Hi my name is C. and I live in St.Louis Mo and I had my son last week at St.John Hospital and he was 5 week early and weighs 4 1/2 pounds I wanst ready for him to come yet and im having a hard time finding preemie clothes for him to wear that I can afford I have 3 kids already and my husband works long hours but money is still tight if any one might have any ideas let me know. This has been the worst week of my life going through all of this mainly by my self my husband had to go back to work on friday and I had him th 18th wednesday and he is still in the NICU he hasnt been able to even see him he work 12 hour shift and cant afford to take off right now.My children are 3 girl 2 boy and 10 boy and they dont understand why they cant see thier brother. My world is turned upside down
sleep sacks baby! sleep sacks! but I agree with previous poster on keep the clothes at home...the hospital will cover him! (literally!) and he might be under bili lights too so then he'd be naked anyway. but sleep sacks (gowns) were soooooo efficient for my 4 pounder!

I had a preemie that was 4 pounds 10 ounces in July. I did not buy preemie clothes but rather newborn (5 to 8 pounds). Target and Wal-mart have a lot for a reasonable price.

Hi C.!
I had preemie twins and triplets. I found the best place to buy preemie clothes was Walmart. They are the cheapest place too. My babies were all in the NICU for 4 weeks. Believe me, it does get better. Don't give up hope and just take one day at a time or you will stress yourself out, then you will be no good to anyone, so remember to take care of yourself too! Good luck and I hope you find those clothes.

I also had a preemie. My son is now 8 months old but I remember how hard it was. I looked online. If you google preemie clothes there are several different sites. They are a little pricey but I have caught stuff on sale and they are great! And if you need to talk please let me know. Making friends with the other parents in the NICU helped me. They are going through the same things and can help reassure you. The other piece of advice I have is to not buy a ton of preemie clothes. Even preemies grow out of stuff really fast! I will keep your little guy in prayer and your family as well. I hpe this helps you!

Hi, my sister had her son VERY early as well. He only weighed 1 pound 8 ounces. So he was in the nicu for about the first 6 months of his little life. I dont even think they wear clothes while still in the nicu, you might want to ask the dr or nurses on that on. Atleast that will give you some time on that on. As far as when he gets out of the nicu, I know walmart has premie clothes and they are pretty cheap...and cute...!!! My sistes little boy had to wear what they call micro premie clothes for the longest time. I can check with her to see if maybe she has any premie clothes to get rid of. Hang in there, and just think you now have a miracle baby!!! My sisters little boy just had his first birthday in September and he is doing really good and he only started out at 1 pound!!! My email is ____@____.com if you are interrested in some premie clothes.

Hi C.,
I have 19 month old twins that were 7 weeks early. We also were in the NICU at St. Johns........those nurses are amazing!!!! I had bought some preemie stuff at walmart, but they grew out of them almost as fast as I bought them. I would just go with your reg. newborn sizes.....your little man will grow faster then you can blink an eye.
Good Luck and God wishes, S.

I myself had preemie twins at 28weeks the NICU is scary and frustating also but just know the nurse's and Doctors are there for also and its hard to talk to other parents since they are worried about their own child but I did find it nice to talk to other parents that were going thru the samething as we were. I found clothes at Walmart and Kmart and Sears I didnt spend alot on the preemie clothes since at first in the NICU they couldn't wear them so ask your doctor and nurse's if your son can wear clothes yet or when they think he will be able to. IF you just need to talk or have any questions let me know my email is ____@____.com. I will keep your family in my prayes.

I know another mother that has a little one at the same hospital as you. Her mother lives near us and she told me that her daughter got some homemade preemie clothes. I think the nurses told her about a place to get them pretty cheap. I would check with the nurses. My youngest son was born five weeks early, but was only in the NICU for 9 days. It was a very hard 9 days. We had three other children at home and my husband had to return to work quickly also. My kids were only allowed to watch from the window of the NICU until the day before he came home. I am so sorry you have to go through this, but know that God is in control. Lean on him for support and guidence. I will pray for you and your family. Stay strong and don't feel guilty about not being able to do everything for everyone.....it will all fall in place soon. Much love, C.

Ok I dont know exactly where you are in St. Louis but call the WIC office nearest you and ask to speak to a nurse they are very helpful. Also if you would like to email me I have a egg crate full of preemie boy clothes that I am getting ready to get rid of that I could send to you. I have a home daycare and the kids used them for baby doll clothes but they have not played with babies in a long time so I graduated them to barbies now and am getting rid of the baby stuff. Also try Freecycle.org I am a memeber of the springfield, IL chapter and wow they are great. I know there is one for St. Louis. How it works is you join the group and then you get emails about things that people are getting rid of for free no strings attached alot of the time you just have to go pick it up. They just want to keep things out of the land fills that is still useable. I have clothes for my son till he is 3t's thanks to the great people of freecycle. Best of luck:) and keep faith God does answer prayers.

