Need a Good Personal Pediatrician in New Tampa Area

I also recommend Teena Hughes, MD...I like Dr. Arana but the person who owns the practice..Dr. Kolb...I don't find competent

Dear F., Can't help with the Pediatrician recommendation but I am Australian also and moved to the USA almost 4 years ago now. We originally were in Orlando and have been in the Tampa area for about 18 months. I still take my kids back to Orlando for their checkups after trying a couple of pediatricians Tampa. My kids are just about to turn 4 and 2 and I am expecting another baby in December. Would you like to meet one day down at the International Mall kids play area?

I would definitely recommend our pediatrician, Dr Erwin Shartz. He practices at Healthpoint Pediatrics in Westchase. Here is a link to their office:

Not only is he a great doctor, the staff there are really nice.

I know it is not really close to your house, but it beats Sarasota.

We use Dr. Masterman at My Pediatrics on Bruce B. Downs. Number is ###-###-####. I have co-workers that use Dr. Hoyos at that same practice. The doctors do all shots and return all calls personally. They're open on weekends, too.

Dr Grover at Lutz Pediatrics is excellent! They can always get you in & are sooooo nice. You can tell the doc really cares about each child.

Our pediatrician is part of a large group...Healthpoint Medical Group...but don't let that scare you off. My daughter sees Anthony Gomes at the Grand Plaza location (on Dale Mabry just south of Bearrs), and I cannot say enough good things about him. He ALWAYS spends so much time with her/us and NEVER makes me feel rushed. He is VERY accessible. I'm actually able to speak directly to him on the phone, even in the middle of the day when he is seeing patients, without having to wait a lengthy amount of time for a return call. I definitely feel like he and his nurse, Anika, take the time to really know my daughter and remember the little details from visit to visit. I will be honest and say that there are times when our wait in the waiting room and/or exam room are a little lengthy, but I know it is because Dr. Gomes spends so much time with his patients that it is easy to get behind schedule sometimes. He really tries to keep things on time. We love him so much that I just figure running behind schedule is something I'm willing to tolerate...the payoff is a doctor who really gets to know his patients, spends a lot of time with them and makes you feel like he really cares...he's not just rushing from one patient to the next.

I know you said you were looking for someone in the New Tampa area and he is really located in the Carrollwood area, but if you live in Lake Magdalene you're actually pretty close to his office. We live in New Tampa and I'm happy to go the little extra distance.

I take my daughter to Lutz Pediatrics. Her dr. is Dr. Sanjeev Grover - he's awesome, answers all my questions (this is my first baby, she's 6 weeks old), very thorough. His nurse staff is great, too. He's told me that if his patients ever have a little emergency after hours, and if he's still in the area, he will go back and open the office to examine them. We have a fantastic pediatrician, her name is Martha Acevado and she is part of My Pediatrics. The practice is 3 pediatricians, they are open on Saturday and Sunday and I have always been able to get a same day appointment. They are located off Bruce B Downs in the shopping with Circuit City, LNT, Michaels, etc.

My daughter is 8 months old and I am so happy with this group. Dr. Acevado always knows who we are and knows my daughter by name. I am also very pleased with how through she is and the attention to details. I am very pleased.

I highly recommend Michael Gaynor. He is listed in the phone book. He is quite busy, but still - an awesome Pediatrician.

I also use My Pediatrics in New Tampa. We see Dr. Arana and she is wonderful also. She is young, has young children. She is only there on Mondays, Wednesdays, & Fridays. I love that there open weekends too. I can't tell you how many "Friday night fevers" my son has had! It's not a far drive just don't make your appointments too early or too late. Traffic stinks at peak times.

My son goes to Teena Hughes, MD, on Fletcher just past the University. She has been his primary pediatrician since he was born almost 6 years ago. I moved three years ago to Palm Harbor and she was a bit far, but after unsucessful attempts at finding a practice I liked on the west side of Tamap, I started him back when her this winter. She knew who he was the minute we walked it! Very nice staff, usually no difficulties getting in and she was very patient with me as a new mom who suddenly found herself a single parent when my son was a few monthes old.

I'm with several Moms here... Healthpoint is an awesome group! After hours care available (always a good thing to know!) since some scary stuff usually only happens after 5pm... (vomit, fever ect)
Dr. Gomes and Dr. Mendez really DO spend time with each and every one of us and NEVER rush us. WELL worth the wait! Dr. Gomes even met sure he'd meet me at the office when my youngest has chicken pox at 9 months old!!! They have uber patience for all of our questions & never laugh or seem the LEAST bit put out.. even at 3am with an emergency call.

I'm not sure where Lake Magdalene is, so not sure how close this is to you, but I live in New Tampa and take my 16 month old twin boys to Dr. Wilde- Pediatric Healthcare Alliance. He is located at Bruce B Downs and SR54. I love him!
