My 2yr old has Tonselitis & can barely eat his throat is so sore. I've
tried putting chest rub on him,but its not helping him. So, I'm wondering if it would be safe to soak a cough drop in some water & let him drink it, since I cant let him actually eat the cough drop itself because he would choke on it?

What can I do next?

Do you have any honey? Try putting honey and lemon in a cup of warm water. It will help!

I have dissolved a cough drop in water before but kiddo refused to drink it.

Has your little one been to the doctor? Some tylenol or baby motrin will help with the pain!

I would use children's ibuprofen (it will also help with any swelling). Or Tylenol would work too. Because of his age check with your doctor on the dosage. When they are this sick, sometimes the quality of the food doesn't matter as much as keeping them hydrated. It doesn't matter how sick my girls are, they will always eat a chocolate milkshake.

I might go back to the dr if he is in that much pain.

cold things might be easier to eat that warm things. and soft foods too.

I doubt that cough drop water would help him in any noticeable way. His tonsils are swollen and very sore. I've had tonsillitis many times and cough drops did not help. In fact they cause more pain because I had to swallow more.

If you're not giving him acetaminophen or motrin, do give him one of those. Unfortunately there is not much you can do for tonsillitis. I think it's a virus, tho you could call the advice nurse to be sure.

Putting chest rub on him is also not going to help with the tonsillitis. It's his tonsils that hurt. Chest rub only helps with breathing if he also has nasal congestion.

I don't know about that, but there are some spray throat lozenges that you can get. That way he doesn't have to swallow, you just have him open his mouth and spray! I'll warn you that my GD says it tastes horrible so you might only get him to open up once! Other than that, tylenol or motrin are my only other suggestions.

I would think something like otter pops would feel good on his throat.
