Hi Mamas!

I've been going to a chiropractor for about 2 months now (3 days a week) and my lower back still hurts! My chiropractic insurance is now OUT....so, I'm going to go check out Genesis Spine Assoc and see if they can help me. They do a free consultation and spinal decompression (which my insurance may cover). Does anyone have any experience with Genesis or with Spinal Decompression? I don't know much about either one. I just want to get my back normal again and start doing my normal daily routines! Any help, advice, suggestions, etc are SOOO MUCH appreciated!!!

Thanks,
A.

What can I do next?

I did the same thing as you -- I had back pain for several years, got sick of it and started going to a Chiropractor. I had mentioned the pain to an old primary care physician of mine and didn't get much help, so I didn't go to my new doctor with the problem -- just went straight to the Chiropractor. They did all sorts of x-rays and told me how out of align my spine was etc. After about one month's treatment I actually felt worse, not better and was considering some of the same options you were, but decided to go to my regular doctor to discuss it first. He described my pain perfectly and told me he thought I had a bulging disc. He actually felt the Chiropractic adjustments (while good for me) could be keeping the disc inflamed and suggested that I quit going for awhile and take anti-inflamatory medication for about a month (that's how long he said it would take to feel better). Sure enough at the end of the month the pain was gone. I can't know for sure that it's a bulging disc without an MRI but the medication and the exercises my doctor gave me have really helped -- no further treatment needed. I will probably go back to a Chiropractor at some point, to work on spine allignment but will wait for funds to replenish before I do that! Hope this helps -- I realize you may not have the same problems as I did, but it's worth a shot before getting into another expensive treatment plan.

Have you had an MRI done to make sure you don't have a disc problem?

Chiropractor is good to have you come three times a week, depending apon how long it has been since you last saw one it will take a while for your back to get re-aligned. Give it more time before you do something invasive. It took 6 months for me after not seeing one for many years. Now I feel great. Also make sure he is a good chiropractor you might not be seeing the right one. But if he did xrays before hand you should get another set done so you can see your progress. Also seeing a massage therapist whilst going makes a huge difference.

Have you seen your Primary Care doctor in addition to a chiropractor? There are many causes of lower back pain, some injury/muscle related, others related to serious illnesses.

Unless you've had a distinct change in your physical activity or an injury, it may be wise to see your doctor to rule out some other causes.

Good luck.

Anytime a chiropractor tells you to come 3xweek, I would be suspicious. Next time, try Dr. Mark Zuber at Plano Physical Medicine. He is awesome. ###-###-####
In the mean time, try alternating hot and cold packs on the area.
