My Garbage Disposal Smells

Does anyone have any products that will get the smell out of my garbage disposal. I have noticed for the past few days it really stinks. I run it daily, I have poured bleach in it, baking soda, natures remedy. Nothing seems to work. I am hoping tht it isnt my pipes. The sinks run fine and I never let anything sit in the disposal. any help would be appreciated. Thanks and have a wonderful day.

What can I do next?

Vinegar and Baking soda work perfectly. If you can take the rubber thing off that's right at your sink it's a little easier, but you don't have to. Just pour baking soda and then pour a little vinegar and let it sit for a little while. Don't put too much vinegar, though. Just enough that you can hear it bubbling. Then after a few minutes, just run some hot water, and you may even want to run the disposal.

FYI We used to use lemons (and we still put them down there anytime we have them), but they really only mask the odor for a brief period of time.

i had the same prob and nothing worked! than i took the black rubber thing out right on top and like opened the "folds"....and that was where the smell was coming from. once i cleaned that real good with just soap and a scrub brush, no more smell. so now, i clean it about once a week. this has taken away the awful smell! good luck

I know this sounds simple, but put ice cubes in it and run the disposal. This is a trick of many plumbers.

Lemons and ice and salt......

Have you tried to open the catch thing and make sure something isnt stuck in there?

I bought this stuff called Disposer Care. I think I bought it at Wal Mart. You run a little hot water like a trickle and put this packet in your garbage disposal and turn on your diposal and it cleans it out. I have used a couple of times and it has cleaned it very well. The mystery smell has been gone for awhile.

try some lemons or other citrus and run it a long time. Run the water even longer afterwards. This usually helps ours. If not, maybe you have something going on in your pipes like a clog of grease, etc. that's making it smell further down from the garbage disposal. I know Home Depot and Lowes carry this stuff to help clean the pipes. It's not like Drano, but something else. You might try asking them if you can't get any relief.
