I did the same thing as you -- I had back pain for several years, got sick of it and started going to a Chiropractor. I had mentioned the pain to an old primary care physician of mine and didn't get much help, so I didn't go to my new doctor with the problem -- just went straight to the Chiropractor. They did all sorts of x-rays and told me how out of align my spine was etc. After about one month's treatment I actually felt worse, not better and was considering some of the same options you were, but decided to go to my regular doctor to discuss it first. He described my pain perfectly and told me he thought I had a bulging disc. He actually felt the Chiropractic adjustments (while good for me) could be keeping the disc inflamed and suggested that I quit going for awhile and take anti-inflamatory medication for about a month (that's how long he said it would take to feel better). Sure enough at the end of the month the pain was gone. I can't know for sure that it's a bulging disc without an MRI but the medication and the exercises my doctor gave me have really helped -- no further treatment needed. I will probably go back to a Chiropractor at some point, to work on spine allignment but will wait for funds to replenish before I do that! Hope this helps -- I realize you may not have the same problems as I did, but it's worth a shot before getting into another expensive treatment plan.
