to 'rescue the parachute men'. They followed the clues to find the men in the trees, bushes, under tables, etc. They wore the bandanas at the party and had contests seeing who could fly their parachute man the farthest. Invitation - Birthday Boot Camp

I have had both of my boys birthday at the Fire Station. The kids got to play on the fire truck and the firemen talked about fire safety. They just ask for a donation. We had use of thier activity room for the cake and presents. I have also done parties at the park but that is hard with the weather.

There are very affordable hockey game packages at the Dr Pepper Star Center. My son (also 7) really loves laser tag. It's typically about $10 per person.
