if i wear glasses that are too strong the same thing happens to me. i see a 'bump' in front of me and stagger trying to adjust.

this will also give me a headache.

i'm a bit confused myself over the 'all kinds of tests done.' what tests?

it just sounds to me as if her glasses need to be adjusted.

Well it sounds like there is an issue with her new glasses. If she doesn’t see “steps” when they are not on, then the problem must be with the glasses. Obviously, you had her eyes checked otherwise she would not have gotten glasses. This is a great question for your daughter’s doctor though.

Has she always worn glasses and this is just a stronger rx? Is this her first time wearing glasses? I'd say your first thing to check out is to make sure the glasses are correctly made to her prescription and if they are then the physician should recheck her eyes to make sure that rx was correct to begin with. If everything checks out then its just a matter of getting use to looking through the lenses because looking over or under will offer a distorted view of the world.

My hubby has astigmatism and has had issues with glasses over the years. One time the lens was not made correctly so when he'd look at a straight line it would appear to bend.

Not sure what you mean - can you elaborate? If today was the first day she had a problem and seeing steps/head hurt, but she's had all kinds of test done - when were the tests done and why?

Not following.

I have worn glasses a long time. It takes a while for my eyes to adjust to a new prescription. Sometimes I'll want to take an extra step (or not!) on stairs. It's if I look down - it's kind of wearing bifocals. The change from distance (lens to regular view) is distorting. That's what I experience.

*That goes away over time (your eyes adjust). Sometimes I still get it at times but you become aware and don't notice it.

I'm not sure what type of tests that she's had done. If today was the first day she had the problem, then when did she have testing done?

If she has new glasses and she suddenly has headaches and the ground looks uneven, then the issue is most likely with her glasses. It's possible that she just hasn't adjusted to them. Or there's an issue with the prescription itself, or with the lenses (example: the focal point is incorrect.)

Have her wear them around the house to try to adjust to them. (I'd be reluctant to let her go outside in them, for safety reasons.) If she still has difficulty, talk to the optician who made them. If the optician feels that they're made correctly, then go to the optometrist who issued the prescription.

I guess I'm not understanding what she is seeing.
Does she have bifocals?
Getting use to the line in the lens can take a little doing.

I wear glasses all the time. Recently I got a new pair. The prescription wasn't very different at all (my old frames were getting kind of wobbly). When I received the call that my new glasses were ready, I went to the store to get them.

Put them on, and wow, I thought I was drunk. Double vision, distorted vision .. it was awful.

The rep took them back into the lab and sure enough, they had been measured wrong. The prescription was correct, but somehow the point where they measure your pupils and make that the central part of the lens had been made wrong.

I had to wait a day or two, but when I went back, it was a night-and-day difference. I still noticed a slight distortion but the rep made a tiny adjustment to the piece that goes on my nose, and voila, perfect vision.

So I suggest you take the glasses back and have the optometrist double check them. Probably the prescription is correct, but there are so many things they can check (where her pupils are, how she's wearing the glasses, etc). She needs to show the optometrist how she wears them because some people wear their glasses too high or too low and that affects how the lens has been made, and that can make the vision distorted.

I'm not sure what you mean about seeing "steps" - does the ground look uneven as if there are steps? Does she have trouble negotiating the distances when she's on a staircase? Please elaborate. But yes, as JC says, talk to the doctor who gave her the prescription or the optician who made the glasses, or both.

Does it have to do with the frame of the glasses? Maybe get her a bigger frame size so there is no line at the bottom of her vision.

Eyestrain can cause a headache. If this was the first day with the new glasses and she had a headache and is complaining of seeing 'steps' then I suggest another eye exam and different glasses. Maybe even a second opinion if the Dr finds the same results as last time.
