Sounds like a virus. Both my kids had it with fevers last month. Lasted in the children for 6 days. lot's of liquids. The children did get better. Good Luck

You don't say how old she is or where you are- but it sounds a LOT like the same virus that is going around my son's elementary school right now! Lots of kids in our school district have had this- if your child is in school, she probably picked it up there.

My son got sick last Sunday- had a fever of 104 and even after tyanol and motrin it was still high so he went to the doctor on Monday. His best friend was out the same week with the same 'roaming' fever.

He was tested for both Strep and H1N1- but did not have either. Please do not panic and think every childhood illness is swine flu! If your doctor has seen her, he would test her if he thought it was.

If she has no swollen glands or sore throat it most likely isn't strep and if it was H1N1, she would most likely also have a dry hacking cough, bad sore throat and possibly an upset stomach.

Doctor told us my son just had a virus, nothing we could do except make him comfortable and wait it out.

He was sick about 5 days, no stomach upset at all, just a fever that would drop a few degrees for a while, then creep back up in the afternoon. He hovered around 99-100 degrees most of the week.

Remmeber, fever is your body trying to FIGHT OFF infection- as long as it is below 102 or so, your child's body is just trying to do its job and get rid of those germs! I know how scary it is and how bad you feel when you can't do more to help!!

With my son we alternated Motrin and Tylanol and just made sure he got plenty of fluids and lots and lots of sleep. He is COMPLETELY FINE now- but it was a long week!

If you've already taken her to the doctor, just keep a close eye on her and I'm sure she'll fight it off! When kids are around other kids, they get EVERYTHING- don't let other people panic you. Hang in there!

It sounds a little like H1N1 (but not exactly). Both my boys (2 and 4 years) and my husband and I had H1N1 a few weeks ago. The kids basically had a fever off and on and had runny noses and a cough. Sometimes they were full of energy and seemed perfectly fine, but then they woudl get the fever again. We took them to the CVS Minute Clinic and they did a swab of one of my son's noses and said that he had Type A flu. They said because (a) he had already had a flu shot for the regular flu virus and (b) the regular flu virus isn't going around these days, that they were 99% sure it was H1N1. So you may want to get a swab. However, it only lasted for about a week, so it sounds like you are almost done anyway. But do watch out for things like green buggers and a cough that is getting worse not better, because most of the bad cases of H1N1 are with people who look like they are getting better, but then take a turn for the worse at the end of the sickness. I'm not saying this is what your kids have, but you may wnat to go get a nose swab done (it is easy and you get results in 10 minutes). Since H1N1 is so common now (Ive heard over 1 in 5 kids have already had it), it is certianly possible that is what it is. Good luck.

You may want to see if her six year molar is coming in.
Keep her vitamins up, it sounds as if she's perfectly fine

Its a virus, let it run its course. This fever/rash virus is very common in young kids. No treatment for it. As long as she is still taking in fluids and voiding she will be fine. PROMISE!!!!!!!!

I just went thru a similar situation with my daughter. Are her glands in her neck swollen? My daughter's didn't become swollen until we were going thru this for about 2 weeks, so I finally had the doctor agree to see her. She has MONO and Strep throat... I would say if it doesn't clear up in a few days, I would tell your doctor that you would like to have her checked out. Even if it's to ease your mind, they should still agree to see her. And even if it is just a virus, sometimes it helps to have them looked at to be sure.

My grandson 1 1/2 had the same thing They told my daughter it was a rash too. It will run its course. Even go away and a month later come back. There is nothig they will do. But she will be okay.

A virus like this IS going around. The fever tends to stay low-grade for up to 7 days. It is usually accompanied by a cough or other respiratory symptoms. THe fever does tend to go up and down. (mom to two girls in school, that have both had this within the past week; lots of the neighborhood kids have had it; and I have seen it all over my daycare.) Remember, if you give tylenol and motrin before the fever gets too high, the body can't do it's own natural work. Let it get to about 102, and then give meds if you need to. Just keep an eye on the respiratory stuff. That's the dangerous and tricky part this time of year.

I am having similar troubles. For the past several days my daughter has had a fever that stays right around 100.6 regardless of Tylenol or Motrin.

The doctor said that it's really no big deal she is probably just teething again and getting molars. I felt (and looked) inside her mouth and do not see any indication that she is getting more teeth. I am also not sure what to do as the doctor has stated several times over the past few days that all she needs is rest and TLC.

She is sleeping upwards of 12 hours at a stretch, waking for a couple hours and playing hard (really fast and furious), and then conking out again. She and I have already had H1N1 so I am sure that it is not a recurrence, but am truly bothered by the ongoing fever.

If anybody knows of any kind of virus that is going around- I too would love to know what it might be.

could be teething the 12month molars or a virus and your doctor is right just let it run its course but make the doctor aware with any new changes

I agree with the other three responses. My son was very sick and his body felt like it was on fire!! I took him to urgent care b/c we were out of town and then I took him to our regular doctor and it was a virus. It did run it's course but it really sucks to see them looking so terrible. Just monitor your daughter, give her fluids and let her rest.

To me this sounds just like H1N1. Just make sure you watch your daughter very well. Even if it seems like she is getting better don't think it's ok. This is what's happening to children that are dieing. The parents think that the child is better the all of a sudden they get sick with an infection. I have talked to several doctor and they have all said this to me. I have 2 boys that had the same extact thing your daughter does. Both were put on antibiotics. GO to a different doctors office. No ONE should have a fever more than 2 days (even if it's on and off)!!!

My Daughter who is 5 years old had a fever on and off of 101 - 104 for 10 days, we went back & forth to the Dr. 4 times to check ears, throat, flu etc nothing showed up untill the 10th day finally ear infections in both ears. she never felt sick, other than awfully high fevers.

Well "the doctor is always right"....not really. Sometimes yes, you need to let a virus run its course, but at others a doctor needs to take a deeper look. If it is just one doctor that you are seeing, try another, maybe they will give you a different result. If not, just try keeping her cool. Give her ice pops (home made are always best, since you control what goes in those puppies, like lemonade, fruit punch, ice tea, even just regular ice.), try giving her a warm bath, or even a cool one. I'm not sure what else to say though. I am sorry if I am not of much help.
