I have a 7 year old son that is still wetting the bed at night. He had him on some medicine that we did not think was helping but then we took him off of it and it got worse. So we decided that it was helping. I was just wondering what you thought. Is it good to have him on the medicine? Have you had this problem before? Is there anything we can do beside's have him on medicine? How long will this last? I was just wondering if any one else has went through this or not?

What can I do next?

My son was 5 and still wetting the bed. We tried medicine and did not have very good results. We ended up using a bed wetting alarm that attached to his underwear. It is a long process, but it worked for us.

I know exactly what you are going through. At 6 and a half years old my son had NEVER had a dry night. Our pediatrician recommended trying a bedwetting alarm. Please, please check out the website www.bedwettingstore.com. We bought a complete "starter pack" here. When I read the testimonials on the website, I thought they must be exaggerating, but for us it was like a miracle. 10 weeks after starting use of the alarm our son was "cured". One of the things I loved about this product was that it came with a book completely explaining the entire process.

Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions at all!

OH my goodness, don't take meds. I was potty trained by 2 but wet the bed till I was almost 9. My parents tried everything. I just got it. I have a nephew that also wet the bed until he was like 6 or 7. It can be a lot of things. Lack of calcium, stress, psychological, etc...give it time and just never let him feel bad about it. You can try putting a plastic sheet on, then a sheet, then another plastic sheet, then another sheet, so that when he wets at night, he can just take the first sheet and plastic sheet off and have something dry to sleep in. It gets hard when he wants to do sleepovers. I know, I have been there. But email me if you have any questions. There are great options now like the larger pullups that weren't available when I was a kid. He could wear those and no one would ever know.

My son is a few years younger & he loves to watch batman before bed. Since I stopped letting him he sleeps much better. I dont know what your sons sleeping patterns are but try to make things as calm as possible and it may help/

It's very typical and normal to have bed wetting. My brother did this til age10. It's a maturity/physical thing they can't help.

If medicine is helping I'd sure use it on my own child.

I think you just need to have him wear a pullup to bed til he outgrows this. Have him be in charge of taking care of it but it's not that hard to change your pull up and dispose of it. His sheets will stay dry and it will give him some freedom of embarassment. I don't think there is a cure or quick fix it's something you just have to be patient with until he outgrows it. They have these new pull ups on the market that look like boxer shorts.

My daughter is 6 and hasn't had this problem but when she's sick with diarreha or something I put one on her just to be safe she actually doesn't mind at all because she knows she can't help it at those times and doesn't want to mess her clothing or bed. I know last winter my daughter had vomitting/diarreha for 11 days straight and I put her in pullups the entire time.

Hi P.,
My husband is a chiropractor/naturopath who has treated many kids who had a bedwetting problem. I know he has a homeopathic remedy he usually gives them. He's found that usually it's related to a food allergy they have. (Most often it's corn). You can try taking all corn products out of his diet (that includes corn syrup). If you want to know specifically what he's allergic to, you could bring him in for testing. My husband's website is www.Drelijah.com

There have been other posts about bedwetting on this site; you might want to look through past posts as there was lots of good info/ideas. As for us, we felt that it was just best to not put a lot of emphasis/guilt on it & let our daughter outgrown it. My brother & sister both were bed wetters until their early teens. My nephew is now 10 & is still having some trouble, but has improved. My daughter finally stopped with she was about 11. With her, it was clearly that she was sleeping extremely soundly, & was worse when she was over tired. My sister says the same about my nephew. Her brain/nerves just finally matured enough to control her bladder at night. We did make her responsible for changing her own bed & bathing each morning, but beyond that didn't make a big deal out of it. If she slept somewhere other than home, she used the Goodnights.

i have a son that is 7 and still does it also. one thing that is helping with my son is going to a chiropractor. he goes one to two times a month. it does help, he still has accidents but not as often. this on top of the obvious things like no drinks 1-2 hours before bedtime, use the bathroom stuff like that. we have never tried the meds, one thing the dr told us is that he could just be a sound sleeper and a smaller bladder, when his bladder catches up to the rest of him it will stop. another suggestion the dr had was to when he is peeing have him "start and stop" the flow to try to made the bladder stronger. we will also wake him in the middle of the night to go.
