My Grubby Refrigerator

Anyone have any tips on keeping smudges, finger prints and water stains off a stainless steel refrigerator? No matter how often we clean it, it always looks a mess. It's driving me crazy. We've tried all the wipes and sprays. They work until you touch it again. Any tips or tricks I am missing?
TIA!

What can I do next?

you're not missing anything, its a high maintenance finish like white floors and black granite counter tops. Everyone i know who owns them including myself will never have stainless steal again if we have a choice.

The problem with all those sprays and oily coatings is that you all will touch it and then touch the food! Not a good idea. (To clean the inside, I use baking soda and water - I know that's not what you asked, but I'm suggesting it as a safe cleanser to use in contact with food.)

Either ignore it, sell the refrigerator or buy a bunch of magnets and cover it with the kids' artwork!

There is some actual stainless steel cleaner for these refrigerators. We have one and I use it maybe once a week. It works pretty good. We have Menards here and if you don't have that another large home store would direct you to it. It's not greasy or anything. Cleans almost like window cleaner. I have to go hunt up the name so if I find it I will edit my answer.

Sell it on ebay and buy a new one. My Mom had a refrig and freezer built-ins when they built their home in 1963. A total PIA, no matter what they have finger prints ect.

Frig magnets don't work on stainless steel, to the gals that recommended that one.

Every time I do the dishes, I wipe the handles of the frig and the surrounding areas down. Oh well, smudges and all, it's the most I'm willing to do.

isn't stainless steel pretty?
but so impractical.
get a new fridge, cover this one up with fridge magnets, or resign yourself.

In the restaurant we always used a product called Sheila Shine on the stainless. It was kind of oily, like Armour All.

The guy at the store who sold us our microwave told us they used Windex (or was it Pledge) wipes for all surfaces. Guess that wasn't very helpful Good luck!

I read in Cooks magazine that the best thing they found in their testing was Method all-purpose cleaning spray in Lavender. Since it just so happens that I have some, I tried it, and it works! No streaks. The only thing is, the smudges are inevitable. I have to clean the front of my fridge every day or it looks horrible. It's alarming to me to think that my old fridge was this dirty, and I just couldn't see the smudges because it was white instead of stainless?! Ick.

I clean houses for a living and have decided that I will NEVER EVER own a stainless steel fridge. It is very hard to maintain and keep clean. If it were me, I would buy a new one. If you're not in a position to make that type of purchase, maybe you could somehow hang a microfiber cloth on or near the fridge and wipe down any smudges/water stains immediately once you see them. The problem is, if you leave them there too long, they'll eventually stain the steel and it can be next to impossible to get it completely clean.

Good Luck!
