Natural Birth/Hypnobirthing

I'm wondering if anyone has found a good doctor and/or nurse midwife who is respectful of natural birthing. I've found some good doctors, but so many look at me like I'm crazy when I say I want to deliver naturally and almost always say to keep an open mind about pain relief. I have a doctor now that I like, but I don't know how he'll be at the actual delivery. I'll be delivering at Banner Gateway (my baby's due Dec. 5th). Has anyone had an experience with a labor and delivery nurse there who is comfortable with natural birth? I love the hypnobirthing philosophy (although I haven't taken any classes) and tried it with my previous two deliveries, and really want my labor/delivery assistants to be calm and helpful this next time.

What can I do next?

I see Dr. Brass at Center for True Harmony and Wellness. She delivers at Gateway. She is all about the natural childbirth. I used the Bradley Birth method and had my unmedicated birth. Be sure and mke a birth plan with your wishes and make sure all the nurses read it. Dr. Brass was 8 months pregnant when I was due and I she said she would get on the floor with me if she needed too. She was fantastic.

You could try Dr. Brass-Jones or Dr. Kells (who works with a nurse midwife, Janice Bovee). I don't know if they deliver at Banner Gateway. Have you considered a homebirth? We have a great community of professional homebirth midwives are supportive of natural birth. Blessings!

I went to Banner, and although I did have an epidural, I was not pushed into it by the staff. They were very calm and kind, and when I asked for the epidural, they didn't just rush off and get me one, they made sure that I was sure about it first. I guess I'm just a wimp! Anyway, I don't think you'll have any trouble with the assistants. Congratulations on your new little one!

I have to echo what some of the other moms said. Dr. Brass is the best. She has a review on this site if you look up The Center.

I have an appointment with Dr. Brass's office on Friday and called to ask the receptionist if she has experience with hypnobirthing. (I'm strongly considering it.) She said she did, than many moms opt for it. I'm just hoping we click because she seems to be highly recommended. The one question I have and would maybe pose to her is about her rate of induced labors. There was one complaint on the web about it seeming like she tried to push inductions, and from what I've heard, that can interfer some with hypnobirthing.

She does deliver at Banner Gateway.

By the way, if you're considering taking the courses, there's one person on the hypnobirthing.com website that might do a reduced rate of around $200 if 4 or more couples could combine into a group. Just a thought. Dropping $300-$350 for the course is not an easy task for us. Private Message me if you want to see if it's plausible.
