My son, 2yrs 3 mons has been telling me his "peepee" hurts. When I look at it all looks fine and normal. I have noticed that his diaper is wet/warm after he says it so I think it is an infection. Do any of you know a natural way to treat a urinary track infection?

You can use cranberry to prevent UTI's but once you get one its too late - cranberry can help keep it from getting worse, but you need antibiotics to clear up the infection. I take cranberry every day as a precaution, especially now that I am pregannt again, because during my last pregnancy I got a UTI and within 2 days of the first signs of it it had moved up to my kidney and was EXCRUCIATINGLY PAINFUL. Regular antibiotics did nothing but mask some of the painful symptoms while the infection continued to get worse... I ended up in the hospital for 2 days getting twice the regular dosage of antibiotics through the IV in order to knock out the infection. And then they KEPT me on antibiotics for the last two months of my pregnacy as a preventative measure. Yeah - NOT FUN, and these can get serious fast, so your best bet would be to go get him checked out to be sure.

You should NOT try to treat a UTI with natural methods. It is an INFECTION. Needs to be diagnosed and cared for with anti-biotics. You can however PREVENT, or HELP PREVENT UTI's by using cranberry and bilberry supplements. I take one every day and I'm really prone to them. The last one I had my doc said that it is vital to get into the office and get checked, treated and maintain my supplements. And yes, I've waited and had one spread back through my system to my kidneys. That was hell. Don't wait. If your little guy is hurting in any way TAKE HIM IN!! You are so lucky to have a 2 year old that can talk and express himself well enough to tell you. A lot of them can't.

After I got married, I managed to get a really bad, recurring UTI that was resistant to antibiotics. What I finally ended up using was d-mannose powder, a natural remedy. I was skeptical and a little nervous using it at first, but I had tried antibiotics, diet, garlic, cranberry juice and supplement pills, and I was ready to try anything.
It works great - you just put some in some water or juice and drink it up. I would put my daily dose in my water bottle and sip it throughout the day. It got rid of my infection in less than a week, and it helped reduce pain within a day. It is safe for kids and pregnant women. You can order it online or buy it at natural food stores like Good Earth; I've sometimes seen it at vitamin supplement stores, too.
I found a website that explains how it works, so check it out: http://www.remedy-bladder-infection.com/mannose.html
If you suspect that your child has a urinary tract infection please take him to see his doctor. And do not be afraid to give him antibiotics to treat it if that is what his doctor prescribes, an untreated (or wrongly treated) UTI can lead to a serious kidney infection that can require many painful procedures to correct. I know this from personal experience, I had a series of UTIs as a child and developed a pretty bad kidney infection, I had to take medicine every day for years and see specialists every month. It is SO much better to jsut take care of the problem now tha to let it get worse because you want a "natural" solution.
As a Nutritional Herbologist I would recommend rubbing garlic oil externally over his bladder and kidney areas, but not on his genitals. Drinking cranberry juice is good and parsley leaf tea is great. I would have him drink at the very least 1/2 cup three times per day of which ever one you can get him to drink, or both if he will. Have him drink tons of pure water, not tap water, until you have this cleared up. Keep a cup of water available all day long for him to be sipping at. There is a Kidney Formula made by the Dr. Christopher company that comes in a liquid extract. You should add 1/2 a dropper of this to 1/2 cup of water three times per day. There is also a formula just for the male urinary tract, unfortunately this only comes in pill form. You could try emptying the contents of one pill three times per day into a small amount of apple sauce to see if he will eat it. If you can get him to take all of this you should see the issue clear up quickly.
One thing you need to know, when you are treating illnesses naturally, you need to be aggressive in the treatment. You can't give him a pill once a day and expect him to get better. Also, keep him on a diet based on fresh, plant-based foods. Stay away from animal products and processed foods for the time being, as these tend to cause toxic buildup in the body. Apples are a great source of nutrition and would be a great food for him right now, if he likes apples that is. Also, you MUST keep him hydrated, especially if you are outside.
If you can't find garlic oil you can make it by roughly cutting or smashing several cloves of garlic, place them in a pint jar (you don't need to fill the jar, just make what you will need), and covering them, plus one inch, with olive oil. Let that sit for four days, preferably in a dark, cool place, shaking it and letting out any pressure build up at least three times per day. After the four days, strain out the garlic and keep the oil. This oil is great to treat any infections, both internally and externally but only use it externally.
To make parsley tea you just get some dry parsley, place about a tsp. in a tea ball and place the tea ball in a mug, pour boiling water over the tea ball until the mug is full, let it sit for 15 min., take out the tea ball and add a small amount of honey (not sugar) if you would like to sweeten it. You can then let it cool to a good drinking temperature. You could also make a large batch of it and keep it in the fridge if you would like.
You won't find anything "natural" to treat it. Also, if it is an infection it won't go away on it's own.
A diaper being wet/warm wouldn't really make me think my son had a urinary tract infection. Is he ready for potty training and this is his way of showing you he doesn't like to be wet?
If you can get him to drink pure cranberry juice about 3 or 4 times a day it will stop it.
We just went through with my 4 year old daughter..the doctor recommended Cranberry and Orange Juice as a prevention because it makes the urine more acidic and kills the bacteria that cause the infection as far as treating it if that is what he has i would recommend taking him in for antibiotics it was the only thing that worked for my daughter..and being that young they might want to do an ultrasound of his kidneys to make sure all is ok..(they did the same with my 4 year old and it went well!) ;)
Look into Grapefruit Seed Extract. It's great and used for UTIs and yeast infection cures. I use it to make a natural fuit and veggie wash. You can get a bottle at Natural Grocers for about $8. A few drops in a glass of water multiple times a day is really helpful.
You can get D-mannose in capsule form and mix it with cranberry apple juice. This is the chemical in cranberries that helps clear the infection. It has worked for my little boy.

prior to it becoming a full infection you can treat with cranberry juice (not cocktail, but 100% juice) once the infection is there though I think he will need to see a doc. it can get really bad if left untreated. they just have urine collected in a cup and run a test it is pretty simple and straight forward. if there is an infection they will start to treat it right away with an antibiotic and I would recommend starting your child on daily yogurt to build up good probiotics in the system. even if it isn't a full infection his body is fighting it off--there is a feeling I get before the infection sets in so I start on cranberry juice and supplements (not okay for a kid though as previously stated) and the yogurt. I rarely have to go on antibiotics for them anymore unless I don't treat it quickly enough then there is nothing to do but go to the doc.
where is is a simple pee test I think taking him in would be the first step. if it isn't an infection then start on the cranberry juice and make sure it doesn't become an infection.
also have you changed soaps or anything recently that could be causing a reaction? just a thought
I had a urinary tract infection and I learned quickly that it isn't something you want to play around with. I'm all about the natural but mine went from my bladder to my urinary tract to my kidneys in 2 days. Ended up in the hospital thinking I had kidney stones. VERY PAINFUL! I would take him to the dr and get antibiotics.

I get UTI's pretty regularly. First I would check with your doctor. When I feel one coming on I drink Cranberry juice. Down side to that is there is tons of sugar in that so I try to find the 100% cranberry from Langers. Doesn't taste too bad either. I know they have cranberry pills (AZO) but I don't think they are recommended for young children. I have also heard that you can mix a tablespoon of baking soda in a large glass of water and drink it. I did it, and it was like drinking salt water. (yeah there was no cranberry juice in the house) It worked from what I could tell, but I am sure it whacks out your electrolyte balance so I wouldn't recommend that one either.
lots of water and cranberry juice
