Neck Rash Help

I was wondering if anyone has experience with this sort of thing and what I should do about it.
I am away from home/country and so a long wait somewhere random for treatment is not really on my list.

Baby's neck rash looks like this:

little red bumps...tiny pimples...all around her neck..not on chest or anywhere else. doesn't seem to bother her.
I haven't fed her anything she hasn't already eaten when we were home. I thought maybe it was from laundry. Her uncle used an unscented dryer sheet on her stuff. It was washed with sensitive detergent though. That was a week ago. I was waiting for it to clear up but it hasn't. My ped and I have been playing phone tag.

So, keep it clean obviously. Cornstarch to keep dry?

She has been teething (2 on bottom!). Could it be related? She gets pink cheeks too, now and then.

Hmmm...advice?

Thank you all

It sounds like it could be irritated skin from heat or something her clothes were washed in.

If it doesn't spread, doesn't itch & there aren't any other symptoms (like a high fever) a little Aveeno oatmeal bath would feel nice and just keep the area dry & cool.

If a high fever breaks out (104 or 105) it could be roseola. This usually is benign, it's a red, bumpy rash on the chest & neck & there is a high fever. It lasts about 7 days & then goes away as fast as it came on. It's a virus.

Hi E.,
My son who is teething has experienced the same thing because of drooling. His neck gets very red and almost looks raw. I put Aquaphor on it and it seems to help. Good luck!

Could be prickly heat. Keep it cool and dry.

Is she drooling a lot? With my son, when he was teething, he drooled a lot and this happened too. I just kept him as dry as possible and put some diaper rash cream on his neck. I never tried cornstarch so I don't know if that will work.

it could just be a heat rash...my son gets heat rash all the time. sometimes it spreads to his chest, but usually it's just on his neck. I would check with the ped just in case though.

Is she drooling? Could be irritation from the saliva. I would not use powder or corn starch, too close to her mouth if she inhales the powder, could make it hard for her to breathe. If you think it may be from the drool (if she is drooling) just try to keep it dry and clean. Have you tried a free clinic search or a immediate care center. Does you Ped have a collegue in the area that might do he/she a favor? Or call a local ped and explain the situation? Just some suggestions. Good Luck

Sounds like simple skin sensitivity to heat and moisture. Keep the area clean by wiping with a soft wet cloth daily. Apply Aquaphor and if that does not work for her, get some over the counter hydrocortisone cream. Do not use powders (cornstarch). It may irritate more. Also, diaper rash cream may be too harsh for that area of the body. From-a mom who went through 2 babies with VERY sensitive skin.

It sounds like prickly heat. If so, you're right--keep the area clean and dry. Dress her in loose, breathable clothes to avoid sweating, which will make it worse.
Hope it clears up soon!