Hi, C.. I had a 3-1/2 pounder. I know how hard it is with him still in NICU and you at home. I was very sick when I had mine. I was pre-eclamptic and sick for weeks after so going to the hostpital was a blur. As far as preemie clothes goes, I lucked out and found a preemie clothing store at a very expensive shopping mall. The brand was "MY Baby" if I remember correctly. I wonder if you could do an online search and maybe even buy them over the internet. If you need any help or advice through this preemie time, I have been there and am very experienced in what to expect. Just email me and we can chat. Good luck and God bless, S.

oh honey. be so happy that you have 4 wonderful children and a supporting husband to boot. The little things will fall into place. and clothes are one of them. You need to focus on getting your precious son home to his family will he will thrive. He will be just fine and so will you. As far as the clothes go, wal mart carries some premeie and if you have a target they also do. Heck just put him in baby gowns if you have to. You just relax about the little things and concentrate on the big things like the love that you have for your family. Congrats on your new addition and God bless you.

Hi C.,
I had a baby boy 10 weeks early in June. I know what you are going through. The NICU is a very scary place but it is the best place for your son right now. We staying in the NICU for 5.5 weeks and I have to tell you the only way I got through it was through prayer and the wonderful staff. Although it is hard, just remember that all of your children need you to stay positive right now. Remember that God only gives us what we can handle although that is hard to handle sometimes. I can look and see what I still have for preemie clothes if you are interested. Just email me if you are or if you just need someone to talk to!!! My email address is ____@____.com I will be thinking of you and your family!

My daughter was also 4-1/2 lbs but she was born 8 weeks early. I remember how tough it was leaving her in the hospital for 5 weeks and the emotional and stressful time it was and I didn't even have other children. You might want to check with the NICU to see if there is a support group for you. I will pray for you and your family. It will get better. My daughter will be 5 in December and is doing great!

Hello, congrats on the baby boy...things will be fine. I was there over 2 years ago. I had a girl born 31 weeks at 4lbs 3oz. Take advantage of the NICUPS support group. It is wonderful. If you want or need to talk I am a member of the group and would love to talk to you and offer you support anyhow I can. I know it is hard to deal with on all levels, good luck and God bless.
About the cloths, try a resale store, Once upon a child and I know Walmart has a ton of Preemie cloths, at least alot more since I had mine, and they are reasonably priced. They get big quick, don't worry or buy to much before you know it they will fit into 0-3. Don't forget, try to get snap up and not to much zipper because of wires it makes it easier if he is still on monitors. Good luck please let me know how he is doing.

I have seen preemie clothes @ wal-mart, i havent seen hardly ____@____.com you signed up with Nurses for Newborns? Since you baby is preemie you would be a good canidate Its a service that a Nurse comes to your house once a month and checks the baby out and answers any questions you may have and it is TOTALLY FREE!!! I heard about them on OPRAH and I checked around because I had my little girl a year ago and she had major heart problems (Tetrology of Fallout* its not pronounced fallout)anyway Nurses for Newborns will help you get clothes and diapers and whatever you need. You can also look on ebay, I took a quick peek while i was answering and i found several lots of preemie clothes of 10 pcs or more up for auction! Congratulations on your new addition, sounds like there are mixed emotions as I can imagine. Maybe he will gain some weight before he comes home and will be able to wear the newborn clothes. I am sure that there are goodwill stores or second hand stores there, sometimes people take brand new items there, I saw that someone else suggested ebay as well, I would also encourage you to check that out. Go ahead and use the newborn clothes, just pin the pants around the waist in the back if necessary and roll up pants and sleeves he will eventually fit into them. Hang in there take care of the kiddos at home and just explain to them that their brother came a little before he was supposed to and that the dr's are making sure that everything is alright with him and that he will be home soon!! If you need someone to talk to just let me know!! S.

I know what you are going through. My son was born at 23 weeks weighing only 1 pound 6 ounces and he was in the NICU at St Johns for 4 months. Please know you are not alone, and if it helps, I kept a blog that chronicled our time in the NICU and how he has done since then. Just click on Jackson's Journey at www.geocities.com/goobersmoochx3. Please know that once your baby gets out of the NICU, the time he spent in there will be such a distant memory you will forget how hard it was, I promise. Walmart has very inexpensive preemie clothes, but while your son is in the hospital, I wouldn't take clothes up there. If he spits up or his diaper leaks, they will take the clothes off of him and you may never see them again. They have clothes up there they can dress him in. Believe me, he will get excellent care at St Johns. My son did.
